AAH! Totally Insane Music Makers strikes

Speed – too slow. In beginning I\‘ve not idea is that Technoir. It\‘s slow like Tuff when 80 yers old. Bad. Although, if you want to listen Technoir more longer, you\‘ll like that.
Special effects – many of them. ONE THING – some are ripped from Worms World Party (or Armageddon), type for Minigun\‘s shot, Air Strike or Bazooka Missile launch. (By the way, this fits to Labratkid\‘s Earthworm World. So you are lucky. And Labratkid, it can be used in JJ2. So :P). There are also echo for voice that says : \“Jackrabbit\”, explosions and these hard-rock thingies.
Overall (Yes it is all) Nice effects, but it\‘s very slow, though.
Rank of Music : Above Average

Great work. This is one of the best conversions. Everything is here, none tile is mising. Animations are great. There are a lot of thing added by the author, I like belts, they are just perfect and they fit very well to scraparap.

At least one person likes my Castle 2 Eclipse tileset to use it on multiple occasions. I don’t even like that tileset enough to use it on multiple occasions.
GAMEPLAY:
The layout is a bit bumpy; getting around should be much easier. This level also seems a little too spaz-biased in places. Looks like someone needs to learn the full potential of slopes. This level looks way too squared off. Granted there are a few slopes in groups, a few more slopes throughtout the rest of the level would be a nice improvement. Better spring placement wouldn’t be too bad either. Once again, many of the springs don’t lead me to a platform—just somewhere around a platform. Once again, some springs need to be added—like a red spring near 46,47 for starters. And are these more narrow passage ways? I would like the freedom to move instead of having to go through a one-tile high passage way. With all that being said, let’s talk about the balance: once again not too bad. The blue base is at the top left with the red base at the bottom left. Calculating all of the factors (such as how easy each base is to attack and defend), the layout is once again not too unbalanced. Somehow this is true—I think I’m cracking under pressure in trying to rate all of these CTF levels fairly.
EYE CANDY:
The eye candy is just slightly better (keyword slightly) than the eye candy in the previous level. I say that mainly because the chains in the foreground look like what they actually should look like, and it doesn’t seem as bland as the last time. With all that being true, the level still uses the same exact tiles relentlessly throughout the entire level (which, by the way, is a bad thing). I also failed to mention this with the last level which is true for this level as well: the textured background in 16-bit looks bad fading to black. I also find this somewhat annoying.
CARROT AND AMMO PLACEMENT:
The full energy carrot is around the same distance to each base. The same could apply for the bouncer and seeker powerups (I feel like I’m repeating myself). As for ammo placement, it isn’t bad but could use some improving.
HOST THIS OFTEN?
Once again my answer is no, but at least there’s some progress being made. This is a 6.5 more or less.
PS: This isn’t related to my review, but I have some questions for Dx: What are you trying to get at with point 4 and 5 in your review? Are you saying it’s good that there are no coins/coin warp, or are you trying to say that’s a bad thing? Either way, I don’t see how that could be a deciding factor in a review for a CTF level or any level for that matter.
I didn’t think you were supposed to rate songs.
Here’s yet another level I feared was going to be released on J2O.
GAMEPLAY:
BR said it was unbalanced. I said it was unbalanced. We both said it was unbalanced, so let’s just leave it at that. Other than that, the flow isn’t bad aside from a few poorly placed springs (like near 13,38 and 58,19), but I’m not fond of the level’s small size. I remember saying this for a few levels that other people made: it’s size could be suitable for duels, but I prefer slightly larger levels so I can have a little more space to move around and strategize. I also think players can score way too quickly in this level.
EYE CANDY:
Here’s another level where the eye candy is different from most Agama Swamp levels. It’s a nice change from the ordinary, but I don’t like it all that much. The eye candy isn’t much worse than usually or anything, but the background looks far too flat for my tastes. Yes, I know it fits the theme, but it still looks a bit dull in places.
CARROT AND AMMO PLACEMENT:
The full energy carrot is closer to the blue base. The bouncer powerup is closer to red base. The toaster powerup is also closer to red base. And the pepper spray powerup is closer to red base. That’s all I have to say about that since we all already know this level isn’t balanced. At least the ammo placement is decent.
HOST THIS OFTEN?
Blame Trafton indeed. Everytime you consider hosting this, you should blame Trafton severely. 7.2 only because a 7.0 felt a little too low.
FYI, this level doesn’t loop to itself. Instead it loops to nothing. I feel like I’m the only one who notices these things.
First of all, this song is too long to use in JJ2. You can’t use really long songs in it (I’m not sure what the limit is, but 8:58 is way too long). I don’t have time to listen to nine minutes of this, but it’s not very good… but I just wanted to tell you that this can’t be used in JJ2.
Well… I don’t have the tileset for one of the levels, so I’ll just review the one where you race to the money room or whatever you called it.
Eyecandy – Very bad
The background isn’t set up properly, and none of the tiles are used correctly. The only promising thing is the fact that the author put a pumpkin (but only half of the pumpkin, so it doesn’t count) in a corner.
Pros – HALF a pumpkin! =O!!!!!!
Cons – (Trafton: Excessively long list of cons that make the page throw errors due to the length of Labratkid’s review removal.)
Gameplay – Very bad
Apart from the fact that you’re running down one tile high tunnels and avoiding hidden belt events that force you into clumps of spikes, the gameplay is surprisingly good. However, since all you are DOING is running down one tile high tunnels and avoiding hidden belt events that force you into clumps of spikes, the gameplay officially sucks. If you touch one of these belt events, which is most definetely not your fault, you are out for the whole rest of the game. Most likely, both players are going to get stuck and they are going to close JJ2 and download Newspaz’s Treetop Hiphop race.
Pros – It’s a challenge.
Cons – (Trafton: Excessively long list of cons that make the page throw errors due to the length of Labratkid’s review removal. Do not do this again. You recieve a subwarning for this.)
Size – Very bad
Well, if you figure out the right path to take, each lap should take you a maximum of twenty seconds. Any laptime higher than that is embarassing.
Pros – Oops. I forgot the list of pros at home. Oh, well.
Cons – (Trafton: Excessively long list of cons that make the page throw errors due to the length of Labratkid’s review removal. I told you not to do this. You recieve a warning for this offense.)
Download reccomendation – Yes, because it’s all ways quite comical to look at levels like this.
Host this often – Maybe if I’m hosting on 1.24, just for laughs.

Yay, another remix, of Technoir, yet again… why always Technoir? I hope to see something else next time, like Tubelectric (brownie points) ;p
Ok, here’s the structure: I’m gonna discuss one aspect of this remix at a time (so I don’t get sidetracked from it all), all good points, and bad. After that a rating and whether or not I’m gonna recommend it, with some advice towards the TIMM team (I hope they read it)
Melody:
Every part, except for one, of the Technoir song is still in there, in the same order. However, a trademark of the TIMM team comes to show: endless repeats of the parts of the song. I don’t mind one repeat or two, but in this remix there are simply too many, to make the song last longer, I assume. Length isn’t everything, the content is what matters most. Endless repeats show “emptiness”, not to mention they can get rather dull, no matter what samples are used (I’ll get to that in a minute). In the last part of the remix, two part are played at once, very bad idea. That aside, there’s a part in there (I’m guessing the replacement for the last part) that’s new to me, but’s just an extention to help the song flow better. And let me tell you one thing: the tempo is a bit too slow for my taste.
Samples:
A lot of different samples are used throughout this remix, and different ones show up as the song progresses in its endless repeats. The samples are well chosen (nice of you to keep that voice like thing in), ranging from explosions, to that “U ready for this? Yeah, thought so” from the JJ2 Theme. The samples really help you get you into a war-like enviroment, but unfortunately the remix’s strength comes from the samples alone.
Note: if you don’t have repeat on, you’ll hear “Brough to by T-I-M-M”, another trademark, one I like more :p
Verdict:
Well, this remix definitely superior to the last one JSZ JAZZ made. It’s just a shame they both suffer from endless repeats of part of the original melody. The samples chosen partially make up for that. What can I say, it’s a mixed bag. Just a 6 for the effort. Sorry :)
- JelZe GoldRabbit =:3
P.S. no I didn’t forget about the tips I promised TIMM. They’re not really tips, they’re just things I wanna hear in a remix, and I’m sure others are with me :)
1. Stick as close to the original song as possible. Don’t just repeat parts of it endlessly, it can make the remix dull, no matter what samples you use. Add parts if you feel needed, just don’t butcher it :p The best remix for that is still the Orbitus remix.
2. Choose samples that fit the theme. This remix scores great in that department, the Orbitus remix too.
3. Keep in that “Brought to you by T-I-M-M” ;p
P.P.S. Only songs that are part of a level pack, or remixes of the music used in JJ games are allowed on the site, and only the remixes can be reviewed. Just making that clear.[This review has been edited by JelZe]
HERE IS MY REVIEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Short review, BTW. I don’t have time for a long one.
Eyecandy – Okay
The tileset is limiting, and doesn’t have much detail, but the author made pretty good use of it. Unfortunately, the eyecandy seems rather overdone, especially the rain.
Gameplay – Good
Fun, enjoyable gameplay. Nice layout, etc. The flow is average.
Ammo placement – Good
Good ammo placement. I really don’t know how some people can write long sections about ammo placement =P
Oveerall – Good
Host this often – No. Maybe once.
Download – Yes.
Another race of DX. After Unamed Race I think that any race can’t beat it. And here’s better one than Unamed Race, the Win or Lose!
Level itself is original with these moving platforms. And, 007 posted that some things are for test, and I agree absolutely. Type for pit. But no pity (?), only one mistake.
MEZ01. Just MEZ01 from probably 1999 or even earlier. But here’s a good example of good-looking MEZ01 level. QoB sucks!
Music is choosen very well. No more writing about this because it is excellent.
One thing before end : races are cool, but 5 laps in the same scenery are boring. Try to solve it. If you can’t, send me a message.
Overall : this level is just necessary for people that are :
– searching good level; – searching MEZ01 level with good eyecandy; – searching something that never would be boring; – just likeing races. So – nice level.
A 8 for you :P
Because it’s just a race with the same blocks I didn’t rate it for a 8.5 :p[This review has been edited by Cooba]
Ok, Time for a review!
Gameplay: The gameplay was good in this level. I found some places where could be springs but ok.
Eyecandy: eyecandy was also good. Lots of objects in layer 4 and in 3 and 5 were some objects too.
Pickup placement: There was good ammo placement here. But there was TNT that’s not needed in a battle you could replace it for another weapon. There were maybe too many carrots. A Full NRG and a +1. 2 +1 carrots or 1 should be good.
Others:
Host this: maybe
download: I think so
It’s a good battle level.
Rating: 7.5
I just had to open my allready too big mouth… O well, makes for more diversity in remakes, right? :p
Ok, we have here yet another Battle remake, this time of battle 2. I won’t complain this time tho, since Dx is obviously trying to make himself loved, and I grant that to anyone. Since this is a remake, I will only focus on the changes made to this level.
Layout:
Roughly prefectly intact. I did notice an area that seemed more open than in Battle 2, that’s probably just me. However: you all may remember that smal drop with red springs on walls. Well, the top left one is missing: there are two springs on the left, and three on the right wall. Smal flaw, it still costs points.
Tileset use and eye candy:
If you’re playing on low detail, you’re missing out. Pretty much everything is focussed on layer 5 to 7. It mainly exists out of leaves, the area with the many springs however has a rather big tree with the springs on the branches. Pretty interesting idea. I just wish there were more things to see eye candy-wise, like a real background (at least layer 7), but just a little bit, otherwise the level would be “clogged”.
Ammo, Food, stuff that’s good.
Everything has been carried over from battle 2, nothing to add here.
Miscellaneous:
With a Jungle tileset like Swamps by Agama, it’s pretty obvious Tubelectric Remix doesn’t fit. Instead Dx used “Water Level” (music of the second beach level), which fits quite nicely, it’s a jungle swamp afterall. The next level is a little badly chosen imo: to battle 3. It would have been more fitting if it was set to itself. Yet again, no big deal, it’s serves its purpose.
Verdict:
Another brave attempt by Dx. It’s not perfect, but it’s no disaster either. As with all remakes of this kind, only recommended for those who love the official battles, but hate the tilesets used and want to see something different. If I have to rate it: a 6 for the effort.
