This is a nice level, with good eyecandy and all. It’s very fun to play. Sorry for a short review. Download this.
Waz made a non TSF tileset, now I can review it.
TILES: There are some stone blocks which are meant to be used for ground, bunch of columns for decorations and walls, soem stone crystals which I think are meant for eyecandy, some cool looking gargoyles. There are also backround bricks, poles and destruct blocks, rainbow colored shields, some well made curtains, exit signs, rain, a sweet backround, and some other small stuff. There are the basic tiles (destruct and trigger blocks, hooks and vines, poles, etc), though there arent any sucker tube tiles (or maybe those wooden things are suppose to be sucker tubes), but the tileset basically has everything needed to make a decent level. Did I mention the backround is amazing?
Pros: Has everything needed, amazing backround, cool looking gargoyles etc.
Cons: Could have more tiles.
Rating: 8.2
COLOR: The color here doesn’t have a large variety, but hey, its a castle tileset! There are some nice shades of red mixed with some other colors for the mountains and the bg, and there are a lot of multi-colored shields. The destruct blocks are colored well, and what I think is suppose to be used for the sucker tube (those wooden stuff) look good as well. There is a nice dark purple color used to decorate the curtains, and every other thing is either a brownish color, or grey or black(with some red for gargoyle eyes). Some of you may want more color in this tileset, but how it is right now is good enough for me.
Pros: Coloring is great and makes sense.
Cons: Not as colorful as some other tilesets;to much grey and brown.
Rating:8
ANIMATIONS AND STUFF: The only downfall in this tileset that bothers me the most is the lacking of animations. There are some red eyes that animate in those little gargoyle heads, and of course the destruct blocks are made to animate, and thats all, unless you make your shields animate, which would look strange. Castle tilesets usually don’t have many things you can animate, but Waz could of used his imagination and added some other animations (like blinking gargoyles, or moving bricks or something)
Pros: Has animations
Cons: Could of had a lot more
Rating: 7.5
MASKING: At first you would think you would spot some masking bugs because its hard to mask gargoyles good and stuff, but the masking is actually good. The gargoyles are masked well and you cant get stuck in them or anything. The ground tiles and wall tiles are masked well. The only thing is that I don’t think those gargoyle heads should of been masked (when they arent in the wall).
Pros: Good masking of stuff
Cons: Nothing really special in the masking.
Rating:8
USERFRIENDLY: User friendly enough for me. The tiles are well placed in the tileset (i.e ground tiles are placed with ground tiles, columns placed with other columns etc). Nothing really makes you say “Gee, I wonder where the tile that goes with this tile is”. The destruct blocks could of been placed more closer to each other, but its ok/
Pros: People making levels with this would be able to understand how to use it.
Cons: Nothing really major.
Rating:8.2
OVERALL (not an average): The tileset is solid good and basic. It has all the basic stuff, good coloring and masking etc. It’s not one of those groundbreaking tilesets like Agama’s or some of Disguise’s and Blade’s (sorry if I missed you) but its a solid good tileset. I may consider making a level with this, since it has all the requirements and looks like it will produce a good level. Therefore, I like it.
Pros: Good tileset that is just waiting to be used to make a good level.
Cons: Not one of those “OMG WOW AMAZING” things.
Rating:8.5
OVERALL RATING: 8. A tileset which should be added to any jj2 folder, and gets a download reccomendation from me. Good Job!
Coool! I could say woah for number of tiles in this tileset.
I checked Snorky and _Jaw’s emails and they incredibly resemble each other.
_Jaw’s, quit rating your owns levels.
Foo, this is Paint Shop Pro 6, not paint.
If the tileset don’t work, set the bitmap in the folder: tiles. then you can make the tileset by JCS:
-set…
-add…
-description, typ: hotel speed
-filename, typ: hotel speed.j2t
-tileset, search for hotel
-mask, auto mask
-v by remap tile set palette
-ok
-klick on hotel speed
-build
-wait some seconds
-ok
-now is the tileset clear :D
I“ll never give a PAINT tileset something!
If you will have a very nice tileset,
So use Paint Shop Pro 7 !
Yeah good Tool BUT and nut _’
if i change colors in jazz they wont work up but so what =D
Well, this is almost what I expected…
GAMEPLAY:
Not bad, but not new, interesting, or different. The layout seems more or less average. But it is much better than the previous CTF levels made. There are, however, several things throughout the level which hinder gameplay. The main problem would have to be with several of the one ways, such as near the red springs at 35,24. If you go up where the one way and the normal solid tile meet, you could get stuck. This is often ignored and it is a small bug, but it can become annoying from time to time (I already got stuck at 37,19 twice). It’s easy to fix this by making sure that the one way tile and the regular tile next to it both don’t have the same masking where they meet together (I had to use 3rd layer to make it work out in my Dark Reign example level).
EYE CANDY:
I can’t say it’s above average (I wasn’t expecting anything out of the ordinary since you did make the tileset). The eye candy is good, although somewhat average. I can’t really say much anyway since the tileset doesn’t have the most variety in tiles.
CARROT AND AMMO PLACEMENT:
I might be able to live with the carrot placement, although I question it. There are two full energy carrots near the top (which are probably too close together). But major the problem is, the blue base is closer to its nearest carrot than the red base is. That could be another balance problem. And then there’s the ammo. It seemed to be distributed unevenly in several places. As for powerup placement, it’s not the greatest, but it’s all right.
HOST THIS OFTEN?
It’s decent, but I doubt anyone would. If you really like it, yes. If you really don’t, no. I’m giving this a 7.2 (and yes, that rating is somehow higher than Small CTF Pack‘s rating. I tend to give higher ratings to packs—for the extra effort and all).
It’s a nice tileset. Really nice tileset. I have this game on a floppy disk but, it won’t work.:(
Waz is a lot like me. He makes really solid levels in short amounts of time.
This level uses Waz’s own tileset, and is good all around. Layer 5 and 6 look funny though because they look like they have an Auto-X speed sometimes while you are moving. Kind of weird looking. Download reccomendation, all.
I agree with Ninja Dodo
it’s not that special
it’s all a bit of the same…
Yes I can see how it would be useful….. for TESTS as you said, nothing else. But I see its a good conversion so a 7.5 for a good conversion. By the way Violet will be on your back again about using Epics graphics :D.
I dont have rate it srry it’s realy… its a good tileset, why a review?
Hmmm first of all boost up the graphics!!!!!!! I cant give it an high rating because i dont like it but some people just like it. a 7.0
the link is broken
Everything Violet said goes for my review. Too linear!!!!
Yeah, this set is avarage. Avarage is the middle rating, 5, not 6.7 which is close to 7 (Over avarage). You’r over rating this. Why? Because:
-Tiles are too simpel.
-Bad colours.
-Boring background layers.
-The set is overall “flat”.
-The sucker tubes mask is bad.
-The “space” background is neither blue or black, but brown which is ugly.
Please stop over-rate people’s stuff because it’s their “first”, “second”, and “third”. Heck, do I get extra points if I upload my tileset number 14?
Ok, I wasn’t planning to review this, but after seeing Executor’s review remain there so long and nobody else rating it something more accurate, I gave in.
STORY: Let’s see… Devan is building something with money, so you have to take all the money. Because if Devan does not have the money, he can not use the money. Get it? Get the money.
Pros: Money! Yay!
Cons: A little… simple? Underdeveloped? And why do you fight Devan so early, anyway?
Rating: 4.0
TILESET/TILESET USE: Interestingly, while not anything amazing, the eyecandy is ok. The levels, except for the previously-uploaded bleh CTF level, use Toxic Bunny’s seemingly unknown War Torn tileset. Ok, so the rain looks kind of ugly, and I don’t know why the background mountains Move in the first level, but layer 4 fits together.
Pros: Mostly works.
Cons: Some of the other layer eyecandy kind of sucks, the rainbow brick buildings have too much tile repetition and don’t look very good.
Rating: 6.0
WEAPON/ITEM/ENEMY PLACEMENT: The weapon placement is ok. There are a few weapons laying around, and an RF powerup, but it’s neither overdone nor underdone. Now, remember how the goal of these levels was to collect money? Obviously, how the money is placed should have some effect on the rating. It’s all kind of obviously placed, which could be a good thing when you consider you have to have 25 coins to end the level… in the first level. In the second level, you don’t need the coins, and they don’t Do anything (yay, Executor!). So they’re ok, but not all that good. Enemies weren’t all that interesting, mostly just flying enemies where they’d get in the way. Oh, and the other goodies… decent, though underplayed.
Pros: Coins ok, weapons ok.
Cons: Enemies and other goodies kind of boring, coins not necessary in one level.
Rating: 5.5
ORIGINALITY: By this time, collecting coins is not the most revolutionary gameplay. Still, it’s interesting, though I’d prefer doing so in a less linear fashion. The eyecandy contains nothing paticularly new, nor does what’s left of the gameplay.
Rating: 3.7
DIFFICULTY: These levels are pretty simple, really. Just make sure you go in all the obvious pits in the first level, and you should be fine. And of course, don’t run into the ravens.
Pros: Not too hard.
Cons: Too easy, though.
Rating: 5.0
REPLAY VALUE/FUN FACTOR: Maybe it’s just me, but this pack (and I have played it at least three times to confirm this) did not entertain me enough to want to play it again. The flat design just ends up being rather boring, and the uninspired end boss with the generating Float Lizard doesn’t help.
Pros: Few.
Cons: Not too engrossing.
Rating: 2.7
OVERALL: This is not the wonder pack Executor thinks it is. Sure, it’s ok, but it needs work to be more then that.
Pros: Some things are ok.
Cons: Some things aren’t. I sometimes feel I could just repeat Overall Pros and Cons for most every level I review.
Rating: 4.5
