Allright since I made the example levels I will base my rating solely on the tilesets and the readme file included.

The tilesets look good, easy to use, good eyecandy, good masking…

    Mirrow outdid himself once again.

    A Download recommendation from me…

Wow! This german-dutch co-production really kicks ass! By the way, let me mention this right at the beginning…“Mirrows Tileset Pack” is a very good example of how a tileset and a level designer can work together.

However, back to the topic: the pack consists of three brand new tileset by mirrow: “Jungle-Danger” (240 tiles), “new city” (about 480 tiles, there seem to be two versions included for some reason) and “smallcastle” (480 tiles). All three look very good but of course, i do have a favourite: the blue-brown look and oil-painting like background graphics of “smallcastle” impressed me, somehow. Basic structures like walls, spikes, vines, signs and the like can be found in all three tilesets. Not to forget all the animations, background objects etc.. Its just too much to describe it here.

Furthermore, each tileset has an example level made by our dutch friend BlackDeath aka Fear. It’s single player levels and they are jampacked with trigger crates, little puzzles, good looking eyecandy. Of course, it’s still “example levels” instead of real, long single player maps. The MCE’s in the “Small Castle” level were quite annoying for example.
The two background music tunes chosen by BlackDeath, “The Digital Dawn” by Sorath and “Dead lock” by Elwood are of outstanding tracked quality and fit good for those levels.

All in all, i can’t say much except THiS iS A MUST HAVE for every J2 fan. I really hope to see some nice levels using one of those tilesets in the future :-)

    P.S.:
I admit, i am already biased ‘cause i kinda know my fellow german jazzer mirrow for some time but BlackDeath, i don’t know if it’s idea if you rate this pack, too :-)

    The goody-goody part:

I defnitley am impressed with these tilesets. Nice textures, given a 3D look by impressive shading. There are lots of features and different areas to the tilesets too. Also some nice layered features on the background makes it look extra nice :)

    The icky-wicky part:

Some graphics are taken from somewhere else, and it is very obvious. Anti-aliasing on that dodge made it look extremely bad. The least you could do was fix that. I know to do so is oen of the most painful experiences on planet earth. I know ALL about fixing the censored anti-aliasing (ask stripe about that). The textured background doesn’t work (I assume that because it wasn’t textured in the example levels), but in some sets nice layering can hide that.

    Some personal comments:

The fact that some of you wanted to rate the example levels as part of the pack DISGUSTED me! I actually found it offensive. This has been uploaded as a TILESET and example levels shouldn’t change the rating at all. The only way it would change the rating is if there was no example level included. Seriously, there might be some people who are very talented at drawing tilesets and less talented at making levels, and that doesn’t make them deserve a low rating for spending so much time drawing something!

Please, if you are a tileset maker that can’t make the best of levels, do NOT hesitate to ask me to make one for you. I would be more than glad to help out. No credit even needs to go to me, it still would be your tileset.

Hmmm, maybe I went a little harsh on my comments, but I think you get the general idea.

    Great!

The Jungle set consists of a fine array of tiles.

The Castle set is my favourite. It contains everything you need for a blue castle.

Though I am a sucker for city tilesets, I think in this last tileset the author could have used a little less plagiarsim.

Mirrow’s tileset package is actually pretty good. Mirrow has spent lots of time with the pack, it can be seen easily. But, copying graphics is never good. The city tileset’s background was taken from Mez’s set. But it is understandable. Sets are hard to make (good ones especially). The music is good. They fit in the levels just fine.

Ok, here we have three excellent tilesets by mirrow. The town tileset is my favourite and all the tilesets include good animations and eyecandy. Download this.

What they said, by… No, but seriously. Mirrow’s tileset pack is a very decent pack, contianing 3 high quality tilesets. The city tileset looked very cool. The bricks looked good, the whole thing is easy to use. It has a good layer 8 background, wich doesn;nt work to well textured. It has some diging machines, with those you can sorta make a construction site outside the city, where a new road is being made or something. The diging machines seem to be photos from real life, just like that red, nice looking car. Thety work good in the set, only they have some white pixels around them, wich looks sorta ugly. The thing i realy love in the city set, are those cute litle birds flying across the screen, they ook realy cool;). The jungle-danger or whatever set looks neat too. I remember seeing this one a long time ago, i like it. It has basic tree structures,n and good, forest-like ground. A major part in this set it the white-blueish ground, i dont know exactly what it resembles. Oh, and a note to disguise: The textured background here worked perfectly fine. The castle set may sorta be my least favorite. The layer 8 background loks pretty good, very good even, but it just does’nt fit in with the rest of the set. A textured sky would have probably looked much nicer. A good idea i saw here where those rotorblades(thats the name right?;). They make the whole thing look a litle more like a abandoned sawmill actuely, wich would have been a pretty sweet theme for the set. The blue bricks where well drawn, but they did’nt have slopes, wich is bad. I want slopes in every sort of surface tiles, to be able to improve gameplay. The example levels by our o’ll friend Fear aka Blackdeath on J2O where pretty good. I must admit i did’nt finish them, i just looked at them for fun. Actuely seeing the sets was enough for me. A high (or low?) 8. points. Tileset fans, get these.

Ok now, i feel in a good mood, and ready to make a long review. Here goes:
Danger jungle: The backround is strange, some very nice animations. Also, the tileset has a more mechanical theme (the metal ground, etc) than a junlge theme (in my opinion). Some logs for bridge like things. Has some brown ground tiles with holes in them that i didnt like, and some averagely done braches. The golden trees look weird, not to real etc. The tileset has the needed tiles required (sucker tubes, arrows, spikes and stuff), and its nice to have a 2 themed tileset, it can make level more interesting. The texture and tiles could use a touch of work (if you compare this to one of disguise’s sets, youll see a large difference of how the tiles are drawn), but i tend to notice that mirrow usually draws tiles like this, and they’re ok. Some strange looking leaves, but im glad those were included. There are strange vine-resembling things, and cool belts. I didnt like the example level very much, to much enemies that came out of knowhere or were badly placed, but im not supppose to rate xample levels. The mask of the set could of been better.
New city: The first thing that i liked here was the 3d looking ground. I think that little carpenter guy was ripped though, but imnot sure. The raven’s look funny, flapping those little wings. The backround is ok, dont know why it wasnt made to warp in the xample level. I think that the layer 6/7 backround could of been ripped (not ALL of it) as well, but like i said, im not sure. Some cool animations, like that cement pouring down, and loads of different types of tiles to use. The houses remind me of the ones in rising sun for some reason, but look different. lots of bricks, and cool sports car.
Some little trees, and the reguired tiles. Orange boxes? (seems like the author of these sets prefers orange more than brown) Loads of strange and diffent tiles to use (bricks, orange stuff, glass, cement etc) and this could make a very fun llevel. I like this set better than the last, but the masking still needs a bit of imprevoment. (like in the glass place in h\the xample, ishot the silver coin at the wall, AND instead of it staying there, it slowly started falling, like falling down steps, but the masking is ok)
Smallcastle: Lots of animating tiles like falling rocks and those saws and everything, interesting backround eyecadny. Blue bricks look ok, ropes are included. Ripped fire (why is fire almost always ripped?) Some what i think are towertops are included. Anyways, i didnt stumble into masking problems, but i still like this set the least. Its more one themed than the others, which have many themes. Also, like all of the sets in this pack, it has the required tiles. I despised the MCE’s in the xample levels though, those stupid jazz2 logos…

OVERALL: Some cartoonish drawn sets. Not as good of quality as some tileset makers like skulg, ET, disguise or agama, but still fun to use interesting sets worth the download. My rating was a 7.7, it just didnt quite make it towards that 8..

    A little note to Aiko:

I based my prevous rating on the tilesets mirrow had built and how easy they were in usage.

In the level I made for smallcastle, with me out of the gun boxes came lizards (1 per box) as a little surprise for the unwary, but that seems to be not-working on other systems. Perhaps its because i use an edited INI file with my jcs.
