Jazz Jackrabbit 1: Episode... | JelZe | Single player | 7.9 |
**************************** * JJ1: Episode 1 v.1 Readme* **************************** About time i finished this, this has been one of the thorns in my eye (there are many more, in case you were wondering). Then to think this started with a group, it ended up finished by me and Toxic Bunny. Only the two of us! O well, you can't expect miracles to happen, can you? :) Now, about this pack. This isn't what you could call, an original idea (IMHO that is). You could consider this an...experiment. I didn't expect it to be succesfull, but then again, i didnt expect it to fail, either. It did, on several fronts. Firstly, like i said before, we started with a group and ended up with only 2 ppl. Either the rest didn't care, or were too lazy ;) Secondly, i expected myself to be full on that project. You guessed it, at times, i didn't work on it for weeks. What can i say, i got other things that deserve my attention, and i didn't know on which one i should focus myself (don't ask me why). Now for the succeded point. Yes there's only one: finishing this whole thing. Yes, i'm having trouble finishing large "projects", as i call them, so i'm glad this one got finished. I got a lot more projects planned (not only for JJ2) and some of them are already in progress, though i doubt all of them will ever get finished. I don't have exactly high hopes for them... The development didn't exactly go smooth. First of all, the matter with the levels: how do we build them? You could make screenshots and build the level following them, but i didn't like it that way: a bit too complicated for me. Instead, i "traced" the levels on paper. In other words: i played JJ1 (still love that game), and measured the distances between the tiles, and drew it on paper with squares of 5x5 mm. Time robbing but worth it, i even tried with another game: Zool2. Tubelectric and Medivo were easy to do, with the nice smooth square tiles, Diamondus was a lot harder, mainly because it was very open. And building the levels wasn't easy as well, especially Medivo (Complete image make-over, do the math :). I even had to "cheat" with the measurements at times (my dad gave me compliments because of that, thank you Mazzol). All in all, it came out pretty well. Next was the eye candy. Diamondus and Tubelectric were good to do, but Medivo provided yet again a challenge. But IMHO Medivo looks the best. Maybe it's the gargoyles :) You be the jugde. Sheesh, i thought i'd NEVER get this done. O well, better late than never i always say. After the number of setbacks it really deserves to be finished. The latest was a broken motherboard...Couldn't finish the levels because i had no backup on floppy disk or something. Might be a lesson for next time ;) Well, i guess there isn't anything more to tell. Now go play the episode already! Note: this isn't the final version of the episode, i might make updates when i'm in the mood. -JelZe GoldRabbit P.S. I'm still looking for partners to work together with. Nitro isn't that bad, but i'm looking for someone more reliable. If you're interested, contact me: ICQ: 73201429 MSN: jelze_z@hotmail.com
