Hope you’ve had fun. Do leave a thank you note for the bash team. Nimrod set up and hosted the dedicated server, Cooba assembled the level/tileset packs (with community suggestions), Overlord provided “Console” and Monolith and FQuist made sure the bash kept running smoothly.
And of course, thanks to everyone who joined in.
Nimrod posted some statistics about the server connection this weekend:The Bash Server Generated 1.1gb of Traffic (inbound and outbound) 760.5mb was sent from the Server 382.1mb was sent to the Server Of which 973.8mb was UDP Data (Player Movements)

There is no honour in being second.
But…at the risk of accidentally writing a review on the Bash, I would like to make some comments about its various aspects.
Console was usually the first thing people noticed last year but it was a lot more fun to see in action this time, and due to the apparent higher activity of the recent Bash, the end-games turned frantic, with the bot’s countdown adding extra tension. I’ll remember some close games, both battle and CTF, for a while. ;-)
It was nice to play in all those new levels, especially if it turned out you were beating red team 4-0 six or seven minutes into the game. I haven’t reviewed, played, or even downloaded many of the levels in the pack, so I’ll probably end up hosting its levels way outside standard Bash dates. People shouldn’t complain about the quality of the levels. Levels during this time have something that I will term, not without total lack of imagination, the ‘Bash property’: it manages to guarantee that every level is enjoyed at some stage. The effects of this property, have been observed for 8 Bashes now, but you’re welcome to research into its mechanism next year. Whatever you do, please don’t disprove my hypothesis. :-( What we really needed were the music packs, so don’t ignore them.
I think AB8 is the first Bash ever to have been intentionally crashed, ever. And not just once, but repeatedly, on all days except for the last (today). The good news is, of course, that nobody was deterred from continuing.
Overall, I give this year’s a Bash a rating ofAB8 is the second Bash I played from beginning to end. It was great fun. ‘Fun’ and ‘great’ may not be the world’s most positive words, but I really mean it. ;-) Thanks again to everyone involved in assembling, hosting, maintaining, and playing the Bash!

I have nothing to say to people who can’t even get the notation right.
I think this was my fifth bash. JJ2 Battle/CTF Multiplayer don’t really hold enough attraction for me after all this time to hold my attention for hours on end, but it was nice to see some people again, and King of the Hill was an interesting addition to things. Hopefully next year we’ll be celebrating over XBox 360, although of course not exclusively.

Anyway, this bash was IMO more successful than the last one, and I’m sure most people will agree. There were certainly more oldies around, the server was constant and aside from some organisation problems at the beginning, everything went rather smoothly.
(Also, official tilesets + Download Blocker = no.)
It was fun for what I was there for, but I missed most of it because I was too busy this weekend D=

Next time id like less tube electric levels =D

Unknownfile, it wouldnt be so bad if you were the one crashing it. But you had to get Thaspaz to do it for you because you were blocked :)

Interestingly enough, I never noticed the server being crashed intentionally. When I saw it crash, it was due to a tileset missing on the server because it wasn’t in the released pack.
That network traffic also probably includes a lot that was used for the remote administration.

Well, I only attended maybe one hour or so of it in total, so not much of a playing contribution from me this year. But it was nice to see some of the old folks again in that one hour anyway ;-)
