Not all of the levels created with JCS, or even created for JJ2, were released. These three levels, two of which are ordinary single player and one of which seems to be an early concept level for Battery Check from January 1998, were included with the press review (BETA 2) version of JJ2 but not with the actual game. Using a little logic and hex editing, I have updated these three levels to a format which 1.23 can read. Enjoy.
(A fourth level, Rux0rific, was also included, but I didn’t convert that because it’s already on J2O.)
UPDATE 2011: With the help of Jerrythabest and zapS, I have decoded enough of the .LEV file format used in JJ2 version 1.00g/h that I was able to convert the levels Battle4 and Race4 from that version as well. They are now included.
I’d say this further shows that your first level in JCS will turn out horrible.
Actually Battery Jazz seems more like the first level of battery Check converted to a Jazz playable format, since many areas seem ripped straight out of Battery Check’s first level.
@Violet: True, but what I meant was the level was remade so Jazz/Spaz could play it and not have to fight 1up barrels or other odd occurences.
Battle 4 is perhaps the worst battle level ever made, anyway.
Ah, but Race4… Race4 was pretty fun, just needed a few bugs worked out so Spaz wouldn’t have such a major advantage.
n00b: Interesting. And it really wouldn’t be “converted to a Jazz playable format”, as Battery Check and BETA 2 use the same format, right?
Cooba: …yes, it’s possible, but only if you understand the file formats for both .lev and .j2l, okay?
Just a little comment on Violet’s description.
“Two other levels, battle4 and race4, are only available in .lev form, which is very different form of encryption and much harder to convert, if not impossible.”
It must be possible. I don’t think that Cliffy would have time and will to 99% accurately remake all the levels in JCS.
