I played this once a long time ago.. good, as I remember.
An actually pretty good level by SPLASH.
Uses a JJ1 set (fixed JJ1 sets are kind of userused IMO.), it had a few problems (ie lack of one ways where they were needed.) but most of it was fine.
The bg music is EXCELLENT but makes the file a little too big to d/l as Aiko said. The layout is good but kind of small and simple. Powerup placement is good.
The eye candy was okay (creative though!) but the 2001 in the foreground is kind of annoying. Good thing you didn’t tile it. :-)
I recommend this. Go download.
Wow! For me, "Agent Jackrabbit" is still one of the Top 50 creations for Jazz2 ever made.
The pack features 18 unique single player levels using six different tilesets and six cool background music tunes.
Like many famous releases, this awesome pack has a storyline that guides the player through the single player levels and makes the whole thing much more enjoyable and original.
The levels themselves are full of new ideas and other cool stuff. Not to mention the great design and eyecandy in all of the maps (this pack really showed what’s possible with MEZ01).
As mentioned in the author’s description, "Agent Jackrabbit" was also one of the first releases (if not the first) that used the cimatic movie effect with the black beam, which creates a much deeper atmosphere.
Furthermore, the author included some very elite modules by famous trackers. They really fit great and support the "Agent" feeling.
Unfortunately, the author didn’t include a readme file that could give some important info on the tilesets and music used (who made them?). Another downfall is that some of the levels are maybe a tad too short in my opinion.
However, here’s my conclusion: no Jazz2 fan should miss this awesome episode by Bartman but start DOWNLOADiNG iMMEDiATELY. It was one of the milestones in J2 level making history (i’m very undecided between 8.5 and 9 here).
P.S.: Attention, evil cheaters! :-)
Its a good tutorial for starting people, but some things that are “forbidden” can make a great effect ingame and the explanation of the tutorial is very basic…
I think that cmdr Dats has a very spoken opinion about levels.
Its good to take a look at it anyway, cause most of the stuff in the tutorial is useful.
EVIL INSANITY :P
BTW d/l works now
I saw it and didn’t like it very much, but considering there are only a few JJ2 skins out there (I have only seen 2 including this one), there wasn’t much to compare this with.
Good design and eye candy, nice ammo placement, nice open area, blah, blah. But the reason this level got a 6, is POOR base placement… The bases are basicly right next to each other. And only one start location (I think).
Anyway, the bases are right next to each other, a 2 second base path from each other. Well, if it’s just one, it can make it near inposable to score.
This download is worth giving you a good example on how to make good design, NOT gameplay.
Not a bad CTF by Disguise. Pretty good base placement, but base paths aren’t good, and as iCeD said, hard to find the right one.
The eye candy isn’t bad, but I strangely fine the design not THAT great. Little above average.
Anyway, worth downloading if you’re a CTF fan.
I usually would only give a very high rating to a level if it were as good as the levels made by ShadowGpw, Martin, Dethman, Bartman, and a few others. After trying it out, I can say, IMHO, it ranks with the single player episodes like Queen of Board by Dethman and Jon Maclelan or Agent Jackrabbit or Rabbits in Time and Space (I was a beta tester). To be fair, I will try to finish it before giving it a rating.
This review is much basically the same as the others.
JazzEd lets you enables you to edit fur colors, name characters and colors, and server characters and colors. So why download this if JJ2 alone can do most of the stuff? Well, you can edit the fur colors ,the player and server names with JJ2 but you only get a limited selection and to expand your selection, what you would normally do is go to regedit and edit the stuff to your liking. Now, this program lets you do all the cool stuff you can do with regedit, without having to run regedit and accidentally mess up the registry. Besides that, all the help you will ever need can be found in the program screen itself, while you are editing, or the text files (English and Dutch) included. All in all, I must say this is a great program.
To Aiko: This level is not too big to download!
Now this level is fun to play, but not as battle. It really is a level just to wish everyone a happy new years and it suits that purpose. I think the tileset should have been a custom one with champaign, but i havent seen any of those…
The JJ3 title music sounds cool, guess theres hope for a jj3 after all!
So if you decide to download this level, then dont use it in battle….
Hehe, this is a pretty original level creation by Splash. Seems like the only purpose of it is to wish everyone a happy new year :-)
However, the design of the map (which uses the Candion tileset from the Jazz1 Holiday Hare) is good and there even is some funky eyecandy (mainly letters saying “2001”). The background music is the very awesome Jazz3 title music by no other than Alexander Brandon. Great choice, but it makes the ZiP file way too big. We will have to find a solution for that problem.
Apart from that, i RECOMMEND DOWNLOADiNG this level, just for the fun of it :-)
Another NICE level using the Psych tileset.
The tileset itself I have never liked, but I (just with any tileset) see remarkable possibilties. This shows a lot of the possibilities. The style of design I like, the layout was cool. It just needed a few additional weapons. The caterpiller could have also been placed better. I like the eye candy, it looks good, could have been improved on Layer 4 though.
Overall DEFINITELY worth your d/l, get to it! :-)
"Pshycedelic" (yes, thats the actual name :-) is definitely one of the best battle levels ever made with the underused Psych tileset. Despite it’s really not my favourite set, i really like this level a lot. The design is very decent (open, many platforms = ZA style™) and so is the layer work. And to get the one carrot you have to pass the smoking guy, which is a good idea.
Overall, i HiGHLY RECOMMEND EVERYONE to DOWNLOAD THiS neat level by Distruct: it’s 100% pure battle fun.
Can’t give it a rating since it is unfinished but I would just like to say that the zip file is only 6 kb, which means it won’t take a lot of webspace and it will most probably get better once Gargoyle finishes it.
There are 10 differently colored backgrounds, each using the same JJ2 menu, in this zip file. Some of it I liked, some of it I didn’t. Download this if you want to see some image manipulation by FireClaw or if you want to make an enhanced JJ2 menu your wallpaper.
I like level creation tutorials. :) Like most I have read, this helped me out a lot. This deserves a look at by everybody, even by experienced level makers, IMHO.
Read the author’s description :-)
According to the time stamps of the files, the author put one hour of effort into this. Unfortunately, it isn’t worth downloading in my opinion, sorry. Pretty boring, somehow.
Mmm, a nice open CTF. This may be “stupid” but I actually like it, the layout/most of the event placement was good. Eye candy was okay but could have been improved. There was also lack of one whens when they were needed (common mistake in the tileset)
The base placement was evil though. :-)
OVERALL: An above average level, barely worth your d/l.
