Here’s a solid piece of spiffyness for you.

First off, I love the tileset you used. It looks like it was finger-painted, yet with lots of depth, which you took good advantage of.

Layer work is good. Nice background, and I like the foreground eye-candy at the lower levels.

Design is good too. You can run from one flag to the other without jumping, but the rest of the level is easy to get around in should you need to jump out of the fray (the lone full-health carrot at the top of the level makes this important).

Overall, this isn’t the most spectacular level you’ll ever see, but it really doesn’t have any problems that I can find. I didn’t even notice a mismatched tile (though I confess I didn’t go searching for one).

Thusly, being unspectacular yet well-designed and without any noticable flaws, I hereby decree this level the honorable rating of 9. Or thus says my rating system (9 is good and without noticable flaws…above falls into the extra-mile range).

Buster, who’s making you give away such horibly high ratings;)? But now seriously. I did’nt like this level quit that much. It uses Blade’s awesome forest tileset, downloadable right here at J2O. It makes pretty good use of it, i dont have too much complaints about tileset usege here. Design is pretty simple, not bad though. Like Mike himself already said, you can run from one base to the other without having to jump, thats good. Not much obstacles in this level, i like that. This means the level is has good, fluent gameplay. The whole design seemed sort of unorigenal though, the idea of a CTF (or any other gameplay mode for that matter) in a underground tunnel system has been used a few times already, its nothing i have’nt seen before. Weapen placement is good, not too much, not too litle, and well devided over the entire map. Music did’nt totaly fit in this level. I would have prefered Blade’s music choice, MR. Stewe’s “Static Universe” soundtrack, wich totaly fits in with this tileset if you ask me. Oh, and “Cavern CTF” is’nt realy a origenal name right:-\? I would have done somthing like: Grassy Caverns” or some title in that direction, much beter if you ask me;P. Well, after much thought, i have decided to award “Cavern CTF” with these nice litle 7.5 points. You dont ToTaLy NeEd to download this, but i’d still say you should, because its pretty good.

    Nice level here by EvlilMike.
    Great fluent desugn.
    Could be a little bigger.
Could use a tad more weapons.
    Good use of tileset.
That’s all there is to say.

Cool level, thats all I have to say

(ET leaves the room, but is pushed back in by some Agents)

What, am I suppost to say more?

( one of the Agents aims a blaster at ETs head )

Ok, Ok, um, this CTF level takes advantage of the slopes in Blades forest tileset, which I really like, one think I have noticed that people seem to do in level, is have really steap slopes, they are ok in game play, but I find that they don’t look natural, but if there are no other forms of slopes in the tileset, its ok. The level is very easy to move around, but I don’t like the idea of not having to jump at all to get to each of the bases, but its sort of ok in this level, because if you’re low in health, you have to find your way out of the Cavern to the full energy carrot. The level doesn’t take very long to learn, so it’s good on the internet when people are joining the game in the middle of a match, and have to play against people who know where everthing is.

I also love the eye candy at the bottom of the level, where you decorate the ground with platforms and stuff, I use to do that :p, I still have those old 3d looking levels on my old computer, I’ll go in search of them in a minute. Um ( thinks of somthing else to say) Oh, there are also no secrets in the level, or fun dead ends where you can ambush them, and they don’t stand a chance :( Apart from that, and the level being abit too easy to get to base to base, I give this level an 8. Um, I think thats all, oh, one last thing:

When are you gonna release that CTF level you said you made with ETs Planet2, if you have already released it, could you tell me what level id it is so I don’t have to go in search of it through this website, which can take awhile :(

( ET leaves, 1 hour later he returns)

I found the level :D, I’m downloading it now. I thought it might have been Alien Technology, after all, it’s my planet that was used, and I’m as alien as it gets :)

( ET leaves again, but this time forgets to open the door, and runs straight into it, ET with a sore nose, slowly leaves the room )

The idea is pretty original, and the way it’s built is nice, the music choice isn’t great but i wont take down points for that.

Yeah, i also really like the way EvilMike used Blade’s awesome “Forest” tileset. Not much to add to the other reviews here.
The level looks original somehow, has a good design (weapon placement etc.) and the layer work looks really nice i think.
Of course, the map is a tad small and the route from base to base is not really challenging but that doesn’t affect my good overall impression.
The background music tune is nice, but i would recommend the original song used by Blade here (that is part of my crazy “1-tileset-1-music“theory :).

In the end, i am very undecided between 7 and 7.5…but somehow, i like the idea of using this nice set so much that i decided for EvilMike this time (even if he didn’t use a single player start event to make reviewers life easier…accidentelly or intended, who knows :-).

    P.S.:
I usually don’t comment other reviewers, but Buster, you really overrated here :-)

It’s by the way the first time I’ve ever seen somebody other than me using Forest.
EvilMike has done a good level. Good layout, but it has a few tiling bugs. They don’t matter as they’re quite tiny mistakes. Weapon placement turns out pretty good, but there are a bit too much events in some places. The music was good, I will not whine about it.
Btw. EvilMike, once again you haven’t placed the single player start events. (Edit: They’re not necessary). [This review has been edited by Blade]

I’ll do it later, when i know why it
doesnt`s open the lvl.[This review has been edited by Super Saiyan]
