Doesn’t one of these exsist already?
Well we got some good, some bad and some ugly here.
Good: I love the concepts behind these and they are very fun to play, and appear as Epic would have done them
Bad: Masking is buggy in places, excessive enemies in places
Ugly: Although they work in Jazz2, most will not open through JCS{specifically Labrat1, Psych2, Psych3). AS well, there are several places where it looks like there was supposed to be tiles but they are missing.
I would rate down alot because of that, but these are both negative side effects of using ZapS’s TSF to 1.23 convertor, as for now i will assume it was converted from 1.24.
Despite this, try it out using homecooked or captain cook (or even replace in your campaign) as these are all entertaining in the classic campaign sense.
Really cool, a bit too gimmicky and kinda wack but still cool.
Well not bad, but not perfect.
What this is: This is basically the castle and carrotus tileset put in a blender and compiled. While I do agree that this is a good idea, some things could have been changed.
Color
For the most part, the color looks good. Castle looks the same and carrotus looks the same. The only problem is with the carrots, they look bad. The textured background looks good and looks corrected. Overall, good colors.
8/10
Pallet Events
This is a big hitter. Almost non of them work. even the carrotus pole doesn’t work. The only thing that works well is the Textured background and water. Just the fact the carrotus pole doesn’t work really hurts this.
2/10
Ease of Use
Well this is a quite a bit harder to use then the other tilesets. You kinda need to know them both to use them effectively. Even so, it’s still easy to use.
7/10
Usability
This tileset is very usable. You can make quite a couple of combinations. That being said, it’s still only castle and carrotus, meaning you’re limited to those two themes. Even so, there’s still quite a bit of re-usability here.
7/10
Added stuff
Almost nothing. All that really has been added are the connection tiles. There could have a lot more that could have been added.
2/10
Mask
Almost non of the masking bugs have been fixed. that being said, the masking still works most of the time. I would have liked the masking fixed.
6/10
Final Score:31/60
Score:5.5
Rank C
DR? Well this is a hard one. This is a good tileset, but I think a lot more could have been done (Mask fix, more tiles)other then just pasting the two tilesets together. Still, if you want something like this, go ahead and download as it does work, just don’t expect anything spectacular.
Edit:I remove my rating since there was another update.
Well time to start my journey of changing most of my quick review to normal!
I’m not going to do this like a regular level because this is something different. The eyecandey is nothing special but the eyecandey is not the main focus. It’s what the level has to offer. Basically, this is a level where you watch you character do a bunch really crazy and wild moves. Using combination of springs, suckers and warps the author made it look like Jazz was doing this by himself. i was amazed at how flawless it was. There are some downfalls however. Even though it’s cool to see enemies getting defeated without you doing anything, there are some areas where you are just sitting there waiting for something to happen. I can be boring. The final boss with the robot was incredible. I was amazed how it could be defeated by using springs and warps. I was even more shocked when I won without pressing a button.
The creativity is amazing here and I highly recommend a download. I give this a 8 because of not much eyecandey and the fact it can be boring at spots.
yea it’s fun.. and like to see ones. but not really something that has some real effort (for a 9.9) except the idea’s some things could work out even better. it becomes rather useless after you played it once. it’s more like a film then gaming itself. but still, the idea’s are awesome.
Prupel jaz sez:
LEVEL IS GUD AND STRONG
Ok, so I helped create this, and I guess I can’t rate it. But I would like to leave a comment.
To be entirely honest, when I first learned what sonicnathan was trying to do, I had no idea why. I never thought of Colonius as a particularly broken set. I rarely used it, but didn’t notice mask problems or anything that seemed to be in need of a change. The levels I had played with it seemed perfectly good.
However, as I started to make the mask, and really had to pay attention to the details, I understood the fix. I found a couple of random problems in masks, such as inconsistencies in the benches, and a section of the background that was auto-masked (I’m not sure why it was masked at all). Also, when I would look for a specific tile so I could find exactly what the mask was supposed to be like, they were in really random places. The fixed tileset would be way easier to find tiles in and build levels from.
Therefore, I’d definitely recommend a download if I was allowed to.
PS, I don’t think I deserve too much credit for this. Sonicnathan was the genius behind the ideas, and all I did was some copy/pasting for the tileset.
the level was kinda easy for me…
I like it to be harder than this,
There were too many 3Ways that i did not used and tht part with the crate maze was boring because i was searching and searching for the way to those crates and few times i got stuck(without jjk) but, instead of that i used jjfly and jjnowall to get to some crates because i’ve got bored.
The gameplay was nasty there were too many goodies and a small number of enemies(i lost 2 lives in the level)
But there were some good things about it like the background use the layer use and the schwartzenguard boss and I found an uterus boss as well which you do not usualy find in diamondus
So … I’m sorry but 5.5
Tip:Try putting more flying enemies better with less goodies(but not much)and more enemies to make it harder.
and something that hurts if you fall into it(sort of)no matter how long it takes to finish the level
Pretty good. Pretty damn good!
gj, it actually feels like a real volcano
A part of this I saw before I gues but the most of it was new and looking very coowl!! Almost everything did work flawless except the lizards.
Almost compleetly agree with Plunk about the Wow! part :D
Firstly, please sort out and translate all of your text from Spanish (as far as I’m concerned) to English, as most of us here speak English. I didn’t understand the texts in the level at all. As for the levels themselves, well, we’ll just have to see…
EYECANDY:
I wasn’t completely shocked by the eyecandy. 60% or so of it was fixed, but the other 40% was quite bad. The background layers weren’t fixed in level 1, there were areas in the levels where foreground tiles were missing completely where they were needed (the hat for example) and there was nothing to back up the floor tiles below, so you could see beyond the bottoms of floor tiles. Some of the animated tiles also didn’t fit with each other (the cat for example). Also, there were some random tile placements. Why on earth are there some blocks floating at the beginning of the first level and they don’t even do anything?
However, there is a good variety of layers used.
GAMEPLAY:
Both levels seem to have the same style. Both of them are completely linear to the end, both of them have no puzzles whatsoever and both of them consist mainly of just killings some enemies and getting past some insanely long catterpillars and some spikes. There were almost no items. There was also a failed attempt to place destruct blocks in the second level, and they didn’t show up because destructive blocks require animated tiles. It also helps to put a story in your level packs.
FINAL RATING: 1.4
DOWNLOAD?: Unfortunately, most of the 0.4 you scored comes from the half fixed-eyecandy. To improve the score, try increasing the amount of gameplay and content in your levels and spend more time on them.
BTW, I found SPAZ18’s quick review helpful.
I liked it very much and it’s worth downloading and using for levels
[When I say Quick Review, I mean QUICK REVIEW. Review changed for the third time, edit again, you get a warning ~cooba]
I liked it but… Ischa, If you get stuck there are more than 1 way to get out(other than jjk)
If you get stuck try using jjfly and jjnowall
“Date uploaded: 04-01-09”
Coincidence?
Anyway, the level is extremely linear and eyecandy is very bad with tilebugs everywhere. I couldn’t understand what the textstrings said and they were too high up on the screen. Use the “@” to move the text down.
Most of the Layers were used but you didn’t use Layer 3 to cover up the hats.
If you’re downloading this, you’re probably just doing it to get Condemned and City of the Sn00ze, which are pretty much the best levels this pack has to offer. Systematic Crash is also a very solid level (partly for being one of few DOM levels so far) and I have to admit I have a soft spot for Ancient Abyss and Secret Forest Shrine simply for their awesome and rather unique visual style… but apart from that, I’m sorry to say this pack isn’t really all that special. Most of the levels have either very generic design or have some original ideas which sadly weren’t implemented very well. It’s a shame, as I was kind of expecting more out of this.
I was close to giving this an 8.0 for all the sheer effort that obviously went into it despite everything, but in the end it just didn’t sit right with me so, while feeling a bit mean doing this, I’m leaving it at a 7.5 right now. I might change my mind and up the rating later tho’ as a lot of effort obviously went into this.
In closing, take my comments with a grain of salt, as while overall nothing too much out of the ordinary, this pack is by no means bad and certainly warrants a download recommendation. It doesn’t deserve all the 9+ marks it got but I’ll be the first to admit I’m pretty critical in rating stuff so if it’d been anyone else this would’ve probably been an 8 at least. Even if you’re mostly getting it for the levels I mentioned above the other stuff in there is generally solid level design if nothing else and is sure to keep you entertained for a while. ;)
definitely the coolest thing on J2O
Wow….. Thats just about all i can say
Although this is not an actual map or anything, it is probably the most impressive thing i have ever seen done in Jazz Jackrabbit 2 using JCS
basically it starts, and your character navigates and does amazing manouvers, and solves some very challenging looking puzzles and tasks, and eventually after several things he defeats the queen, and even does a cleverly thought out boss battle against the robot boss.
GET THIS :
At one portion of this there is a cluster of flying lizards, he even has it timed so the stand still shooting up thing happens when they get above you and explode.
I 100% reccommend this and it deserves an extremely high rating due to its cleverness, and just pure amazement while watching.
