It has been ages since I originally reviewed this and after heavy use I can not say that I am as thrilled with this tileset as I initially was. This desert-themed tileset does offer some interesting eyecandy up, but the masking is often lacking. There are parts of this tileset which are ripped, but a lot less than in previous CraccoBoy tilesets, which is definitely a hugely welcomed change in my book. The drawing style is generally good, but not quite excellent. It makes for a good small level, but I doubt it will see much use. Sorry for such a mini-review, but I am in a bit of a hurry.
+ PROS: Probably the best desert tileset available…
- CONS: …because it is probably the only desert tileset available. Still some ripping and the mask is not great.
VERDICT: A score of seven point five and a download recommendation should suffice for now until I have enough time to present a full review. Sorry for the rushing.[This review has been edited by Trafton AT]
Whee! Great idea TK
The layout coulda been better, tho.
You shoulda had a box in the program that showed all the levels, so you didn’t havta click tha browse button, and you coulda selected more than one at a time.
`N0
even better than the first
It’s a short level, ending with a boss.
I bet you got the music from my tileset Another Forest, but it does not work to this one, it’s too relaxing for this, and there’s no wind or anything that could make choose forest sounds. ;9
Next it’s easy to get stuck, somehow, this is also the tileset’s fault, you should use another (Pssst…Another forest), but the fun thing in this is the bees, you have to swim under water for not getting hit my lots of bees.
You gotta jump up for crash a trig and get quick down again.
This is a little fun challenge, so if you don’t have anything to do you should download this level.
Also you should have set the Next Level bar to ending.
Good! But Is there any story. What is the meaning of this episode. How Jazz/Spaz get there?
I’m wondering that.
But good work otherwise.
No eyecandy. Not too much of enemies.
Also, Hard for beginners, not for me.
But it was very fun to play this episode. 8.5
Does it have XP-support?
Graphics: This absolutely an amazing tileset. It’s got snow, rock, snowmen, ice, and more. What’s even better is that you didn’t rely solely on the JJ2 snow effect. I like how you threw in the animated snow in order to give more of a blizzard effect. Overall: 10.
Sound: Though it was JJ2 music, I have to say that it’s one of my most favorite and memorable songs from JJ2. Not only that, but it goes excellently with snow levels. Kind of like a dark Christmas carol, and I like that. Also, this song does no interfere with the sound effects and sets the mood of the level very nicely. Overall: 9
Weapon Placement: Well placed and balanced weapons with even a few secret powerups. There isn’t an overabundance but there isn’t a lack of weapons, and the amount given is excellent for a CTF level, not to mention the different kinds. However, I felt that there should have been more of a reward for dropping down near the blue base than just a carrot, like maybe a hidden weapon crate. Overall: 9
Playability: This level is awesome to play. Not only is it not possible to run a straight line between the bases, but there are some secrets along the way which are worth sidetracking for. Overall: 10
My curve: Dang, this level is good. And even though I thought I got trapped once, there was a One Way there specifically to help me out. Can’t ask for more than that. Overall: 10
Final Score: 9.6, rounded to 9.7 just because I like it a lot.
Actually, I looked in JCS, and there is nothing in the “Music” box. This level is musicless.
Anyway, this is a medium sized CTF level with great eyecandy and so-so design. One side’s pretty much the mirror of the other. (I typed Mirrow at first)
The two bases are at the bottom, you have to run across a flattish platform to get from one to the other, after getting up to it using the blue springs. If this gets boring, there’s a full energy carrot in the middle, and some powerups up at the top reached by sucker tubes.
The eyecandy’s great. I said that already.
Overall, this is an ok level, but it’s kind of hard to navigate. It also has a few tile bugs. But it’s still worth more then what Magic Card gave it.
OMG.
AT FIRST. THERE IS MUSIC. YOU JUST DON’T HAVE IT!!!!!!
THE TILESET DOES NOT BELONG TO THE LEVEL, WHY DO YOU RATE IT, FOOL?
ADMINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow. A JJ2 level based on the first level of Mega Man X. Let’s see if it’s worth playing, shall we?
Graphics: I have always been fond of Mega Man X1, and I still consider it the best in the series. However, here it’s kind of hard to differentiate between foreground and background. Overall: 4Sound: God, this music is so loud that I can’t even hear the sound effects. And on top of that, it’s bad. I’ve heard better versions of this song. Overall: 2
Playability: Excuse me, but were you trying to make this level playable? There’s a warp that sends you to a JAIL of all places, in a single player level, and then you have to succumb to a bee killing you. Then you have to go up a few float up areas on Sting Chameleon until you come to a ledge which you have to jump. It took me several minutes to notice the almost IMPOSSIBLE TO GET TO AS SPAZ trigger crate. I hit that and then go down. Then I find another trigger crate and an RF powerup in an otherwise completely empty area. So I hit the trigger crate and low and behold it shuts the door to the boss. Now, see, that’s just stupid. It’s just like the jail. It prevents you from ending the level. I had to use JJFly and then JJNowall to get to the boss (which is in a VERY small area) and once the boss is defeated you get the message: Wow – You actually took the time to read this. How is that rewarding for playing a level filled with multi-player Hotel level traps? Overall: 1 (be happy. I was going to give you -1).
Weapon Placement: There aren’t as many weapons in this level as there are gold coins, which are used to solve a puzzle, which then almost immediately throws you into the tiny prison cell. Then there’s a box of bouncers which when you shoot, some of the bouncers fall into the area with the RF powerup, so basically you could end the level right then and then and not have to worry about the traps and stuff, which is weird because that makes the level only 10 seconds long, which isn’t much of a secret. Overall: 1.
My curve: Oh god, I honestly don’t know. I hated the prison cell, and having to jump for the trigger crate. I hated trying to get past the first part of the level where everything seems to hurt you, including the spring. I hate how it’s hard to see anything at all in this level, and how there’s a trigger crate which prevents you from getting to the boss level. However, I love Mega Man X so if you can make the rest seem like a modern recreation of MMX1 without having too many stupid traps and puzzles thrown in, it may turn out ok. Overall: 1.
Final Score: 1.7 This level is near impossible to finish. Not because it’s hard, but because at some points it’s just not possible. Clean this up and resubmit it.
Graphics: This tileset is basically the same as the normal Castle tileset except for a few tiles which aren’t even used in the level. However, I like the darkness effect. Overall: 6
Sound: No music in this level. Overall: 1
Playability: This is a really small level. The players start right at the bases, and the bases are right across from each other. There isn’t much skill involved to score in this level. Overall: 6
Weapon Placement: There aren’t a lot of weapons in this level, which is good. Most weapons have powerups, which is good considering this is such a small level and most people will just go left-right-left across the level capturing and scoring. However, most people may not take the time to go out of their way to get the powerups. Overall: 8
My curve: It’s a small level with no music, ok weapon placement, and cool gfx. Overall: 5
Final grade: 5.2 This level has got some pretty cool stuff, but it’s too small and is lacking music.[This review has been edited by Magic Card]
Not enough variation. The tileset is a little… boring, you can construct good levels with it (when looking at the gameplay), but the eyecandy isn’t good enough. I like the textured background though.
let that be a lesson to you. nice try though. >:), good noticing skills electric.
