This is a fairly interesting battle level.
Eyecandy: 7/10
The eyecandy is relatively good, but doesn’t really stand out to me. As with most levels using this tileset, it’s fairly bright and clean looking. There’s some nice layering with the background throughout the level, and I like the part just above the “sparkly pumpkin,” with a waterfall that appears to fall between two layers of background. I don’t really like the layer 2 rain much, because it seems to move too fast and if anything gives the impression of a powerful storm with wild winds, which don’t really fit with the blue sky and rest of the background. Events like moths and food, (although the food at least can also effect gameplay to some extent) give the level a pleasant, natural look.
Gameplay: 6/10
The gameplay of this level has some interesting ideas, and could lead to fun games, but doesn’t really feel polished all the way. The most unique part of the level I noticed was two coin warps. One requires 20 coins, the other requires 50. The 20 coin warp can send a player to either a bouncy or pepper-spray power-up, while the 50 coin warp can send the player to either an empty room or a room with a shield and a blaster power-up. The empty room is three times more likely than the room with the power-up and shield. (I know for single player warps with multiple targets aren’t actually random, but I forget if this is true for multiplayer games. If it is, then a smart player can always get their money’s worth for the 50 coins if they use the 20 coin warp the right number of times in before using the 50.) I feel this is a bit unbalanced. A shield is nice, and the blaster could be useful because of the relatively sparse ammo on the level, but without any fast-fires on the level, a bouncy power-up is far superior in the long run, if one can collect ammo fast enough. Which actually could be rather difficult, because every generator on this level seems to have a delay of 30 seconds, and there isn’t a particularly large amount of ammo on the level to begin with. If there are many players, collecting 50 coins would be nearly impossible, and getting the reward doesn’t seem worth the effort, especially if one ends up getting dumped into an empty room 75% of the time. Ammo is also difficult to collect enough of. This is especially true because there is only one power-up that does real damage and requires ammo. I believe there are six +3 bouncy ammo events to collect, each with a respawn time of 30. Of course, limiting people’s ability to use power-ups may also work ok, because there is only one +1 carrot that players are supposed to be able to get. It is possible to get a full NRG with a somewhat tricky rf jump (No, i did not use any cheat codes to get up there). The bouncy power-up and pepper-spray can also be got by some possibly unintentional means. The pepper-spray can be shot through the walls of its room by running into the wall and shooting some bouncies just before colliding. The bouncy power-up requires either the warp or a rather difficult rf jump that would be even more difficult during an actual battle, so this probably doesn’t have to be worried about.
6+7=13/20=6.5/10
Overall, this level is fairly good, but because it’s rather difficult to collect ammo, I don’t find the gameplay as great as it could be, and don’t believe the level really stands out much.
That’s good, but there are better Candion tileset than it.
(Sorry my english, I’m Turkish)
All of it SHOULD be fixed.
First of all,the levels dont have sign where and what to use.
Second, the test is way to easy.
Third The backgroud is weird,lame,confusing,annoying.
Fourth i give it a 2.
Good job! I dont give download reccomend!!
Oh and the math thing it’s lame…What’s it for anyway?to study while playing test?D:…And The RF thing is too big.(Edited to 1.5)
GG.
Well…I played this test it is very hard…It’s not annoying like those other tests…The level 1 is actually that is a bit annoying and lvl 3…because of flout ups on lvl 1…and on lvl 3 because if you fail you get to start again…Oh and lvl 10 is almost inpossible…Oh well atleast it isn’t like other test. Final score 8.7
Hey dude, this test is hard, and because its good and you, ppl of jj2, must play this if you want become better in completing hard tests… :D
I dont know…BG is weirdry, gameplay is something terrible…
[EDITED]
Looking on this lvl i changed my mind…
and I set 2.0…

I just take a look at level in file preview, and I could review it 1, but I will not do that. Actually, the only one thing which i can say about it that if thats your best level, then you are very poor levelmaker. Try to do something better, but REALLY better, don’t spam with your levels at j2o.
Ah btw, next time try to think about better levelname.
The problem about ambient lighting is not because game can’t handle the size, I have got one sp level which size is 41kb and ambient lighting is working very good, but for example in my test lighting is not working. I have no idea why.
Edit: Level is not working for me, I don’t know why but i don’t have got this tileset in my TSF directory. Btw i remind something about lighting… Did you put water into level? If you did then its possibile that lighting will not work. I found an article about ambient lighting under water, and there was something about changing colour of water using ambient lighting, it was working only at 8bit. So if im sure, thats possibile why ambient lighting is not working in your level, but if you didn’t put water into level then i have no idea why that’s not working.
Amazing. You really should get JJ2 again and make more levels like this.
Bugs:
– The poles can be fixed by putting them in background layer 5
- The tiles as the base of hte staircases toward the end could have been fixed in a similar fashion (wall on layer 5, stairs on layer 4, floor below stairs on layer 3).
– The problem with the ambient lighting is due to the fact that this tileset doesn’t have enough palette entries to produce the lighting underwater. Only a few tilesets like Beach2 will let you do this. There’s an artifle on JCSRef about it.
The eyecandy is very good. You brought some new ideas to the table with things like the animated vines. It made it look like they were alive or dripping with something. Very cool. The background eyecandy was lacking. Some towers or something would have been enough. What amazes me is your use of the Haunted House tileset. It’s really hard to use. The eyecandy is very appealing except for at the very end where the staircases are stacked one on top of another.
Gameplay was fun and challenging. One part of the level has a pretty long series of trigger crates you have to smash. Normally, this would be boring but because the general structure of the level impedes you it’s fun. There are collapsing floors and well-timed jumps a-plenty. Pickup placement was very good – lots of secrets and such. I think the food items could have been used as a contrast rather than a compliment (peaches in a level that’s generally purple for example). The ammo was fine, and it had a practical use. I never did find all 20 coins, unfortunately.
The music could be changed. These would be my suggestions for something more original:
- Haunted Terrero: tek11bak.s3m
- All Hallow’s Eve: K_HALLOW.s3m
The problems with this level are very minor. If you decide to create more levels, you should try to integrate ideas from other people.
PS: How did you make the demons walk off the edge of the platforms? That could be a really useful gimmick.
For bugfixes:
- Make sure the walls tile all the way to the ceiling in the top right area.
- Make sure the level ends with “End” in the next level string.
The eyecandy of this level is good, but not amazing. This particular tileset makes it easy to pretty things up. I’d be curious to see how you make use of a more simple tileset. The waterfalls in the foreground were repetitive and made it hard to see. If you really want to use that many, don’t spread them all over the foreground like seagull poo on a windshield.
Gameplay was okay in the sense that it was consistent in the level (no contrast between unique ideas and boring parts). There was nothing new or particularly challenging. It was also short.
You can probably recycle this level into something better, but I’d give it a 5 for effort.
Thanks Thanks Thanks
I was searching a tileset as good as this one!
Well… this wasnt the best tileset that I had see, but creating a tileset isnt easy. I´ll put you 3.7 because youre creative and you´ll progress.
Seems good.
I´ll download it right now :)
The title seems nice but i wanted to rate you.
Do not get scared for bad ratings. You´ll learn from your mistakes.
So easy and Unuses…I mean these BG’s is annoying for using…
