I’ve used Paint Shop Pro 8 and Paint.
While this set lacks any versatility, the grainy graphical style works out well, does not look ugly at all, and fits the cartoonish theme of JJ2 quite well. The mountains especially looked impressive. People probably won’t use this though, because there is very little that can be done with this set that the example level din’t do already.
I tried that djazz, but is STAYS ugly!
>:(
AND the neon colors of pinball events is because of the necessary colors of the carrotus pole.
Very nice tileset, I like it
Things that could have been better:Rating: 7.5
Download? Yes!
Ps. What program did you made this in? Pain Shop Pro? Paint? etc.
WOW! Thsi is a really great JJ2 tileset conversion! Sry for the carrots, but’s still cool =D
Rate: 9 of 10 due to the pinball events & carrots, and try to change the color of the pinball events instead of neon-green
Download: Absolutley ;)
To fix the 500 bump and carrot bump, put those colors in tileset, took a long time and many tries before I figured this out =)
Intresting..
The new Version has a lower rating than the old version without eyecandy and the boss.
LOL
Thanks for Reviews!
A bunch of poorly made, slapped together tilesets with little to no usability (Right Red Turn On is a just bunch of coloured lines!), gaping flaws that show lack of testing (the textured background in Green doesn’t work), and bad design choices (why couldn’t you take the whole Carrotus and make it that palette instead of removing the background?)
This is a nifty little battle level, but pretty overrated in my opinion – I mean, a 9.0, what the heck? P4ul’s amazing skills at visual design come through once again meaning that the level has a great atmosphere and, while a bit bleak, gray and empty sure is a sight to behold (and hey, it is supposed to be a void, after all). I’m particularly fond of the music, a nifty little tune by Luigi Electro: it’s a simple tune but it grows on you fast.
Apart from that this level has nothing really special to offer tho’, the layout while obviously solid is nothing out of the ordinary. The pits may be annoying to some, personally I found them okay although you can fall into them real easily if you don’t have a good grasp of the layout. I like the little alcove at the top left of the level tho’, it’s the little details like that which get me. ; )
I might expand this review later as I actually have more to say about this level (or would like to say what I did in more detail) but for now, take a solid 7.0 and a download recommendation.
A clever little novelty, if nothing else. It’s really only good for a single run-through considering you never actually have to DO anything to beat the map, just sit back and watch (it doesn’t always work all the way through tho’). The sheer amount of ways this is accomplished makes it a pretty interesting experience to sit down and look at tho’, and maybe open up in JCS to see how some of it is done. Kind of reminds me of this old text-based RPG I used to have that’d simply play itself – all you had to do was turn it on.
This thing is pretty overrated in my opinion. A 7.0 seems appropriate. Worth a look, if only for the sheer uniqueness of it and all the clever little ways the level operates.
Quite a large battle level that is well suited for public servers and events. It’s solid all round, however it’s kinda generic and has aside from the size has nothing special about it, so it doesn’t quite deserve an 8 but it’s still pretty damn good.
An okay pack, however quite overrated. The general quality is fairly good but these levels are nothing too special and QQ’s central tube is infamous for it’s consistant annoyance to players. Don’t get me wrong, this is a decent level pack but is just lightweight and doesn’t really have anything that makes it stand out amongst other packs.
Yes! I DO review things other than music once in a while! Amazing, I know…
==================Simple Review==================
Base Score: 5/10
Point Bonuses: +5
[+3] Extremely creative use of the basic Jazz Jackrabbit 2 engine and most of its gizmos!
[+2] Good eye for detail! Interesting how there are subtle differences between Spaz and Jazz or Lori which make this level work only for him… I would not have noticed otherwise.
Point Deductions: -3
[-1] Undocumented: Only seems to work on Medium difficulty…
[-1] Even then, it doesn’t always work. Snag areas include the float lizards (on Hard at least) and the conveyor/TNT crate area.
[-1] There are some serious “dry spell” areas… For example, the “fight” with Queen Earlong took too long (and didn’t always work perfectly) and there was at least two long stretches of NOTHING which were in dire need of SOMETHING, I saw…
[0] That palette is ugly. Seriously. It looks like you removed one of the RGB values or something…
[0] You misspelled “Running” as “Runnig”. ;P
Final Score: 7/10
=================Extended Review=================
Introduction:
Run, rabbit, run! Run until you can’t run no more! And then keep running anyway! Mwa ha ha ha ha!!! [ahem] This is the first level of its kind (to my knowledge) in Jazz Jackrabbit 2 — that is to say, a level that plays ITSELF. Super Mario World? Rockman Rockman? Eat your heart out.
Level Analysis:
At first glance, it looks like your average level. A very complex one, at that! Springs, crates, enemies, gems, food, and all sorts of other things EVERYWHERE! Kind of an “elegant mess” of sorts. Best of all, it was created using only a basic “Castle” tileset whose palette was altered (and I think one or two tiles were added?).
Features Analysis:
Okay, first, you fall down this shaft, right? Then, you get tossed around a lot! Then, you eat a lot of food, beat up some enemies, collect BUTTLOADS of treasure, beat up MORE enemies, bully Queen Earlong around, run around like a maniac, bounce, bounce, bounce, swing, fly, bounce, run more, and finally show Devan Shell and his Superbot who’s boss! All this, and you never, ever have to touch a single button.
You tell me that doesn’t sound awesome.
Final Analysis:
You wouldn’t happen to have some sort of Japanese gamer heritage in you, would you? I say this because a few Japanese gamers — particularly those that hang around Nico Nico Douga — seem to have an obsession and are darn good at making “automatic stages” in various games… Anyway, despite the glitches mentioned above, this is most definately worth the minimal time it takes to download and DEFINATELY worth five minutes of your time to watch in action! It’s just that awesome. When it works. ;3

Doesn’t one of these exsist already?
Well we got some good, some bad and some ugly here.
Good: I love the concepts behind these and they are very fun to play, and appear as Epic would have done them
Bad: Masking is buggy in places, excessive enemies in places
Ugly: Although they work in Jazz2, most will not open through JCS{specifically Labrat1, Psych2, Psych3). AS well, there are several places where it looks like there was supposed to be tiles but they are missing.
I would rate down alot because of that, but these are both negative side effects of using ZapS’s TSF to 1.23 convertor, as for now i will assume it was converted from 1.24.
Despite this, try it out using homecooked or captain cook (or even replace in your campaign) as these are all entertaining in the classic campaign sense.
Really cool, a bit too gimmicky and kinda wack but still cool.
Well not bad, but not perfect.
What this is: This is basically the castle and carrotus tileset put in a blender and compiled. While I do agree that this is a good idea, some things could have been changed.
Color
For the most part, the color looks good. Castle looks the same and carrotus looks the same. The only problem is with the carrots, they look bad. The textured background looks good and looks corrected. Overall, good colors.
8/10
Pallet Events
This is a big hitter. Almost non of them work. even the carrotus pole doesn’t work. The only thing that works well is the Textured background and water. Just the fact the carrotus pole doesn’t work really hurts this.
2/10
Ease of Use
Well this is a quite a bit harder to use then the other tilesets. You kinda need to know them both to use them effectively. Even so, it’s still easy to use.
7/10
Usability
This tileset is very usable. You can make quite a couple of combinations. That being said, it’s still only castle and carrotus, meaning you’re limited to those two themes. Even so, there’s still quite a bit of re-usability here.
7/10
Added stuff
Almost nothing. All that really has been added are the connection tiles. There could have a lot more that could have been added.
2/10
Mask
Almost non of the masking bugs have been fixed. that being said, the masking still works most of the time. I would have liked the masking fixed.
6/10
Final Score:31/60
Score:5.5
Rank C
DR? Well this is a hard one. This is a good tileset, but I think a lot more could have been done (Mask fix, more tiles)other then just pasting the two tilesets together. Still, if you want something like this, go ahead and download as it does work, just don’t expect anything spectacular.
Edit:I remove my rating since there was another update.
Well time to start my journey of changing most of my quick review to normal!
I’m not going to do this like a regular level because this is something different. The eyecandey is nothing special but the eyecandey is not the main focus. It’s what the level has to offer. Basically, this is a level where you watch you character do a bunch really crazy and wild moves. Using combination of springs, suckers and warps the author made it look like Jazz was doing this by himself. i was amazed at how flawless it was. There are some downfalls however. Even though it’s cool to see enemies getting defeated without you doing anything, there are some areas where you are just sitting there waiting for something to happen. I can be boring. The final boss with the robot was incredible. I was amazed how it could be defeated by using springs and warps. I was even more shocked when I won without pressing a button.
The creativity is amazing here and I highly recommend a download. I give this a 8 because of not much eyecandey and the fact it can be boring at spots.
yea it’s fun.. and like to see ones. but not really something that has some real effort (for a 9.9) except the idea’s some things could work out even better. it becomes rather useless after you played it once. it’s more like a film then gaming itself. but still, the idea’s are awesome.
