--------------------- Level: Just Your Typical Level Author: Captain Spam (Nicholas Killewald) Size: 124 x 64 (Layer 4) Average life of a deodorant bar: 3 weeks Level type: Capture the Flag Tileset: Labratory 1 (Official Epic tileset) First hosted: June 12, 1998 My reccomended number of players: 6 --------------------- (Written September 17, 1998) Oh, how I remember my early days of JCSing with this little gem of mine. After a painstaking selection process, I chose the lab's tileset because I liked the music. Ever since then, among all the tilesets I've worked with, the lab has been my favorite. Close second: Diamondus. Originally, there was going to be an upper floor to this whole mess, one made of pipes and such. Problem was, I found there wasn't that much in the range of pipes that could reasonably be used for running and jumping on. So, the upper 15 or so tiles are kinda useless, but it adds that "Open" feel I like in this level. After I first started testing the final version of this level, I noticed that Weapon #9 has some nasty effects with the secret area tucked away there. Namely, you can steal the powerup without getting the coins. It's not much, though. It's only a flamer powerup, not a shield or anything. In one of my later levels, the Non-Union Computer Store, I threw a shield in, but I didn't put any Weapon #9's in. I've been reluctant to use Weapon #9 in any of my levels since this. I quickly learned that if there's more than one target for a warp, it makes a cycling selection whenever you hit one. So, I jammed warps in all willy-nilly and threw targets all over the place. It makes for a neat effect of suspense, as you really can't just easily warp around the place at will. I exploited this fact later in Carrot Shot. This was back in the days when I didn't care about anything other than layers 3-5 and 8. This is noticable by the relatively empty background and foreground. It's a fun level, if you like that sort of thing. It's a bouncy, springy sort of fun. -Captain Spam --------------------- Trivia: There were originally two Jazz -> Spaz converters in this one, near each base. But, my brother PaSTE wanted the idea first, and since I really stole the idea from him, I got rid of 'em. Did you know that this was originally a Battle level? I forgot who, but someone came in and said it was too big to be a battle. I just chucked a couple flags in, and, boom! Instant CTF! The Weapon #9 powerup does nothing in Party Mode. I need to do my laundry. This was a part of the Spamtasia Deluxe CTF pack. --------------------- EOF
