I think this level is medium.
Make more enemies in it, and no save points, then you have a hard level!

I must say, I never rated the original. But I’ve played it online a couple of times. And I must say, I think this one has a better tileset choice. And besides, it was worked out into details just like the original was. Also I feel that the music fits the level fine. It can’t be a down that the file has been used before, why not use it again when it fits!

Very good for that age.
Here are some things that bother me:
(from Chandie)
1- There’s no eyecandy
2- Bad background and foreground usage
3- Using carrots stuff in the Easter titleset.
But a + point because it has a nice gameplay.

(Not boring) I think a download is recommend here, if you like Easter and Carrotus levels.

Why do you put background stuff on layer 4? I dont have the titleset for the secret level. But it still realy worth a 6. Only thing is the eyecandy, then this level is worth a 8 or higher.

The level was quite good. The tileset use was great, and you have to take in the consideration of what a non-user friendly tileset agama’s egypt tilesets are. The tiles fitted, and the shadows were cool, added more detail. Lots of well placed tiles which made the level more realistic, but it wasnt the best. I felt that some tiles, like the buildings, were underused, and some tiles were a bit overused. Navigation wasnt that good. It was circular and all, but there were several problems. One was that the right side of the level was open, and everyone knows that of you hide in the far right, you’ll become invinsible to shots. This problem could of easily been fixed, and downgraded the rating a bit. Also, near the bottom were the +1 carrot is, it is a complete dead end, which isnt good. There could of been a passage out (other than the one you took in) and i feel the author underlooked this, for you can easily be trapped down there being guarded by another player at the top of the stairway waiting for you to come up so you can take a beating. Some suckerz or warps could of been used instead, or at least make the carrot full energy, because there are powerups in the level which do 2 damage a shot. Bridges could cause divide by zero, but they’re ok. The right side was open at the top, again, and it could of been easily fixed just like the first open side, but it wasnt. The author could pay a bit more attention to these things, so he can get better ratings. The author used vines instead of hooks for better gameplay, and it was easy to get around. The ammo was placed well, but some people may consider it “sparce”. But it was placed in a creative matter, and matched the term “Abit above average” in my eyes. There could of been coins in the level, so you’d have more to explore, but thats my opinion. Springs are nicely placed. I have no idea why the author placed a pole where he did, but he just did. This is because what if you are being chased, and suddenly you run into a pole which takes a few seconds to spin you around, by then your foe will surely catch up and blast you. Anyways, the music fits the level, had an egyptian theme to it. I did find some bugs, but they were tile bugs, so i cant complain to the author i\of this level about that. Instead of a green spring being on the top right near the open space, there could of been a blue spring, which would of fixed the problem completely. Anyways, the cons of this level mainly lie in navigation, and the pros in the tileset use. My overall conclusion is that this is a well structured battle level, a bit on the small side though ^^;;. The author (aka Mr Magoo) overlooked some things which were important and sadly made me change the perfect 8 i was going to give it into a 7.2. I hope that the author keeps making good levels like this, and will learn from my review. That is all.

While I do find this interesting, I have to admit it sucks.
The tileset (apparently) consists of three shades of boring looking bricks (two unsolid), two shades of green, some unmasked poles, a few of those metal stair things from Townhouse, and the rest of it (basically) is logos. I don’t know how many of the logos were actually done by the author, but I’d say it’s a safe bet the cup of Pepsi wasn’t, and I doubt the red and blue circle was either. Michelin might have been.
Overall, unless your teacher wants you to write a long list of companies, there is little reason you should want to see this.

Oh by the way, plz don’t gimme the “well this is your worst tileset so far” stuff.. I know my previous ones were better, but this time I didn’t feel like spending too much time on it, and I think it’s just a simple & fun tileset ;)

The idea was to create a world of logo’s, without any bogus additions (it’s a miracle I added the stairs and bricks, maybe I shouldn’t have done that), just real life LOGOS. And LOTS of it.[This review has been edited by Mat]

Moonblaze is as positive as usual :P

The level is bad indeed. The background is tiled wrong, and the layer 6+7 speeds are also wrong, which causes the background eyecandy to float around the screen while you’re moving. The weapon placement is unbalanced: at some places there’s loads of ammo and on other places there’s a big empty space without any events. The idea of a power-up room is always used by newbies (not meant in a bad way :)and it doesn’t work well. it’s a better idea to spread the powerups trough the whole level instead of having them all in one spot.
Another typical newbie part of the level is the “air battle” part. This is another bad idea, because you can’t get to the other part of the level then and the players will be seperated. Better make one big level with all parts connected to each other.
Both the “rooms” (air battle and er… ground wars :) are too empty. You should put more platforms inside, and use caves and stuff to make better eyecandy. As I already mentioned you should also make the ammo and goodies placement more balanced.

Overall, I saw worser first levels, but the fact this is a first level doesn’t mean it should get a better rating. Take a look at high-rated battle levels and go here for advanced tips and trics. Better luck next time, and don’t feel discouraged now because your first level got a low rating.

World War Too, which was supported to be “World War Two”, is a 256×64 big level using Carrotus.
Don’t let you fool of the size, because only 1/2 of the level is used, while only 1/8 actelly was eyecandy and ground, while the rest is just radomly placed ammo and air boards.
When you enter the level, you can those between 2 battle areas, a huge one to the left where you’r on air board, and a small flat one with 2 rooms called “bunkers”, which isen’t really a bunker, but just a hole down to a room, while a real bunker would be up on the ground and usual holes to shoot out.
Layer 8 is very bad used, it’s not textured, and it’s sticked wrong together, layer 7 and 6 is placed wrong, if you fly up in top of the level, you can see the downcut of the layer 6 and 7 eye candy from carrotus.
The level itself is extreme empty, sinice it’s most likely you only see the strange background in the arena to the left and in the arena to the right the ground is sticked weird together.
Also, there’s 2 plasma shields in each arena, shields are bad. In the right arena it’s very easy to get it, while in the left arena you have to shot you thought a carrot and run a secret way in.

There’s also a toture room you find by go into a warp which is hidden up around left cornor, the toture room uses enemies, which isen’t displayed in multiplayer.
In the toture room itself, there’s a trig crate you have to get.
When destroyed, you have to be spaz for get out again, if you’r Jazz, it’s just too bad.
You’ll find a patch open to the left by the way you entered the toture room, which leads to a secret “weapon storage”, which is the only place in the level with powerups, and there’s lots of them.
Overall, this is an extreme bad level, it’s bad balanched, bad ammo placement, bad eyecandy, bad layer use.
Download not recommed.

Yeah… interesting level. Let me just skip to the Review:

GAMEPLAY:

The layout is probably the best part of this level. The flow is nice, but the way the tubes at the top left and top right were made could be improved. They just seem a little boring and tedious (nothing to do with eye candy). I would suggest at least changing the tubes on the left to be as short as the ones on the right, though it’s not that big a deal. And I don’t know how much of a difference it would make, but I would also suggest changing the blue spring near the Red base so that it doesb’t keep the x-speed. It’s a little annoying to adjust to. I suppose everything else is decent.

EYE CANDY:

I don’t know how to describe it. It’s really really interesting. I liked most of it except for everything that was translucent. Carrotus and translucent just don’t mix too well. And the background is just too weird with the things that almost look like some sort of deformed futuristic buildings… After that, the eye candy is a little above average. But points will be deducted because altogether it doesn’t all that great. This level would probably get a slightly higher rating if it was more traditional and/or if it used a better tileset. If I was going make an original level with this tileset, I would—on second though, I’ll keep my idea and use it for myself (hehehe).

CARROT AND AMMO PLACEMENT:

From what I can tell, three +1 carrots were used: one at the bottom middle, one at the top left, and one at the top right. Full energy carrots would be better IMO, but I guess what you did could work. The ammo placement is… well, unnecessary. It’s like in EvilMike’s SPACE ISLANDS levels, but you didn’t have to put it so close to the ground (at least not all of it). You should have used the traditional method and suspend it in midair, but this way would be a little more convenient (points won’t be added nor taken away for this). Powerup placement is decent (assuming there’s only one) and I have nothing else to say.

HOST THIS OFTEN?

If you like semi-weird stuff and semi-good layouts, then host this a whole lot. 7.0 just because.
