Has a nice cartoony feel to it that fits well for Jazz. Too lazy to say much more. Definitely worth a download; from one of the best custom tileset makers around. :)
This is a lot more colourful than my previous tileset (Metal Mania), which is good, but it also has a bad point. Decreasing all the colors to fit into a palette was a REAL pain. If it wasn’t for Palette Suite I would’ve pulled all my hair out and thrown the computer through the window. After doing that I came across something new. This is the first time I managed to fill a palette and JCS tells me to reduce the colours. I guess you can’t have a full palette afterall, so Palette Suite came in handy once again.
I’ve used an ‘Outer Space’ theme with this set, which is something new for me. It managed to come out very nicely, and to be honest I am very proud of it, one of the few tilesets I’ve made that I am actually happy with the end result. Unfortunately there are no animated tiles, but that is because the tileset is at its maximum size (1020 tiles). I could’ve made some if it was a TSF set, but I’d rather leave it out than make the tileset only available to people who have TSF, and I’m sure most of you will agree with me. There are 4 animated tiles left for some destructable scenery (unless you use TSF).
Some tiles are taken from JJ2 (destructable scenery and some boards, and the poles). There are tons of different tiles of these types in tilesets, and they mostly look different. I thought it would be easier if I just use the ones Epic used. This is a little experiment to see if you prefer it or not. There is also a destructable block for each section of the tileset. Please tell me what you think about this, if you don’t like it I will draw it myself in the next tileset.
The programs listed are in order from the one used the most, to the least. As you can see Paint Shop Pro did most of the work, and Photoshop barely anyhting. This just proves the fact that Paint Shop Pro is capable of making great tilesets (beware Photoshop junkies!).
Three example levels show different ways of using the tileset, and the fourth is to make people like Aiko happy that seem to like my plain (a better word is ‘traditional’) design. Because the example levels are three different types (CTF, Battle, and Treasure) the ‘next level’ field will not take you to the next level, you must open them seperately in JCS. I’ve also added the palette so that people who want to can learn from it (or look at the mess for fun). If you look close enough at the tileset, you’ll find the name of a person who helped me a LOT during the production, thanks a bunch!
There, I think that covered it. Oh, wait, how could I forget. I also added a music file I downloaded. It was the first one I randomly chose out of a list of 25, and when I listened to it…Well, how can you explain. When the song started it felt like I was walking on clouds and a light from the sky was shining brightly on it. It was perfect :)

WHOAH you’ve done a censored good job.
Great tileset
the colors fit perfectly in the jazz2 game
The example levels are good to
Man I’m definitly gonna make a lvl for my upcoming single-player lvl pack with this tileset.
keep up the good job J2LC-er![This review has been edited by F!re]
O my…If Aiko sees this set, he’s likely to eat it! :)
And Shadow, you’re not the only one with that idea ;P
Ladies and gerbils (no wait, that’s not right) Disguise made the PERFECT tileset. This tileset is just TOO good. It has lots of variety in landscape tiles:
- a rocky surface
- The moon
- a green I-don’t-know-how-to-call-it.
- A space ship
Further more: tubes, mountain background, groovy skies. The only bad thing is: NO animating tiles, the set is 1020 tiles (!) big. Now if you had TSF…and why am i telling all this? I order you to download this right away! Then check it out for yourself. :)
- JelZe GoldRabbit
P.S. I wanted to be like Aiko with this review. Didn’t work. Now i have to copy it to TSF in case Aiko will host it :P
What JelZe said. Thats about it. Bye…
No, seriously, let me give a short review on this fresh, awesome space tileset by our tileset (and level!) legend Disguise. It has the unbelievable amount of 1020(!) tiles and nearly all of them are incredibly good-looking and useful. While looking at it, i actually have the feeling its a compilation of four or five different tilesets because Disguise created some seperate landscapes that wouldn’t fit together in one level. When im scrolling down in my upper left JCS window, i can see a “CyberSpaz Tileset v2“like part, then again comes a part that looks like it was MEZ05…its just a great, wild mixture. Of course, everything is still space related, somehow…:) There are also some very interesting background structures that look kinda “3d rendered” or something like that.
Well, what else to say…“Spacey Universe” includes everything important…all kinds of shapes and landscape design. A small disappointment are the around 15 tiles ripped from original Epic sets (including important stuff like signs and poles!). It would have been much cooler if you had own drawings for those events.
Some of the writings that can be found on certain tiles look a bit silly (“Blue Rocks”, “We hate RED” etc.)too…but that isn’t a real problem :-)
Apart from the tileset itself, Disguise included four nice example levels in his ZiP archive: two battles, one CTF map and a treasure hunt level with an annoying exit event :) The levels could have been a tad better, but they still would get a rating around 8 i guess. Oh, one word about the music: i don’t like it AT ALL. Over TWO MB, six and a half minutes playing time and 30 instruments for nothing, i’d say. Not my style, sorry. And for that matter (Criticism! Harhar! :)…you can take it as a nice little provocation Disguise, i still like some of DethMan’s tilesets a tad better (mainly “7th Lava Fall”). Therefore, i’m very bold and rate it 8.5 (i was undecided between 8.5 and 9). Of course, i could think about it and re-rate it anytime :-)
Anyways, there can be no doubt that “Spacey Universe” is one of the best homecooked tilesets ever. It’s a MUST DOWNLOAD for all you freaks!
P.S.:
You got an extra point for the best author’s description (see above) so far :-)
P.P.S.:
TSF rules.[This review has been edited by Aiko]
WoW
Cool ;-)
Very good tileset. It got everything the ueser needs and is very userfriendly. However there isn’t much to put on other layers.
Almost a 9. U must have this one in yer tileset list.
At long last my internet is back, you will prolly hear or see me say it more often and at more places, since I have been away for a week, but as for the download here.
This is indeed (as the other reviewers say) quite good looking with sufficient tiles and easy enough to use. The theme has been used a few times, but this one is different enough to be useful.
Hmm the description added here is a bit long, I dont know if its in the readme, but I recommend putting it in there, because if you add such a long description here, people might not feel like reading it (I didnt :)).
I forgot to mention that I like the music very much too.[This review has been edited by BlackDeath]
It is easy to see that this pack is a first-class release. Only master called Disguise can make packs like this.
The possibilies of the tileset are uncountable. You can see it easily by trying the four example levels. The warp-background is made with time, and it fits well. The tileset’s so large that you could use it for dozens of levels.
The music is brilliant, and not too big in MBs. It’s irritating to download a 5 meg pack what includes a huge music file and only few levels. I think that people should learn to use mod2j2b.exe. It could save lots of space.[This review has been edited by Blade]
Whoooooooooooooooooooooooooooow! Clap your hands all for Wisey!
This tileset definetly rox. It has all the needs for great tiles, except animated tiles, but I’ll speak about that alter. The tileset has 4 great parts, so it’s like a 4-in-1 “pack”. It has professional-lookin’ tiles and enough eyecandy stuff. Masking is superb.
Okay, the “animated-tiles-talk-from-ME”
(including 2, brand-new texts! WoW!)
The tiles “WE LOVE BLUE” or something are not usefull or something. They could be deledted, and some animated tiles could be placed there.
Ow, I’m so dumb. I’ll shut up and give my rating.
9.2. Enjoy and use it in a great way like eating it at your birthday’s dinner.
Me is to lazy to write a nig review here. Nice job wisey.
~>CelL<
I forgot what the word ‘better’ means, no-one tell me what it means!
Wisey, I love the 1st and 2nd level and the set faints your best I lvoe it!
The music rocks too!
Definatly download this!
This Tileset RockzZzZz!!!
It is Awesome…but there are better Tilesets.;)
wwwwwoooooowwwwwwwww
This is a huge improvement from your first tileset, Ultimate World :). I’m glad to see that you still kept the ‘wide range of different tiles’ stype in this tileset. I can’t beleave you reduced that to 161 colours, I’m amazed, I wouldn’t mind using that palette program to fix up ETs Planet3, I’ve managed to somehow use up 1029 colours when all I have done is the submarine, which is blue…. we all live in a blllllue submarine :) Anyway I’m glad to see a wellmade quallity tileset. I luv the way you’ve made the whole tileset have extra red and blue tiles, it makes it good for making CTF levels and shows you where the base is. Well, I can’t really think of much more to say…….oh, also, did you use a plug in called Blade pro for some of the tiles?
Very Good! I will be useing this tileset with a level that I make for sure! It’s so sweet.. And with all the GpW stuff all over the place it just adds to the coolness which is the tilset. Excellent with the example levels too. Download this!
Now that I think about it, this tileset was the first thing that made me want to join GpW:To learn how to make good levels and maybe good tilesets. But I’m glad I didn’t. All that was holding me back from making decent levels was the fact that I didn’t know what all the events did and there were too many different floor tiles and such. Still, this tileset is beautiful. The music’s cool too, and you give a level for all three online multiplayer modes. I just have to give it a 10.
One from best tileset. Why?
This is good like tileset.
It is very easy to use. Beginners download this must!!!
Professionals too. Good tileset.
Layer 7 includes, concrete, rocks, space… I say: Download this!!!
Disguise is professional, then… Why you read this?

A great tileset by Disguise. Another one to add to the countless millions. While this isn’t my favorite look for a tileset, it’s done very well. Definitely a download recommendation, and another great tileset from a legendary tileset maker.
Very cool, I dont see any bugs in the mask, and any missing tiles.
Very easy to use, but you can still make very cool levels with it.
I will use it in my big lvl pack[This review has been edited by Snowball]
OMG I LUV THIS TILESET IT ROCKS IT IS VERY WICKED AND I LUV SPACE AND WOW AND OMG AND MORE OMG
I wanted to give this 9.8…………but………sob THERE IS NO 9.8!!!!!!!!!!!! So 9.7 will do
I dun mind that is has no animations because u couldnt fit them in and i am thankful. Then it weould of been TSF…..
Well anyways, this tileset has 4 different settings, and i will rate them seperately now
Green setting:
My second favorite, it looks liek a planet that has been florished by green. There could of been some plants included, but then it would of been TSF liek i said. 10.0
Blue setting
My favorite, it looks like a normal comet/asteroid/moon and i like the decorative craters in the walls. 10.0
Brown Setting: My third favorite, looks like a deserted reocky planet with piles of rock and brown rock only. 9.7
Metal setting (space ship)
This setting, though my least favourite, is still needed. It can be used as a spaceship landng on the planet, a spaceship flying through space, or a passage to sepearate the 3 other areas. 9.6
Overall score 9.800031
Rounded score 9.7
DOWNLOAD THIS CAUSE IT ROX, NOW IM GOING TO MAKE A LEVEL WITH THIS CYAZ ALL
Definately one of the better Disguise tilesets out there. I think you could’ve made the set of (destruct) blocks a bit more original though. The least you could have done is making them in different colors.
Also I think you shouldn’t force people that if they make a level with this tileset, they have to put your name in it (I dunno if that was a joke or not). I like the special blue and red tiles.[This review has been edited by CraccoBoy]
good work!!!!!!
Download recommended!
Well this is another good tileset, but i don’t like it as much as i like some other first page tilesets like: Oddesey, Mega metropolis, Heaven, Swamps of the sleeping jaguar, Egypt, Sirius, JJ1 Turtemple, JJ1 Orbitus, JJ1 Langunicus, JJ1 Megairbase and some others like… I think i should get to the review. Here it is:
Eyecandy Possibilities:
My Rating: 8.0
Comments:
There is not much to put in the tileset as background or foreground, but there are stuff to put. Same with the sprites.
Animations:
My rating: 7.0
Comments:
There isn’t much to put as an animation, apart from scenery blocks.
Masking:
My rating: 10.0
Comments:
The masking is great, no bugs. Easy to use, hardly any confusing things.
Usability:
My rating: 9.0
Comments:
This tileset is not too easy to use, but not too hard either. But in my opinion, it can get BORING to use. I really mean that, sorry, disguise.
Overall:
My Average Rating: 8.5
Build with: If you must.
Download: Big recomendation.
Learn from: YES
The tricky thing here is as far as the art style Disguise likes to use is concerned, it puts him right in the middle of the scale.
On one side, the super-high-quality Desolation, 7th Lava Fall, Sirius etc tilesets made by Agama, BlurredD and the J2O elite. On the other side, the somewhat less capable (no names mentioned). Disguise falls right in the middle.
Thankfully, what Disguise lacks on art style, he more than makes up for on the others (layer management, diversity of tiles and environment). He manages to justify the lack of quality with functionality, which is a good fall-back plan to have.
As a result of that, I give this tileset a 6.2.
Another little thing I want:
Could all the beta testers PLEASE download this tileset again. I’ve made changes since you’ve tested, and not one of you have the latest version. That includes you Bobby, I added something else since you tested the ‘latest’ version. The last thing I want is more than one version of this tileset out there. It was a pain with Blue World having to download it every time there is a different level.
I’m also glad to annouce that I uploaded this level on my 17th Birthday (30 May 2001). This will be the celebration :)
Rock on Jazzers FOREVER!!
Oh, almost forgot, thank you VERY much Frankenquist for finishing the downloads section today :D[This review has been edited by Disguise]
I’ve got an idea. If you want more animating tiles, make this in TSF but keep this version up, then upload the TSF version for TSF players. I don’t have TSF, but I can live without animated tiles.
