Whoa, man! Why did I betatest Celestial Wargrounds and then forget it and not review it? A thousand apologies. eats Enigma
Celestial Wargrounds is a small, fast-paced CTF lvl. A nice, smooth game of CTF between two friends can quickly turn into a frantic slugging match if more than 4 additional players join in. This is lvl is so tiny that you won’t stay alone for long. :-)
For those that have a quick trigger-finger and like speedy games and CTF, this is a must download. MUST MUST MUST!
The eyecandy is average. There doesn’t seem to be much stuff in the lvl… just air. It’s ok, I suppose, but it could’ve been much better. I mean, come on! Enigma, you’ve failed to create good eyecandy using an Agama tileset!
The gameplay and weapons placement is by far the best part of the lvl. There are “only” two dead-ends, but they’re so obvious only idiots go there while being chased. Springs, float-ups and suckertubes are nicely placed and you will always be able to not smack yourself into a wall at 180mph. The suckertubes, however, are slightly hard to get into, especially the one leading into the blue base. I would also like the lvl to be more Jazz-friendly (make even larger, open spaces! :-D).
All in all, Celestial Wargrounds is a great, although small and plain, CTF lvl by Enigma. eats Enigma
8.2. Download recommendation.
I can imagine FireSword hacking away at his keyboard in this lvl with his trigger-finger…!
X-Station
Seems like DarkSonic is really warmed up since he uploaded two new levels in one week. The last level, Crystal Clear, was not bad at all but still a bit disappointing. Let’s see if the creator from Fryslan can fulfil his promises this time.
EYECANDY: 2.0 out of 2.5
DarkSonic has used the JJ1 Battleships v2 tileset for this level, which reminds me immediately of BlurredD’s Security Breach v2. The tileset is very well used in this level: thanks to the dark atmosphere and the shifting stars in the background you really think you’ve landed in a abandoned Space Station moving at high speed through the dark corners of the universe. One point of critique at the eye candy: The ship is moving left at high speed but the engine rockets are moving the hip to the right (like in pos 36,32) for the rest I don’t have any problems with the eye candy. Good job.
AMMO: 2.0 out of 2.5
Unlike earlier levels of DarkSonic, this level uses a 2 Powerup strategy, and it features the two best powerups (in my opinion that is) the Seeker and the RF. The smaller ammo is placed in small groups, and only 4 weapons are present in the level: Toaster, Bouncie, Seeker and RF. This can be a bummer for the more specialised weapon user, but for ordinary Jazzers it’s allright.
LEVEL STRUCTURE: 1.5 out of 2.0
Finally, I can see a definite breakthrough in DarkSonic’s level creating style! Since DarkSonic seriously begun with creating levels, he always used a very squared-off level creation style and almost always symmetrical. This is the first level in which he finally breaks with this style, which results in a very good and interesting level structure. It’s funny to walk around (some places are less good then others, I don’t really like the sucker tubes around the bases and the narrow part below the left base) and nice to play in. Nice work.
GAMEPLAY: 2.25 out of 3.0
Thanks to the dark atmosphere combined with good eyecandy, decent placement with not too many sorts of weapons and a nice innovating level structure (not really original but if you look at who made it it’s really original) and a nice music file playing at the background (G-Dreams “Black Space” which I used earlier for one of my own levels) this level has a high fun factor. It has also a good flow, decent spring placement. There’s not really much to say about the gameplay, it’s just good.
RATINGS:
As you can read in my review, I was a little surprised in positive way when I first say this new level of DarkSonic, about a week ago. It’s a huge difference with earlier CTF levels of DarkSonic and it’s also a lot better. I hope the creator goes on with the same level style as this one, since it works out nice. Good work, for the effort you’ll get a 7.7 from me.
Score: 2.0+2.0+1.5+2.25 = 7.75 = 7.7

CTF Release Review 03: Sanctuary.
Introduction: this level is made by CelL, and it’s been a while since he uploaded a single level. Well, if this level is worth downloading/hosting, so it would be a great new level… you will see when you see my review.
Gameplay:
I’ll start off by saying that the spring placement is good, although there are too many in some places… The level’s layout is interesting. The level’s size is fairly average, the level is a bit open. The level isn’t symmetrical, but it has good balance between both sides. It’s easy to reach the bases, and there are several ways to do. When you reach base from the bottom-left, there is One Way that let you go to the first platform under the base.
Eye candy:
Now this is very interesting. There is much eye candy in layer 4. I think the level uses too few green and yellow tiles. The other eye candy is also very good, I can say I like it alot. The tileset was used good except that green and yellow tiles… but they were there at least. The rain was interesting too. The level uses layer 3-8, it’s good enough. I can’t say alot more about it.. so let’s continue with teh placement.
Pickup Placement:
The level uses some interesting groups of ammo, and they’re good placed too. There is Fast Fire near the bases. The level has interesting Power-Up placement. There are 2 Gun8 Power-Ups(one at each side), but you can get to both sides. There is a Toaster Power-Up at the left side, and the Seek PU is at the right side, but is harder to get. The Full Energies are placed where the Gun8 Power-Ups are too. It’s a bit else than the other levels with 2 Full Energies, and I can say I like it.
Others:
I can say this level is original, because of the tileset that is underused, and how the tileset is used… GREAT! The Full Energy placement was an interesting and good idea. It’s also good that most of the eye candy is in layer 4, like WR said. I don’t have major complaints about the level.. maybe there should be something else to replace the 2 Gun8 Power-Ups… but it’s also original.
Host this: Yes, if you are sick of the old levels.
I give this level a Download recommendation.
My final rating: 8.3.
Well, I’m not sure how to reach the super secret, but I don’t mind.
I’ll post a more detailed review later. For now, enjoy the short version:
Good use of tileset. Lots of tiles in the sprite layer, which means low detail users will enjoy the fantastic eyecandy too. Maybe a bit more colour, and more spikes?
Gameplay is the best part, definitely. You can run through the lvl very easily, it’s jazz-friendly (thanks to the betetesters) and there are many paths to the bases.
Weapons placement is great, there is always ammo for you and they are easily accesible.
The blue base is easier to defend than the red base, however.
8.2 fow now, but maybe an 8.5(!) if I manage to find the super secret and test the lvl more extensively.
Yay, a CTF level by Cell for a year now and I’m the first one to review it , cool.
Ok let’s start:
Capture the flag level by Cell of OLC.
The flow in this level is really awesome and you can move around and do many known strategys and you can also make ones to this unic level so this level isn’t boring but a good one.
about the eye candy and background..
There’s eyecandy indeed and in this level you can see it very clearly and I have to say creative eyecandy the background is black whick kinda makes me sad he didn’t used any colour on it or something, but good eyecandy use and it matches the level.
about the gameplay..
Game play is very good the level is open and big to do many things and technics.
I think Cell should have added a bouncers pu. =( but overall good game play.
About the Ammo pleacement..
The seek power-up is placed at the corner and it’s good in my opinion for 3on3s and 2on2s even for 1on1s.
I kinda didn’t love the Toaster Power-up placement he should have done that somewhere down in the middle but it’s fine too.
as I said bouncers power-up should have been add.
Overall..
Nice level one of your best Indeed , I liked zaitox more but this is better for somethings , good job CelL ! Keep making good levels. =)
defenetly gets a Download recommendation from me.

This works with Trigger Crates, too, and generally with a lot of objects in JCS.

CaKeY ~one of the cakest tileset out there.
There is so much tubes in this tileset. They make me DiZzY
Background can be little better.
Overall I like this tileset.
I think it’s good from Xmas level.
Download recommendation for me :D
Could somebody tell me how to do flying things and how to make a JAZZJACKRABBIT IN THE BOX thing?
(A Jazz flies up, and makes your figure sick.) How to do these?
Pretty good… Try to finish it off. To me, I think it’s pretty good. I’ll rate this a 7.5 only if you let me because of the gameplay. Please finish it off. At the end devanjust beats us and wins. That’s not what usaully happens you know. And I like this because I only have JJ2 v1.23 and too many people have TSF now. Where could I get TSF?
I give you a 7 because the level itself was fairly large and took a while to finish. You can’t say that he didn’t spend effort on this level cause good layout, good eyecandy ang good gameplay. There were no tileset errors.
DOWNLOAD RECOMENDATION: YES
Actually, I’m not going to reupload this level because of its low rating
My first level, which was in about year 2001, was worse than this. Exept less tileset errors because I used the easiest Jazz 2 tilest we could make one out of: Tube. :D This level is pretty good for a first timer. My layout was much worse and all that.
GREAT JOB! I can’t understand, why is it at 5 only? I give it a 10!
(Unacceptable rating removal. You receive a warning for this. -Trafton)
What’s this, man? Level???
