In half an hour or so, someone named Vortale is scheduled to play Jazz Jackrabbit (1) for charity. I don’t know the details but you can read about them here I guess. Vortale guesses the game will take 40 minutes to beat. Shall we watch?
EDIT: Following some DOSBox technical issues, it’s started! “Get hype” as the kiddos say.
EDIT2: Completed (6 episodes only, no CD or Holiday Hare) in 37:40 with about seventy thousand viewers! Well done. I dunno if there are or will be archives of this? Research project for somebody.
EDIT3: Here’s the video!

This is awesome news :).
How did he get past Orbitus Level 2? Did he have version without the game breaking bug?
I swear. That level.

It all went by so fast I couldn’t tell! No, but seriously, JJ1 versions are a topic I’ve never taken the time to figure out. The airboard fly off stuff in Medivo actually worked, which doesn’t happen in 1.3, so maybe it’s a version thing, or maybe he sought out one of our various fixed versions and simply didn’t mention it while playing. He did comment on that one Tubelectric level ending earlier than it does in some other version/s.

I recall that it’s possible to pass the Orbitus 2 rigged part from the CD version. But it’s very hard and tedious, so I doubt it happened in a strict 40 minute timeframe.
I haven’t seen the video (yet), but he could’ve used the 6-episode version instead of the more popular CD version?Violet CLM on 8 Jan 2014 at 22:05
1-6 only, yep. Vortale said something about not playing A-C because they were an add on, and I guess that meant not even playing a copy of JJ1 that included them in the menu.

Yeah, and the 6 episode version is more stable gameplay-wise, as all airboard fly-offs work. And I’ve seen the video now, he passes the Orbitus 2 part in one try. Is Vortale just so comfortable with this game or isn’t that part rigged in the 6 episode version?
