Incredible Coowl! thats everything i can say.
Keep up the good Work!
(Incredible cow? Unsupported rating (10) removal. ~Violet)
No ratings? I’d like a rating, that kinda sux.
I’m actually wondering why is my review gone from yet another upload… It was right after WR’s if I happen to remember correct, at least it shouldn’t have had anything unusual. Weird. ;/
Firstly, this level is a demo and not sure if these are allowed.
EYECANDY: 14/20
The eyecandy in this level is good for the backround. You didn’t make the textured backround move which make the level boring. You missed the oppertunity to add foreground eyecandy which gives the level more detail. Instead there is no foreground eyecandy which leaves the level boring. Overall, layers 5, 6 and 7 are OK but layer 8 doesn’t move and the foreground layers have no eyecandy.
GAMEPLAY: 16/20
The gameplay in the level is not bad. There are some features such as the shell where you have to go under it and ends normal with a boss. Most of the level is in water which is good but haveing the uterus boss underwater make the level harder and as if its ‘blocking the exit’. The bonus warp appears to early which limits the amount of coins and doesn’t give the coins an opportunity to space out. Overall, the gameplay is suitable but there is room for improvement.
ENEMIES: 17/20
The enemy placement is OK. There is water which opens up an opportunity for fish. There are crabs aswell and the level ends with a boss. There is not a completely wide range of enemies in the level but some enemies are sometimes overused.
ITEMS: 14/20
Like I said about the bonus warp being placed to early it scrunches the coins up. There is alot of freeze ammo and nothing else so that is a downside. You have overused the carrots. In a full sized level there should be a maximum of 4 or 5 carrots depending on the size. Overall, there are too many carrots and one type of ammo.
OTHERS: 15/20
The level is small but that is all. (Hey that rhymes:))
BONUSES AND STUFF:
Demo sized -1
TOTAL SCORE: 75/100
FINAL COMMENT:
I might be overrating but rules are rules.
First Glance: More Christmas levels! \o/ Christmas levels are having a high turnout this year, which is awesome.
Gameplay: Firstoff, i’m awarding a BONUS 0.5 point to be added after I average just for remaking Battle3. Anyways, the gameplay is almost identical to the battle levels, but Battle2 has powerups. 7.5/10.
Eyecandy/atmosphere: The eyecandy looks better than before, but still nothing too original. The music adds a nice touch. 7.5/10.
Tileset use: These tilesets are really annoying, so good job for dealing with them. 7.5/10.
Tilt: Not as clean as i’d like them to be, but they’re fun. 7.5/10.
(7.5 + 7.5 + 7.5 + 7.5) ÷ 4 + 0.5 = 8. Reccomend highly. They’re awesome.
I must admit this to be one another fantastic episode. I already played both the Invasion, and this one through with an another computer, both as medium-difficulty. ;p
So, the storyline is really well written, which actually is sort of an afterlife of the main jj2 single-player story, but still a good one. The episode also kept me all the time known about what’s happening, and nothing necessary was left out. Hope you know what I do mean. :D
The fact that there are even two endings to choose of, I haven’t ever seen in any other jj2-epis. As the previous episode was mainly focusing on one a single-planet, Deserto, this had a style of Space-adventuring and more freedom to do stuff so I guess I’m preferring this over the previous, it seems. I’ll review that episode also sometime.
The eyecandy is great enough and really gives a realistic feeling for the playing, but still doesn’t confuse. It couldn’t just have been done better, everything seems to fit.
There were plenties of original or underused concepts used for the levels, like the puzzle in the first level, followed shortly by tunnels with rocks coming towards you, shooting cannons and so on. I really agree the few custscenes were a nice add. The difficulty made me die sometimes even now as I couldn’t save every minute, anyway I always wanted to go on with the levels instead of usually just getting too bored to try again with some sp-levels from a save-point. So I was still able to finish it with enough will to try things, but took some time for example to think about; where should I go next?
The amount of ammo and other goodies was suitable enough as well. I really needed some special type of ammo in some cases and especially the Devan-boss, instead of just using blaster or toaster through all levels. Good nothing was overused, and I liked the gem-thingy as well.
I guess I’m giving it a 9 and a half so far. Nothing was really too bad as a reason not giving it a 10, but it seems that this was only an another part of story and might be continuing later. I really wish this to continue. :-)
I didn’t actually find all music fitting the levels too often however…and most music-files were already been used for some other levels. If the continuation of this serie depends of us fans, then I’m here to give this a yet another review and a vote for Evilmike to continue it all. There would have been so much of nice sweet candy to report more about this whole episode in this review, but I just can’t remember it all by now. Hope I didn’t forget anything important I was thinking about while writing this.
Anyway…Great Job, Evilmike!
-SJ
Firstly, great levels before I start the review.
CHRISTMAS LEVELS:
Poor eyecandy in both levels. The levels are a bit easy but that doesn’t matter. The item placement is great and gameplay is great!! Rating: 7.0
CANDY LEVELS:
Better…. Again the levels are easy and eyecandy isn’t great but there isn’t as many errors in these levels as in ‘Christmas’ so that brings your score up. RATING: 7.5
BLOCK LEVELS:
The best out of all of them. There is huge amounts of gameplay in places and these levels are harder. RATING: 7.7
BONUSES/SUBTRACTIONS:
Save point placement in level 1 of ‘Christmas’ -0.2
Platform use in Blocks2 +0.2
Snow use in Candy levels +0.1
Challenges in levels +0.4
Seperate Ammo for levels +0.1
TOTAL: +0.6
AVERAGE RATING: 8.0
FINAL COMMENT: Download this.
yes it is true palette edit wasn’t me !!ı don’t tell you the palette edit is me !!this is my level but it isn’t my palette edit !!
…except the palette edit wasn’t AntiDevan’s.
EDIT²: Oh. I was kinda mislead by the name of the level. It’s a good idea to not name your level the same name of the tileset you used. :P
Anyways, onto the review.
First Glance: Seems like yet another boring SP level. But this isn’t your ordinary SP level, for better or worse.
Gameplay: While you get a good amount of ammo, the number of respawning bees and tuf turts, in combonation with the lack of light, and the foreground eyecandy, make it almost impossible to complete the level. Making levels difficult is good, making them darn near impossible isn’t. 5/10.
Eyecandy/atmosphere: Eyecandy is presentable for this tileset. Almost no tilebugs, but nothing too original or exicting. The music selected is overused and barely fits with the level. 6/10.
Tileset use: This tileset is pretty easy to use, and so I can’t award any real points here. Nothing really original done here. 6/10.
Tilt: This isn’t really a level i’d play if I were board. It’s just too annoying. 4/10.
(5 + 6 + 6 + 4) ÷ 4 = 5.25 ~= 5.3. No download reccomendation.
Advice: Remove the foreground eyecandy, use respawning bees (or similar annoying enemies) less often, and try to be more original.
Dude… you just uploaded the same thing 4 times in a row. There’s a reupload button, you know.
This mix is better than the first one but there are still a lot of things that can be improved.
A- Samples (Still to beepy)
B- Pitching- the base is still not in tune with the melody.
C- The intro of the song is too long and boring.
I give this mix a 4.7.
Firstly, you made a zip file (yay!). Secondly, this is just a small level with about five bosses in it. I like the backround but this is not a test. Please try and make tests that are actually tests in the future.
NOTE: Sticking houndreds of powerups in a level is also bad for your ratings.
I played this, but I won’t give a rating. I don’t know if this really counts as a ‘demo’ since it IS a whole level, but you DO call it a Demo. These aren’t allowed.
Justto tell, there are a lot of carrots. This makes it way too easy. Also, with the shell with the secret entrance, remove that text. It just kinda ruins searching, it just is straight one way. Above the shell are those 2 wood thingies, but you can get stuck in there! Try to fix it ;) If the rest is like this easy, try to make it harder. EYecandy was not bad but not super good either. It was a little bland. Good luck with your pack though!
How dare you use MY fravorit Sonic 3 zone’s name! And I have to say that its a (FB)!!!! >:(

Another level which deserves a review, only this time, its about as overrated as the other level. I think personally this beats quite a lot of levels but lets just see.
Eyecandy :
Rating : 7.5
Comments :
The eyecandy is okay, but bland in areas, and the background would have owned if it was textured.. I like the falling lava.. I only realised what that was when I was playing about on the server and someone pointed it out. The eyecandy is alright and you didn’t use those UGLY balls everyone uses to make it look like a Lava Lamp. Also, the lower area looks nice like a bridge. =D
Gameplay :
Rating : 9.5
Comments :
The level was generally really smooth with almost perfect flow in my opinion. I liked it so much. It is a LOT of fun playing with about 4 – 10 people in this level. I would probably suggest using this for JDC in an XLRS (so much fun) anyway.. ;p The springs all lead to eachother and yeah this is one of those levels with tactic.. Consists of good camperproof areas. Its camperproof if you know how to be a person that can destroy those people and what I said just sucked but rucked ;p
Layout :
Rating : 8.0
Comments :
The layout and the level was quite nice and I think it was quite an amazing level. It all fits together and quite a thick – solid level. Not so platformy and yeah it all fits together. Not really any dead-ends around but yeah.. lets keep going.
Placement :
Rating : 7.5
Comments :
The only part that I didnt like so much. The EB PU was of no use in this level.. Unless I just never found a use but oh well.. ;( And yet all the other PUs were placed excellently and fit well and contribute to my final rating to this level.
Overall :
Final Rating : 8.0
Comments :
Its a nice level and download it or I will slap you =D
Starting Comments
I downloaded the level. Before I played it, I already saw this for a minute or two in a battle server I joined yesterday. I think it’s time to review it.
Gameplay
The gameplay of this level is nothing more than plain brilliant. You can just hold your shift-button and one direction and you will get about everywhere easily. The flow is great. The speed is great! I only had to jump one or two times before I could see the whole level!
_Gameplay = Magnificent! _
Placement
The ammo placement was also very good. Nicely spread around, no useless weapons, some fastfires were placed a bit close to eachother, but the rest was okay. What I didn’t like was the PU placement. The Seeker PU was too easy to get. The ElectroBlaster PU is quite useless, exept for the fact that it gives you ammo. The RF PU was nice, though. Placed under a spring, you stomp it automaticly when you just run up some staircases. That was cool.
_Placement = Good _
Eyecandy
First of all, your use of the background wasn’t quite what I expected. I just though: “What? Only smoke and a black background?” When I looked at the tileset, I saw that you didn’t had much of a chance. You did a good job with it. The layer 3 eyecandy was also good, I like the curvy edges in front of the wall.
_Eyecandy = Quite good _
Music
Music choice wasn’t the best. It fitted in with the level perfectly. It has the agression that your level shows, but still, I would go with another music file, but that’s personal preferrance. It was a bit too agressive, in my opinion ofcourse. Strangely enough, I knew the music, while it wasn’t even in my folder… Strange. Did you rename it or something? =D
_Music = So-so… _
Originality
What can I say? It’s a battle level, I’ve seen this kind of structure before. Still, the springs+wind are quite original, just like the ‘run into your PU’ idea. I quite enjoyed playing this.
_Originality = Good _
Score
If it was an eyecandy contest, I’d give you a 10. Simply because it’s not, I’ll give you an 8.5 on basic score.
_Score = 8.5 _
Bonusses/substractions
I just can’t seem to forget the ‘run into your PU’ thing… That really made my day. =D
_Added Score = +0.5 _
Download Recommendation
Sure, it’s fun to host with about 5 people. Then again, I wouldn’t wanna host this on friday evening or something.
Further comment
I see that you have made time for this within your busy schedule for Jazz X. Still, you got talent. Use it wisely. =D
Sometimes levels actually deserve a review. And sometimes I’m too lazy to do them. I think that this is one of them that deserve a review. The other ratings are FAR too high in my opinion. After playing here a few times and testing flow on a super fun server.. I feel that..
Eyecandy :
Rating : 8.5
Comments :
Eyecandy and atmosphere is really all you concentrated on, as in the environment looks nice, bland in some areas, and a bit bugged in a few other areas. I think the environment looks really good and deserves a few ups. But also, it has a few unrealistic effects.. Like mini battleships right next to it moving at the exact same speed. Anyway.. Try and make it less bugged and focus more on other parts.
Gameplay :
Rating : 6.7
The general fun-factor is pretty nice and high. You always love gliding off battleships into the air or going on an airboard about to explore the outside. A few passages that I kept finding around everywhere. The flow isn’t so good. As you can run into dead-ends quite a bit like THAT. Some tubes are annoying to get into and some actually are SO useful. ;)
Layout :
Rating : 5.5
Sorry, but the layout was awful. It had a few nice parts, but SO many dead ends. I liked the drop part and also the airboard area, its nice and fun to fly about in. But also you need to concentrate on making dead-ends a bit more easy to evade or non existent or even pointful. It has a few nice parts like nailing players in the corner, but its annoying being that player being nailed in a deadend. Anyway not such a good layout.
Placement :
Rating : 6.7
Comments :
Yeah, as I heard before this level would benefit from better ammo placement. When placing ammo, putting it in nice shapes is a wise choice and also, putting PUs in nice places are needed too. There are a few pointless springs about. I think the level is good otherwise.
Overall :
Rating : 6.7
Final Comments :
Well, great job.. Try to focus more on layout and flow, and your levels will rock. Keep trying.
- Raggy ;D
