When reviewing a tileset such as this you need to remember to review only the effort in joining the tilesets and not the art that is drawn by someone else.
Joining two tilesets is more about recoloring and editing existing tiles. Running out of colors isn’t an excuse for a job not done, as you have over two hundred colors available and the possibility to edit current tiles to fit the new color schemes is there.
This seems more like the author ran the sets through a color reduction program and splattered them into whatever available space a pre-made palette.
Although the idea of Carrotus joined with Castle in one tileset is interesting, the choices of tiles still need to be well thought and the colors well handled.
I apologize, but download is not recommended.
Just wanted to say that the first screenshot displayed is NOT part of the level at all. This is actually the screen of the beta version of Diamondus.
I played partway through this and wasn’t overly impressed with it. It has some good ideas and some good eyecandy, but it also has some bad ideas and bad eyecandy. Like the spike pit in the castle level. What’s with that?! The movie intro sequence thingies weren’t really up to par, and the flow was wierd.
Still, the concept was okay, if also eluscive, and it WAS playable. Unfortunately, I’m gonna have to give you a 5.9 and no dl rec. I hate doing that, after all your hard work on it, and I heartily suggest going back and fixing it up. It’s a great pack, albeit in need of work. Just fix ‘er up and wait…
now I can sum this up as don’t download right now, but what type of reviewer would I do if i did?
Eyecandey
Sometimes, I wish the staff would go through new submissions and get rid of the pure garbage ones….uh, sorry back to reality. Eyecandey, what to say. If you put a skunk and dog **** in blender what would you get? This. The background doesn’t fit and there’s no layer 7, 6 or 5. There is a little bit in layer 3, but those are just animated beakers floating in mid air. Layer 4 is horrible. It’s the bare basics and probably a little less then that. All it is some floor tiles put together and thrown in the blender along with the sunk and dog mixture. they float like magic and is boring to look at.

Gameplay
Go right, kill enemies, drop, do this again, got right, fight enemies, end. Need I say more?
1/10
Enemy Placement
All there is is bunch of random enemies thrown in and a lot of them have nothing to do with the tileset. Nothing is put in strategic locations and you can just get hit once then run for the exit basically.

Pickup Placement
I saw a couple of gems in the beginning and a useless toaster powerup. That’s all.

DR? I really wanted this review to be longer, bit i don’t know what else to say. Keep working at levels though. Learn from your mistakes and don’t let my comment discourage you. No Download Recommended though. Keep trying. You’ll get better!
Hmm… Tileset is nice, level is nice.
Not perfect, but good.
BTW, I got myself stuck in level, and had to jjfly/nowall out.
Download recommendation.
I really like this idea.
I had seen many maps with the same concept in TrackMania and I also liked it very much!
Thank you HàTéBrèéD :)
As the tileset author, I was very impressed with how you managed to make a smooth and rich layout using so few tiles as the set had. It always makes me happy to see people get in depth with my set and make such impressive levels, and I’m honored you choose my set for your contest entry.
I would rate this but I’m afraid I’d base my rating on your usage of my set rather than the actual game play. I hope that a few kind words will do. ;)
Great tileset, I love it! You’ve also made a good example level that explains it!
I will use it in future
There are some tiny tiny small mask probs, the turtle shell feels too small and the baloons are tricky to get on (need a smaller mask)
Still really great!
Download? YES!
yes this looks like cool but i believe in something one better , i believe if u have mp3,s that fit certain levels u need an sort of program that suports the mp3 yes , but without alot of bullshit like that insead of only xm jj2 brings mp3 suport , not like streaming music but that a proram next to jj2 so that ur music is in better quality greetzzz
Some reviews with ratings would be very much appreciated!
From the bottom of my soul, I give you my review, but firstly, I would like to point out one big problem. Please don’t use basic filenames like begining, or castle5, or easter because those names are so common that they overwrite other levels. Call them something like “HF1Easter” or something else because then people can distinguish your work from others (HF standing for Headfreak, 1 standing for episode 1 etc.). Now, the review.
BEGINING:
The intro level…
CASTLE5 (Also titled, the begining)
At a first glance, the eyecandy wasn’t too bad. Most of the level was fixed, and there was a wide variety of layers used. There were one or two odd tilebugs, but overall, pretty good. Next time, however, it would be nice to see a variety of non-JJ2 tilesets used (this goes for all levels).
Now the gameplay, and it is far too easy. At the start of the level, the coins required for the 20 coin warp are right next to it, the majority of enemies used are norm turtles and there are extra lives just lying around the place. There were also no trigger puzzles or particularily difficult challenges, which will definately need to be required to get higher ratings. Also, you could use the CTF trick instead of spikes in pits to make it less annoying.
EASTER:
This level looks remarkably similar to one I played a few months ago, like Mortalspaz said. The eyecandy was again OK. Most layers used, lots of content ect. However, the problem with easter tilesets is that the ground blocks don’t fix together, so next time I suggest using one of the fixed easter tilesets. Even better: if you want to create a forest (as the name suggests), use a forest themed tileset, as there are plenty out there.
The gameplay was better than the first level. There was a lot more content and there were actually a couple of challenges. There was a wider variety of enemies used and there weree trigger puzzles. You also had to find the coins this time. However, there were elements of TSF levels in there and some elements of the level which seemed copied from other levels, with makes it less original and less fun.
BOSS:
Well, just a simple boss level, which is a classic way to end a pack. You could have maed it more fun if there was a bit of challenging level before the boss so that it flows better.
OTHER THINGS:
Also, there were a couple of loopholes in the story. You could have made it mroe detailed (e.g. why do you have to save the queen?? What incentives do you have?? etc. It is good that you have included a story into your pack, but a more detailed one is better and more fun. Also, please make the next episode longer (maybe at least 5 good long levels). 3 levels just doesn’t feel like a lengthy episode.
FINAL RATING:5.6
RANK: 5 Average
DOWNLOAD?: I would wait for episode 2. I think there needs to be a lot of work put into episode 2 and a bit more time spent into it. I would love to see more content, challenges and those loopholes in the story fixed. It also wouldn’t hurt to use some non-JJ2 tilesets for better originality. Download this if you are bored for 5 minutes.
I absolutely love this set…not only does it easily fit in and work with Jazz, it is unique, fully functional, and i just love it.
My next map is using this guarenteed.

SJ said it all. This set is really versatile and good looking.
This is another Moonblaze tileset in…how long? I can’t remember. It has been ages. However, this tileset is really unique and was surely worth the work, so it must be worth some level creation and reviewing also.
Now the first question is, what kind of levels does this kind of theme fit in the best? I would say all, but especially Solo-Player and…tests? There is plenty of usability in this set, but there could be also much more. You are able to create your hyper-speed coaster tracks with this set, and make your ballistic bunny a real rocket. Then again, I expected the set had some kind of 360 degree loops for the coaster, like in Sonic, where this idea came from. Also, this set is basically only about ‘park’ and ‘coasters.’ I wish there would have been a few more thrilling rides included, that would of course have something to do with gameplay, not only eyecandy.
I have to say the tileset graphics fit quite perfectly to JJ2. Although it is cartoonish, it is cartoonish in a way that makes it feel like it’s a true Jazz-tileset. There are also lots of animated tile-series that can make your levels feel more ‘alive.’
It is pretty easy to learn the use of the basic tiles of the tileset, but it will surely take time to master it entirely. The way to reach the master-stage is experimenting, of course. Once you’ve mastered it up, you are able to go even more creative with the set than it would have been even realistic.
I’ve got to say this is definitely number 1 nominee for the Featured Download of the Month, so great job MB or sth. Now get your hands on this thing and start creating! Download and experience yourself!
Well, believe it or not, your level is slowly becoming legendary among online games. I keep hearing ‘Best CTF Party Good Luck’ as a possible level switch in various servers and even duellers are starting to enter Best CTF Party Good Luck. After all, good luck! :P
Yeah well it hardly matters. The whole idea was to just rearrange it made it easier to use as I made 2 levels with colonial, and it was hell. Also it hardly matters for added tiles, I only had like 12 more tiles I could add anyway as I was on the tileset limit. :)
This is a good fix of the Colon tilesets.
Everything is re-arranged so that you can find the tiles more easily.
However, it could probably do with a Keyhole block and the V & H-Poles.
One noticable thing about this set is that the flames can now be used in the Day version.
If you find Colon hard to use, I recommend getting this tileset.
I did help out with this though, so it’s probably best that I don’t rate this.
Still, this is a good fix of the original Colon sets which were messy in terms of how the tiles were arranged.
Well, I promised a review, so here is a review!
At first glance, Sonicnathan1’s fixup of the Colonius tileset appears to be simply a rearrangment of the tiles, along with some clever masking speeches. And after examining it myself, I have come to the conclusion that…….that’s all it really is. Not to offend SN, who happens to be a chum of mine. I do have to admit, though, it IS a good fix. The tiles have been set in a much more accessible and more friendly way [the tileset was pure crud before in terms of organization], which is good. Colors are okay, not really any noticeable bugs, it looks pretty good.l However, there really aren’t any fluff tiles in this set, like custom eyecandy and the like, which saddens me, considering the enormous amount of possibilities for this there are. Still, it is a great fixuppage of the set, and I will give it a 5.3 and a DL rec, if just because it’s a promising reconstruction of a nice set. Gj!
It has to be said that this version is much much better in terms of content, and it is a good thing that you got rid of those pointless error messages and tubelectric tiles. However, I don’t get why the background has trees and stuff when this is supposedly a windows themed tileset. You also could have gone one further and made a keyboard too among other things you could have added. I love the idea, but as a general tileset, I still think that it needs some work.
