Ah, very interesting.
I never played Duke Nukem 2 so I cannot say whether or not I spot any missing/inaccurate tiles. So, I will just explain what the set looks like.
This is a very dark, almost entirely monochrome, set. There is not a whole lot in the area of eyecandy, but the example level proves you can make a fairly decent level with this set, though it won’t blow you away. The grow is black with some metallic grey siding that fades into blackness. There are various green sewer-like contraptions, including some dripping sewage that can hurt you as demonstrated in the level. There are a number of animations, including a lot of computer-like ones. My only complaint about those is that each set appears many times in its entirety when only half of it involves the animation at all. There are various treasue chests, electric bolts, odd contraptions, blood stains, pipes, jail bars, cameras, etc.
In the example level (which was nothing amazing like he said, but hey, it’s an example level, who cares), Lark shows the tilesets capabilities, which basically summed up are described as “dark and monotonous”.
The 50% version is certainly more ‘crisp’, but the contrast between the white and black on many of the tiles being so close together is rather annoying to look out. The game was designed to be seen 2×2 pixels anyway. I won’t take off points for that.
All in all, this tileset isn’t that pleasing to the eye, but it has enough in it to make a fairly interesting, if not monotonous, level. I give Lark a 7.2 for this work. Good job all around.

heh, another conversion by lark.
lets review.
ok. firstly, i like this conversion alot. it looks kinda boring though because there’s no much different colors. or something like that ;P
Well.. i think there’s enough tiles to create cool and fun level with this tileset. 50% version is good though, i think it would fit bit more to jazz style but then again its just my opinion. yeah, like you said the example level was bad, but its an example level, so i wont lower my rating because of that. i like the masking here too, and there’s enough animations. ok that was enough ;P
im gonna rate this as 7.5 for the reasons i’ve mentioned. :)
I need to review more. Whatever. Anyways, I played duke nukem 2 a lot of times when I was a kid (though only shareware) and I am glad you decided to convert it (even though it might’ve been partially because I was bugging you to). Most things from the jail are here, except the pipe tiles (around 4, 43 in JCS) are done poorly. They should either have been redone with a brick backround that actually blends in with the rest, or redone simply without the brick backround (the 2nd is easier). I like how you made the destruct blocks and poles blend in with the tileset, although I think this might’ve needed some hurt events, sucker tubes etc. Sad that you could only do the jail scenario from DN2, although the whole thing definately would’nt have fit (might even not have fit for TSF as well). Invisible tiles are there. yay. So are a bunch of stuff. Final verdict: Good conversions, needs a fex minor fix0ring in some places, and don’t hesitate to add more tiles if you ever decide to work on this more. I’ll try to finish the Duke nukem 2 example level for this someday, but it might only be playable in Coop online (A lot of my SP levels are ruined/hindered by the fact that coins turn to gems after you enter a coinwarp in singleplayer).
Rating time =D:
Conversion Completeness (considering the fact this is only suppose to be a conversion of the tileset for the first level in EP1 in DN2): 9
Tiles Added: 7.3
Animations: (No new ones, and the acid drop thing should’ve been better done. It looks very choppy and doesn’t tile good with the sewage thing. Which makes it look out of place and mostly unusable. Bah): 7 (I was nice ;o)
Color/Palette/Stuff: 8.5
Userfriendliness: 8.7
Overall (not an average): 8.4 (<3 DN2)
Final Rating Comes down to: 8.15 = 8.2. Solid good conversion, but you might’ve slacked off a bit in fix0ring it up/adding more tiles. You have rux conversion skills, but need to stop rushing things so they get released earlier. The half scale version of the set is also nicely done, but it reminds me of sets like Lost Viking by Jaws, and it makes jazz look a bit to big so I doubt most people would use it. Anyways, <3 at DN2 and thanks for succumbing to my endless requests for you converting this. I should’ve rated this sooner ;| and download reccomendation. <DukeNukem23333333333333333
A very good and accurate tileset from Duke Nukem 2. I am going to have to bug you on telling you to do more of DN2. This is absoluty good!
Too bad JJ2 does not use ladder features, otherwise, that would be cool with this tileset.
in the registered version, there is a brig level in each episode. most of them have other features. the shareware episode level is the only level to use the jail background.
A very good download to make a level out of.
Wow. DN2 was one of my favorite games. I actually might make a lvl with this since I know the DN2 design style so well. (Or maybe convert the other DN2 tiles) BTW: Puffie, theres no Prison in E3.
The Tileset:
Nice. I would like to see the camera looking up tiles. and the turret looking back and forward. Also, theres anothe type of “orange thing”
9.5 EDIT: I gotta give it a 9. ALL the shaft tiles are missing.
The 50% Set:
Ick. Not useful for anyrhing. lot of stuff to small to use. Lots missing too. This would really hurt the rating. Id say 5 but im not adding that in.
The ex lvl:
Nice. Shows off some features with the cameras and stuff. I dont think im allowed to base rating on this though. 9.5
Music:
Maybe its just my laptop, but its quite choppy and skips a few notes. Id say 9 because its better than a converted IMF/MIDI and ive seen a custom made PERFECT midi of this.
Overall: Well, theres only one thing that counts, the main set, 9.5 EDIT: Changed to 9
Download highly recommended especially for a DN fan.

R3ptile, you can see the background I used in the example level several times. In the level there are occasional “splits” in the bricks where you can see layer 8 through them. Also, putting the black tiles in layer 8 would make it so they were all unmasked, and would possibly mess up the level. Feel free to look at my level in JCS if you need help; there’s no password.
