I\‘d rather see people place enemies by their abilities rather than looks.

To an extent, but the fact is that you can divide enemies into such categories as land/air or natural/supernatural/artificial, and it really does make more sense to have enemies who look like they belong in the level. Enemies like Demon, Rapier, Monkey, Witch and Sparks in particular demand some hefty explanation for being used in certain tilesets, and sometimes it\‘s easier to just use what\‘s appropriate than your absolute favorite behavior.
