As you all may know, I usually give conversions an 8.7, but this uis different. I never actually noticed that the J1-Candion colors were messed up previous conversion sets, and that tiles were excluded. But Vio had decided to fix those errors and add cool extra stuffness. What is SSF?
I guess when I finally get all the JJ1 sets converted, I will begin making my ultimate level pack, the JJ1 files.
Please re-upload to the original file instead.
I dont find this amusing
There are to much dead ends for me, and its hard to get around in. The eyecandu\y isnt that good and the mountains frankly stink. Im sorry, but I dont liek this battle level
EDIT: here comes bjarni with his big bags of tens, sigh……..[This review has been edited by Blackraptor]
Mistake on your part.. you uploaded the tileset example level instead of your level. (CandEx.j2l, instead of CandX.j2l)
This level was made in less then a day.. I know this, because the tileset was released yesterday evening.
Anyway, it has lots of squarish platforms, the author doesn’t use the ramps, caves, |’‘ or ‘’| tiles, among other things. There are a lot of gingerbread men, but not much layout.
The author attempted to make eyecandy, having some mountain ranges. I think the mountain ranges should have been in layer 4, with candy bars as background eyecandy if anything.
Many places don’t have a spring when needed, and those with springs have lots of them.
Overall, despite my natural bias, this is a hastily (extremely so) constructed level with problems.

YES THANK YOU VIOLET!!!!!!
I have been searching far and wide for a Candion set. Unfortunately, my computer needed reparing and I wasnt able to surf the internet for a few days. I am overjoyed because by far Candion is one of my favourite sets. I dont mind if that that there are a few bad points because a tileset cannot be perfect, especially if its a convewrsion. Usually, conversions dont strike this high, so I think we have found us a talented converter.
Edit: Craccoboy, im not saying your wrong, but rating conversions is healthy for yoy :)
Besides, Violet worked really hard (yeah right) to give us this conversion, and it took a lot of time and effort to make it just like a tileset or level[This review has been edited by Blackraptor]
Edit: For all u who dont believe me on this is a good conversion, more to say, so keep scrolling :P
Candion being one of my favourite planets, is not quite hard to remake. The author included the backround mountains, and the backround. Correct me if Im wrong, but I think it has all the required tiles, such as the candied ground, the lollypops etc. The animations are low, but thats not the authors’ fault, since candion has few animations. There are the usual needed tiles such as destruct scenery poles, eyecandy, ginger bread men ;P. Im sure this converison would come into use (it already did ;P) and i reccoment you to download it or miss out on a great conversion made by the great convertor, Violet CLM, good job.

Big tileset, nice remake, good work, 7.5.

Very nice.
This level is untitled, and it’s also quite good. This is a sort of Christmas-y level using a sort of non-standard navigational system involving coptors. Coptors have always annoyed me, but the way they are used in this level seemed not to detract from gameplay at all. The teams are very well balanced, and every possible path from each base to the other is used during a standard game, which is hard to accomplish. Weapon placement is nothing short of excellent and other than the blaster powerup having a lot of fast fires near it, it’s never overdone. The only thing that ever even slightly annoyed me during gameplay was that the center of the level, which contains a secret powerup reachable only via warp, can confuse people who are playing the level for the first time. The middle part creates a dead end which can be annoying to continuously run into if you haven’t quite got the feel of this level. There were no tileset use bugs that I could find, which isn’t surprising. The mask on this level was excellent (as is the mask on the used tileset). I didn’t get stuck a single time, and in fact rarely got caught on a masked tile. In short, this is an outstanding level that is very balanced between the two teams. The coptor can be a bit cumbersome, but once you get used to it getting around the level is a breeze. A fantastic level, definitely worth a download and the 8.5 I’m giving it.
Ah, yes. “This level is untitled” coinsidently is a title. Anyway, I’m too lazy to think of another good opening sentence, so I’ll just start my review.
Eyecandy: What can I say? I enjoyed it. Mike added at least a few backround layers which consisted of MOVING snow, and mountains ect. The foreground was basicly all of the one-way events, which I liked. I never really used those in my levels. The bottom of the level has some foreground trees, the backround also has stuff like that. Good effect. No eyecandy problems that I saw…or did I? No wait, no.. I didn’t. Gameplay: Good gameplay is nessessary in a CTF level, of course. I didn’t mind it too much, I spotted a float-up event where it was needed. It wasn’t quite effective, though. There are two copters throughout the level, I think one is enough. The copter by the blue base is just awful, it’s too easy to defend when there’s basicly only one way to go unless you’re there at the right time. (I hate copters) The other one was placed nicely, no problems there. The level wasn’t too flat, it had its usual ups and downs, and such. Simple gameplay, really. You can’t go wrong with simple gameplay. Weapons/Placement: I was a bit disappointed with this aspect of the level. Almost everything seemed to be square or rectangular, not much variety of shapes or anything. Though the level is fairly large, I think there was just a tad too much ammo. There needs to be a better balance. As for the powerups, no problems. There are 2-3 powerups in the level, that’s quite enough for CTF. Other than that, not bad. “This level is untitled” is another quality CTF level by EvilMike. Luckily, I don’t rate titles. ;P Overall, I give this level an 8.2 GOOD JOB, M8.I apologize for the color bleaching on the lollipops, but not counting sprite colors and the textured background colors, any one palette can only have 124 (or was it 128.. forgot) colors. Candion originally had three hundred and something, so a few things are slightly bleached, but the lollipop’s about the only thing it’s noticable on. Still, if you think it’s that bad, I can try to make it look somewhat better.
And if the colors seem darker, it’s because that’s the way they were in JJ1..
@Taz
Disguise helped in that without him the whole thing would have taken much longer (using 16-bit, Palsuite and Terralogic). And yes, the colors are changed. None of the previous conversions actually used the JJ1 colors.[This review has been edited by Violet CLM]
Quite a charming little level… I think EvilMike really made this tileset shine; he uses it pretty well… and the music is very, very good too! A trance/rave tune that fits in very well. anyway, this is a good level and the gameplay matches up to the shine.
It’s loaded with weapons, and that might annoy some people, but this is a CTF level, so it’s fine! The ammo is cleverly placed too… the more powerful weapons are located further away from the bases, meaning flag-snatchers have a fair chance. Also, there’s different routes you can take… meaning that chasing a flag-snatcher and deploying guards requires some thought :) A VERY nice touch to this level is that it requires exploration… you need to understand the different routes and figure out how to get into the secret room… very nice concept.
The flash is the thing that’ll impress you first… but underneath the flash is a pretty solid level too! Great old-fashioned fun
FIRST REVIEW. OMG OMG OMG =)
I like this level. Nice and interesting ideas, very fair team balance. I loved the copter trick. That was evil xD
The eyecandy was used very well, however some springs were hard to use. It was very spacious and nice place for the player to control, and not claustrophobic. The level is very fun to play in, all the way from 4-10. Great fun all the way
A well deserved 8.2 :D
It’s not easy to use the Lost World tileset, but I’ve still always liked it. This is a pretty darn good level, though. The flow is fairly good, and weapon placement is as well. Eyecandy is unsurprisingly excellent, and there were few glitches. I got stuck once or twice, but not enough to downgrade this. I didn’t notice many tileset use errors, which of course is likely because the level maker built the tileset, but it’s still nice to see. This is definitely worth a download recommendation. Very nice job.
I don’t think this is worth a rating at all.
This is a fairly good edit of Battle 1 (as good as Battle 1 edits can get, that is, which isn’t very good at all.) Their are a few OK additions, but this isn’t your work. Make a real seperate level and I’m sure it will be quite good. I can’t recommend this or any other Battle 1 edits for download. Make a real new level, and then you may get a very good rating. :)
There are quite a few Candion conversions, and I must say that I am not very fond of any of them. However, this tileset is certainally the best Candion conversion I’ve seen so far. Their is some color bleaching (the lollipops for instance) and the color seems darker, but it’s still a very good effort and definitely worth a download recommendation.
Violet, you really should make some more conversions. The ones I’ve seen so far are excellent, and I think you could do a great conversion pack.
good tileset a lot of handy things i now that i don`t review myself so i give it a 8

COOL!!
Really a great tileset! It has all the stuff a good tileset needs, like poles, vines, hooks, blocks, …
Download now!
This is definitely better than the version of Candion I did many many moons ago. The pallette has been fixed, the masks are much better and it added a lot of cool stuff that should have been there in the first place, such as the mountains in the background, those green blocks, the star and the proper sky.
It’s not perfect, though… certain tiles look “washed out” (such as the lollipops), while the colour seems much darker. I don’t care much for the destructable tiles… I think the destructable tiles from the official JJ2 tilesets work best with any tileset! The poles, new gingerbread faces and warp pipes are an imaginative nice touch, though…
All in all, quite a good effort. I’ve downloaded Violet’s other tileset conversions, and I personally think this isn’t the best of the lot. Still worth a download, and better than what I could have done.
Yet again, another perfect conversion from Violet, this time of Candion, HH95 planet 1
While we’ve seen many conversions of Candion (Dethman (QoB), Astronia (along with Exoticus) and other “automasked” versions) I must say this one’s the best. Not only does it have all the tiles, Violet added (again) Destruct scenery (not that good, looks like it’s made in Paint), vines, etc. I think the only thing missing is the kitchen sink ;)
This is worth an 8. Tell if I’m being too modest :)
