This tileset looks very MSpainty.

EYECANDY
Not very good. Like what I said just a second ago, it looks like it was drawn in MSPaint. Instead it should have texture drawn in Photoshop or PSP.
5/10

MASK
A very rough mask with lots of tiny gaps you can get stuck in.
4/10

DIFFICULTY
Not very easy to make good levels with this tileset.

Not good.

4 CASTLES OF DARKNESS REVIEW:

EYECANDY: Bad. This is just a bunch of Tiles randomly thrown together. 1/10

GAMEPLAY: Hardly any. 4 very short levels. All the levels were EXACTLY the same, just different enemies and Bosses in each of them. Just kill enemies and beat a Boss in each of the levels. 1/10

PICKUPS: No food. Too many gems, there was about 50 Purple gems in each level. 20 Coins at the very beginning which can be used to access a very poorly placed Bonus Area containing LOTS of ammo. 1/10

STORY: N/A

ENEMIES: Very few. Just a Boss. Nothing more to say about this. 1/10

OBSTACLES: Not many. There was some destruct scenery but that’s just about it. No Trigger Crates or anything like that. 1/10

DIFFICULTY: Far too easy. 1/10

TOTAL: 6/60 (1.0)

Sorry, I know the rating is low but the level pack is just not good. I’m afraid I can’t recommend this. So no DR. Check out HowToJCS or JCSRef for help on using JCS. Find these in the Links section. I used to suck at JCS. But thanks to these sites I got better at using it.

Eyecandy 0/5:

The eyecandy of this level was very poor. Most of the tiles were used improperly, and had a jagged appearance. You need to make your tiles match up with their respective partner tiles. The levels had no lighting at all, which is hard on the eyes. You need to make the level a little darker next time. Also, there were a lot of pointless areas that served no purpose.

Gameplay 1/5:

I have to say, you really got lazy on these levels. All you did was use the same layout with four different tilesets. Most of the level involved killing enemies and warping to the next area. This was boring because: 1. There were mobs of enemies to kill with no reward for doing so, and 2. The warps were not obvious (the player had to search for them). There was no food in this level. That made it even more boring.

Item placement 0/5. You need to spread out the pickups more rather than making masses of them. There was no food in the level.

Replayability bonus: No….just no.

Originality: You did the same thing every other inexperienced levelmaker does….make a level that’s lacking in all respects.

Sorry, but this fails. No download recommendation. Play the levels other people have made, and pattern yours in a similiar, but original fashion.

The eyecandy was ok in most areas, but some places looked very dull.

it’s possible to get out of the trap with spaz..

anyway, I like the idea of the level, but the part above the bridges at the top of the level could use some exits downwards. also, you could play a bit with the lightning (like you make some holes in the background and put a steady light event on it).. the idea is nice, but this level could certainly use some fixing. Also, I really didn’t like the powerup room. you’d better move them around in the level

This is good for your first Tileset.

EYECANDY
The eyecandy is exellent, especally the background. Maybe you could add a bit more next time.
8/10

MASK
The mask is quite bad, there are several holes where I got stuck in. This area needs improvment.
5/10

DIFICULTY
This tileset is easy to use, so it is a good tileset for begginers to make levels from.

OK, I finished it. So here’s the review.

A GENERIC SINGLE PLAYER LEVEL REVIEW:

EYECANDY: Tileset is from a fantastic game called Xargon. Backgrounds and foregrounds look like they would in Xargon. The lighting effects are cool. I love the use of the “Flicker Light” events. 10/10

GAMEPLAY: There are just 2 levels but these levels are HUGE and LONG. First one took me about an hour to finish. 10/10

PICKUPS: There’s not that much food but it was used for decoration to look like the food from the Xargon game. There was lots of coins in the levels. Finding them all would take you to a Bonus Area and they were hard to find. Not too many 1UPs and they are very well placed. 10/10

ENEMIES: There was a bit too many placed everywhere. Especially, in annoying places such as on end of cliffs. 8/10

OBSTACLES: There was 4 Trigger Crates to find in the first level and they were very well hidden. The doors opened EXACTLY like they did in Xargon. But there was a bug with 3 of the doors in the first level. When I was in that area with the trees and went into the warp, the first 3 doors didn’t seem to open. There was a problem with the Trigger Zone. But all the others opened correctly. 9/10

DIFFICULTY: I was playing this on easy and I still found it REALLY HARD. So that’s good. 9/10

MUSIC: Even though there wasn’t Xargon music, the music used here went very well with the levels. 9/10

TOTAL: 65/70 (9.2857142857142857142857142857143)
Rounded to 9.2 since scores like that are impossible. I would have done a 9.3 if I could.

This “Tileset” doesn’t help people make tilesets at all. It is just some pics of a dog, a person and a mouse. This is nothing to do with making a tileset. It just shows that you can use ripped images in a tileset. If you want some images then download this, otherwise don’t download this.
