I’ve run out of flashy introductions so I’ll just get straight to the point.
Download this. Maybe.
Er…ok, if you want it more detailed, read on.
Temple of Doom had very high expectations of me (NO WAY! -Moonblaze) and it looks like it fulfils those expectations. Almost.
But since I never like to bring bad news first, I’ll write the many good things about Blaze’s lvl. The lvl has got plenty of cool lighting effects, especially the one at the top-right corner but I’ve seen it used many times before so it ain’t exactly original. Very neat though. Ammo placement is also good and they’re sensibly placed around the lvl although they are a bit too scattered and there are way too little of them. The usage of Agama’s tileset Heaven is fabulous. There are no tile bugs at all and everything looks great even though the lvl doesn’t even get close to a temple since Blaze hasn’t used any of those white stone tiles. The positioning of both bases aren’t exactly the best I’ve ever seen but it’s all right, I suppose. However, it’s too easy to defend the bases and that’s what I don’t like cause I hate ppl camping at their bases.
Now, for the bad news. prepares to eat Blaze in case he gets angry The gameplay. I don’t like it. Ok, so the lvl has some well placed springs and platforms but green leafes doesn’t make summer and well placed springs don’t make a good lvl. Temple of Doom has got some VERY annoying things in it. Take those V-poles at the right hand side of the lvl for example. They slow you down, makes you vulnerable for attack plus they prevent you from shooting. Two poles would’ve solved the problem but FOUR?! It takes about 4 seconds to spin through all the poles and when you land and hit one of the two red springs, you get bounced back up again wasting another valuable 4 seconds. Another bad thing is that you often don’t have a clue of what’s solid or not because of all the lighting effects. You see a statue and you think you can go through it but you can’t and after running around for a couple seconds you suddenly discovered that there’s a part of a solid wall that you can walk through. However, the worst thing about Temple of Doom is yet to come. Yes. YES. THE MIGHTY WRATH OF THE FEARED FLAG BUG!! Ahem. Yes, this lvl does suffer from the flag bug. Temple of Doom has got absolutely no masking on top of it and on the left hand side of it which is annoying since there’s almost nothing you can do to avoid touching the unmasked corners. Bad. Bad. Bad.
Temple of Doom is a mixture of good and bad but to soften my blow, let’s just see it as a struggle between good and evil. Blue stands for everything good in this lvl and red for everything bad.
GO BLUE!!!!!!!! W0000PEE!!!!!!
Anyway, Temple of Doom is a fairly good lvl by Moonblaze. It suffers from the flagbug and bad gameplay but it’s still quite fun to play in (especially since there’s only a powerup for seekers in this lvl – no RFs…HAHA!)
If you like a interesting CTF lvl and wants to develop a hate-love relationship with Jazz2, this is the lvl for YOU. A 7.5.
Cheers,
White Rabbit.
