When I was planning the fourth level of the “air survivor” series, I figured it would be cool to have a level with a lot of “freeze enemies” events. These events would fit well in a icey level with a frozen over tileset. I could have just used Winter, Køøl or Santa’s Snowy Zone, but this time I wanted something new. So I created this conversion of the classic default Castle tileset. I gave all the tiles a new blue or purple/pink shade, to make them look frozen over. Since I wanted a part of the level to take place outside, I added a textured background, an edited version of one of the textured backgrounds ET made for me while I was looking for a nice one to use in the tileset “Amazonian Highway”. I also added some standard (but re-colorized) suckertubes, because these would obviously come in handy in the level I created this set for (Frozen Castle, an air survivor level). Even though it’s just a rip/conversion, I can’t say I’m dissatisfied with the result.
I included two example levels in the zip, one Survivor and one LMS.
I will rate by 7,5 … 7 becaose only colorization and 0.5 becaose there is new backround.
Although it was just a re-colorization, it was pretty damned well-done for that matter. The levels having too many errors to allow me to navigate at all, I was free to use the nowalls cheat to look over the whole thing.
When reading the author’s comments, I wasn’t entirely sure what I was getting myself into, but it turned out nicely. The tubes (tubes!!) were coloured like popsicles, but the kind of popsicles that blend in well with the environment. Though they’re sorta out of place for a remake of the Castle tileset, they still could be shoed in there to some effect.
I wasn’t expecting much out of it, but it turns out it’s a pretty nice-looking tileset. Be a good boy and download it.
As a side note, having a freeze effect every 10 steps isn’t what I’d usually call “fun”… but that’s just me.
