FYI: A rabite is a small creature in the secret of mana seris created by square soft. It is a basic enemy with low attack and about 20 hp. Its a small puff ball, with ears some eyes, and a mouth. No arms or legs, and yet it still hops.

Two CTF levels using Mez0..2, I think, and a Battle using Jungle.
The first CTF is a decent level, though I think one base path is a bit easier then the other. Interesting eyecandy, despite a few tile bugs.
The second CTF is very plain, a bunch of flat platforms. There are some ambient sounds, which as the readme said, was the main attraction of this level.
The last level, the Battle, is ok, but it has too many carrots. Still, it’s interesting.
You probably should download it, even if your only interest is what it says in the text strings.

#1: Tiny, barren level. Consists of like five or so flat platforms without ammo, and a sloped bottom. On the plus side, there’s an interesting textured background.
#2: Don’t have tileset.
#3: Don’t have tileset.
#4: Largish empty room using walk-in-water. The walls and ceilling are sucker tubes sending you in, by the way. No ammo, just a few blue springs.
#5: Interesting place. The floor is warps up to the top of the room. There are a few sucker tubes, and some freeze enemies. Still no ammo, but the layout is better. (I also evidently have an outdated version of the tileset, because some things looked weird)
#6: A largish room with a lot of small 3×2 platforms of varying solidity. There’s also a big octagon platform in the middle. Several walls used, to make this look more interesting, but Still no ammo..
#7: Don’t have tileset.
#8: Pyramid in the middle, with passages through it. It also uses triggers, interesting. Other then that, there are some flattish platforms, and nothing else. Still no ammo, but there is an almost working textured background.
#9: A lot of platforms, and some belts (that always go to the right). And a few warps from one side to the other. It’s kind of hard to navigate as Jazz, and the steps are annoying. Another almost working textured background.
#10: Don’t have tileset.

If you think the ones I can’t access are the best ones, I’ll get the tilesets, but I think I’ve seen enough of them to get the general idea. By the way, invincibility carrots don’t work in multiplayer.[This review has been edited by Violet CLM]

Pier 47 is a decent ctf level using the beach tileset. It’s a definate improvement over bulldog’s previously released level, but has some major problems which could have been easily avoided with some pre-release testing by various people.

Contrary to the previous reviewer’s opinions, I think this level looks pretty good. While the background is rather bland, the decorations on layers 5 through 2 are well-done. The level has it’s own look; you cannot easily confuse it with another CTF level using the beach tileset. The level looks distinct, and that is something creative eyecandy should be used for. This is certainly not an ugly level.

The layout of Pier 47 is good and unique. The “main” area of the level is a rather wide-open top area, which contains the bases: the red base in the top left and the blue base in the top right. Underneath that is a more enclosed section of the level, which contains all of the powerups and most of the ammo. There is one large dead end down there, containing a bouncer powerup. The dead end is not badly placed, and is not useless, but it is very big. This makes getting the bouncer powerup a bit too dangerous, considering that it’s not the most valuable weapon in the level. The rest of the layout is pretty good, and that one bad spot does not ruin it. There is a rather strange empty room in the bottom-left regeon of the level, but it is useful to hide in. It does not detract from the gameplay.

Other powerups are toasters, blaster, and RF. All of them are well-located. Floating ammo is sparse, but there are several barrels and crates scattered throughout the lower-interior. These provide a good supply of ammunition, although they may create framerate-lag after half an hour of playing or so. There is virturally no ammo in the upper area of the level, and there is none near the start positions. This is especially true for the area of the blue base, which is totally devoid of any pickup. Ammo placement in this level needs work, and would be the worst aspect of the level if not for one other thing…

There is no carrot in this level! That just doesn’t work for CTF. An injured player might as well just rejoin to gain health, as that is the only way to do it in this level, aside from death. Flag holders cannot hope to live long, and players can’t hope to get the flag without standing a very high chance of living more than 2 seconds. I am all for intense gameplay, but having four powerups in a level and not even a 1h carrot is just absurd. If this level could be redesigned with a carrot somewhere, the score of this review may improve by a whole point. This is a very significant problem, and when I found out that there was no carrot, I was quite startled.

There are also a few other flaws. There is one area near the bottom-left which is easy to get stuck in, and there is a single player level start near the red base. Single player starts are used by both teams, so sometimes I found myself (a member of the blue team), spawning right at the red base. That is a very unfair advantage. Another “bug” in the level is a semi-invisible platform which can only be accessed by jazz or a skilled spaz player with powered up RFs. This could possibly be an intended platform, but I do not like it.

Moving around in this level is faily easy, but there are a few difficult spots, such as near the red base. It is easy to unintentionally go into a certain tube near there, which is frustrating because it carries you a few seconds away from the red base. A few springs don’t carry you high enough, and it is a little difficult to reach the location of the blaster powerup. In terms of playability and flow, this level is average.

Overall, this is a level that could have been great, but failed to provide a few key things. It has a good layout, looks good, but the rest is just average — and it has no carrot. I’ll give this level a 7.0, which means I think that it is above-average, but not good enough to host in my server or use in JDC.

Keep making levels, because I can see a serious potential in you. Your levels continue to improve with each of your releases, and I look forward to seeing your next one.

Now it runs.(I was able to replace the old system comdlg32.ocx with a version even newer than the one included)

Anyway, this is a great program. It takes a while to get used to, but it’s kewl. You can connect to/host servers in all 5 modes, load any level in jcs/jazz2 instantly, and even connect to telnet for miscellaneous reasons. But my favorite is the MOD player. I never knew what my 100+ music files sounded like unless I found the level that used them. Now I don’t have to worry about it, this prog plays them for me. But the player editor is really not good. You have to enter information from the registry, which may take a while, and you must put your colors in hexidecimal format. That’s kinda inconvient. Still, this is a nice program, download reccomended.

No, this is not supposed to be an actual level. It is merely displaying the system itself. It’s to be used in a survivor, LRS, or XLRS level.

(a rabite is kinda hard to describe, just that it resembles the shape of a rock. Enter it into your search engine)

O’ course, then you could just rename the level to “battle in the city.j2l,” then it will find itself easily enough. No problems there.

I’m not going to rate this level, considering I haven’t played it yet.

Is this supposed to be a survivor?! There’s no eyecandy at all, there’s only one single blue block and everything’s Jazz biased plus there’s nothing new or interesting in this lvl. Don’t download this.

People! People! Let’s not forget that this is a battle level! You ARE NOT supposed to review the tileset!! Gosh…

Prince of Persia is an average lvl with lots of bad things and little good. That’s why I’ll give it an 6. Why, you ask me? It’s got too many dead ends. Very few ammo. Boring eyecandy. Weird gameplay. Too narrow passages and no next lvl setting.

This is a must for maze-lovers but ppl who like a good, decent flowing battle lvl but not want to add this to their lvl list. A 6.

Cheers,

White Rabbit.

I like the use of the tileset but not the lvl itself. It’s got too many deadends, it’s too easy to get lost, there’s too little ammo and the passages are too tight. Everything is too too in this lvl. ;-)

Oh, well. It’s fun though.

A 6.[This review has been edited by White Rabbit]
