Time to start a review without rating.
Level 1: I already gave a review on this level. See in First level…Of my DAD rate please!
Level 2:
Gameplay: Not good it goes up and down at some places.
Eyecandy: You tried some but there were many objects in layer 4 and its ugly in the bottom side of the level.
Enemies placement: Too less enemies it`s too easy to complete it in that way
Pickups placement: This was very bad. There were way too amny gems and carrots and almost no ammo.
Others: way too many tile bugs.
Level 3:
Gameplay: still bad. You must run to get up at some places. And you still must go up and down.
Eyecandy: at least a few things, but still bad. No layers only 3,4 and 8 used.
Enemy placement: not good. Too many monkeys there could be more enemy types.
Pickup placement: Still the same. Many carrots and gems. But at least, there was ammo here.
Others: Still the many tile bugs.
now to end the review. No rating because no one does it because you didn`t make it.

Another bad level. Let`s start:
Gameplay: This level has no gameplay it`s very bad it has nothing only some trigger crates.
Eyecandy: What? Eyecandy? No, no eyecandy here. Only some objects that are unnecessary.
Ammo placement: There is no ammo, only in a place where you can`t come.
Enemies: Too MANY! This is not good, its way too many and you didn`t think about where to place them.
Others: many bugs and the boss is not good chosen. It`s the hardest boss and you didn`t placed ammo or power-ups.

JelZe, I made a DW edit with the JJ1 tileset, if you want to take a look at that. Look at Jazz 1: Warzone v3.0 or something of the sort. Anyway, the only thing changed here is the eyecandy, so that’s all I can really rate this on… Well, the eyecandy is rather ugly. You removed the shield, too, and that’s good… overall, I’ll just have to agree with JelZe. I seem to be a bit hesitant rating things that add little features to Battle1. There are some isolated turnips that get in the way when you’re running on flat ground. The warp to the seeker powerup is too low. There is a warp near the warp to the seeker powerup that takes you through a slow sucker tube, displaying DX DC’s logo. It ruins the gameplay, as you can hide in there, and you can accidently go in there. I’ll have to take off points.

I suppose if I must rate, I’ll rate it 5.2.[This review has been edited by labratkid]

A remake?
Well, you shouldn’t make remakes of old levels, because most people hates when doing this.
Alltough, here’s my review

GAMEPLAY/DESIGN:
Gameplay was the same as in the official Battle1 from Cliff Bleszinski.
Only changed thing is RF powerup (not bubble shield) and some text events that says that this remake is remade by the remaker of remakeable things Dx.
PROS: RF pu instead of bubble shield
CONS: remake of old battle1 from Cliff Bleszinski
RATING: N/A

TILESET/TILESET USE:
Dx used the Thermal K tileset, a mixture of Carrotus and Darn Nation. The eyecandy is a bit better than in battle1, but not all that interesting (textured bg/foreground??). The tiles all fit together properly. Nothing more to say I think.
PROS: a bit better eyecandy than in the original battle1
CONS: no textured bg or foreground
RATING: 6.0

WEAPON/ITEM/ENEMY PLACEMENT:
Like in official battle1, only RF powerup instead of bubble shield.
PROS: RF POWERUP
CONS: remake
RATING: N/A

REPLAY/FUN FACTOR/ORIGINALITY:
replay is like in battle1 good, also fun factor but it isn’t made by Dx so no rating. Because it is a remake there isn’t any originality.
PROS: -
CONS: -
RATING: N/A

OVERALL:
Overall ok remake, alltough the eyecandy could be a lot more interesting.
PROS: RF POWERUP
CONS: eyecandy could be better
FINAL RATING: 5.0

Why? Why always Battle 1? Why not battle 2 or 3, or one of the CTf levels? Tell me!!!

Since this is yet another battle 1 remake, I’ll just discuss the changes made to this level.

Tileset:
This version uses Kaven’s Carrotus 1 edit Thermal K1 (I still don’t know how the got the name), which is just Carrotus with a reddish palette, some lava, added wooden platforms and “fire flowers” (no, not the ones you find in the Mario games, but plants with fire in the cantre).

Lay-out:
Perfectly intact, except for the large drop at the left-most area: A tree at the bottom is in the way.

Eye Candy:
Pretty basic, just like the Official Battle 1: some plants, carrots and turnips scattered around, lava walls, and lava as background. It’s a shame the lava bg moves at the same speed at layer 4. Also, the tileset hasn’t been used to it’s full extent, but that’s a personal thing. One thing tho: avoid having to use layers 5 to 7 to add eye candy to layer 4. I personally hold a grudge to that, since some people (including me) play online in low detail (which removes layers 1,2,5,6 and 7). Thankfully, there aren’t any tile bugs in low detail.

Ammo, goodies, stuff that’s good:
Once again, everything in Battle 1 is carried over to this version, except for the bubble shield, which is understandable. Everyone hates shield users (at least in my time :p). Instead of the shield, you’ll find a RF-Powerup (very good alternative)

Music:
What music, it just isn’t there!

Miscellaneous:
One thing I like to comment about is the next level setting: it’s set to the Official Battle 2 level (the Tubelectric one), which is disappointing. I would have liked it if it were set to itself, or at least made a remake of every battle in cycle…

Verdict:
A pretty decent remake of Battle 1. Only recommended for the “Battle 1 remake collectors” (I dunno if there are any) or for those who wanna see a different battle 1.

Well here is my review!!!

Eyecandy:
Sux!!! There are to many tilebugs it is not fitting together. The background does`t use more layers exept layer 8 that`s bad because with the standart tileset it is easy to do.

Enemy placement:
Bad!!! On some places there are to many enemy`s and like Sun fun dude said if you give a mokey 1 tile use Stand monkey!!!

Item placement:
Bad!!! There was enough ammo and stuff but 10 gem rings in one place is really stupid(sorry).

Other:
Bad!!! The levels are not really short but it was really to easy and boring. I don`t no why you call it Hard.

I don`t like it be glad i don`t rate it. Because i would give a $$3.2$$

Level 1: Some sort of introduction. You first have to do basic “training” which consists of jumping onto a big rock to reach higher places and pro trainign which consists of pretty basic shooting at enemies. Then the real level starts. Yay.
The “real” level is hardly playable because of one of the most un1337 backgroudn I ever saw. basically it’s just some tiles placed on layer 7 and 8 and the result is very confusing. You usually can’t see what’s platform and what’s background, and omined with an overload of enemies the result is called “sucks”. Another annoying thing is that you have to wait every time you see a “door”; an anim that disappears every minute.
Level 2 looks a little better, but still the contrast beween the background and layer 4. Again, there are way too much enemies. This level is basically as good as level 2. For some reason I couldn’t find an exit event at the place that said “exit” so I had to use jjnext. Hurray! Maybe level 3 will be the best level of the pack?
Well, yes :P. But it’s still bad. Level 3 is supposed to look like a flying space ship, and to let it look like that the author used a moving foreground layer with what looks like random objects on it. It wasn’t really clear first, but you ahve to jump from platform to platform and if you fall down you are DOOMED by evil SPIKES :(. After trying a few times I got so furstrated I used jjfly because it just is too hard. At one part the only thing to stand on is a one-tile block with a spring on it and you have to destroy some 4* blocks. This is quite hard when the whole level is full of “wind left” events. After that you get sucked by a sucked tube and get stuck. Hurray. I guess that was the end.

The story is pretty basic, the turtles do evil stuff and you have to save them. This is made clear by texts that don’t have any capitals at the beginnign of sentences and also miss proper punctuation.

Next time you make a level pack focus more on eyecandy, make the levels longer and less unfair for the player. Thanks!

Ok, long time ago I reviewed a level. This level is small, but the eyecandy is good for a small level. (Ðx the eyecandy is good). Gameplay was good but two springs were unnecessary. Those warps make it easy to score fast in a CTF game but the size of the level makes it hard too. Ammo and other Pickups were good. No power-ups, but this is a small level and it doesn`t really need a power-up. The Full NRG was at the middle of the level which is good. Ammo placement was good too. Other things: There was only one MP Start. There could be one at each base because if you die its easy to get the flag again. The Base placement: Good placed its the best thing where you can place them in a small level like this.
Overall: An okay level.

Just a note, dx dc. For some reason every review you make says “fast review” or “i suck at rating tilesets” or something. Using capitals at the start of a sentence would be cool too and you don’t have to use a new line for every word.

C’mon people. This is what real platform-jumping games really should be! Dying when falling into a pit. These levels were really impressive. I didn’t find the first 3 levels nowadays so difficult that I even should have cheated in them, but I had to save plenty of times before some hard sections. These 4 levels were difficult but not impossible for me, except I had to cheat in the 4th level’s puzzle. I had no idea on how to solve that if trigger crate is behind two rocks from teh thingy..
Then the last level was a total mess.
There all you need is really good timing. Normal platform jumping was still just a normal challenge in the 5th level, but after the freezing sucker-tube, the challenge got really difficult. I had to get 15 coins from crates. The worst thing was that the coins turned into gems instantly if I didn’t break the crate correctly and didn’t get the coin in time. So, I didn’t continue from the coin-collecting section forwards anymore..I wonder what was at the end. I would actually been able to complete this level also, if the load-thingy wouldn’t run out of memory when saved after 3 times in this level. That sux.

I’m really waiting for full version and which wouldn’t have so hard levels as 5th level of this demo was. I’m not sure what I would give about this demo if I even would be able to rate, but I will think for the rating number of the full version as it comes. Doh, sure I will also play it before I rate, but if I may not cheat in any case.. :o

We’ll see…Good demo![This review has been edited by Superjazz]
