Moon Studios’ new title, Ori and the Blind Forest, has just released to Steam and Xbox One, with beautiful graphics and widespread rave reviews. Besides being the latest 2D rabbit(ish)-based platformer, why should you care? Among the game’s geographically diverse development team are respected J2O users et (gameplay programming) and EvilMike (level design). I haven’t gotten final word yet on whether they managed to sneak in any explicit Jazz references, so now’s the time to buy it and find out for yourself, as well as to see what they’ve been up to over the past four years or so. Oh, and enjoy the game, of course, but by all accounts that’s hardly a difficult thing to do. ;)

Oh wow, really? The game was already on my to-buy list, but that’s bumped it up even higher!
cooba on 11 Mar 2015 at 08:40
To Steam and Xbox One at once? What is this devilry?
Violet CLM on 11 Mar 2015 at 09:30
And Xbox 360 coming later!EDIT: Apparently this is no longer the case.
Slaz on 11 Mar 2015 at 10:02
I’ll be on vacation next week, so I will check this game out thereafter. I hope to see atleast Devres being refered. :P
Toni_ on 11 Mar 2015 at 18:45
This is going to be my first game I bought on internet! I never bought anything with my own money. I don’t mind if I will play this, I just want to support them because they did a lot for JJ2. Respect and good job! Currently I have 5,93e on my account, but I will add 15e soon and buy it! I’d like to donate to developers tho but I don’t know where?
Jelly Jam on 11 Mar 2015 at 19:45
I watched part of the game (walkthrough part 1 :p) and I’m seriously amazed!
This game is only ONE of the games that prove that 2D platforming games are still cool! I mean serously, the graphics, the gameplay, the levels, the music, the story…
This game is just so damn good!
I wish i had the money to buy this. Definetly worth the shot!
Roobar on 11 Mar 2015 at 20:53
Wow! I didn’t knew it had any Jazz Jackrabbit forum members involved in it. That’s neat! I’m playing it right now (it’s released also on Steam) and I love it so far. Much better than Child of Light for instance. But I thought this could involve Noogy because graphically reminded me of Elysian Tale. On the other hand, it’s also comparable to Rayman Origins. I didn’t find anything that reminds me of Jazz Jackrabbit in any way so far. The game is way too different from it.
The only thing I dislike in this game is that there’s no automatic saving system. I very often forget to save and this results in replaying a lot of locations.
Jelly Jam on 11 Mar 2015 at 21:20
Ah, I THOUGHT that it graphicly reminded me of something. Thanks for pointing Dust out.
And boy, I would sure like to get that game…
But yeah, I wil watch the walkthrough till the end to see how awesome the game is, and hopefully i could find some Jazz references, especially on Evilmike’s well know single player episode series!
EvilMike on 11 Mar 2015 at 23:21
On the subject of jj2 references, the game has double jumping, stomping, a way to fall slowly, and a move that’s a bit like a supercharged version of jazz’s uppercut…
et on 11 Mar 2015 at 23:25
plus if you imagine the main character being green instead of white…and added a bandanna…
et on 11 Mar 2015 at 23:26
Fun fact, I had no other way to contact EvilMike years ago except this website :D
TreyLina on 12 Mar 2015 at 00:08
Damn, those high system requirements. Well, it gives me a reason to upgrade to windows 7 64 bit. Yes…I’m still stuck on vista 32-bit.

psst evilmike
devres turns 10 in april
Primpy on 12 Mar 2015 at 06:48
If anyone can buy this game and get it giftable, I’d like to buy it in TF2 items, since I don’t have any funds on Steam.

Ja22 on 12 Mar 2015 at 14:59
This is a fantastic Rayman Legends copy.
Slaz on 12 Mar 2015 at 15:36
It’s no Rayman Legends copy, both are good games and unique in their own way. Still, the graphics style of Ori resembles Legends more than Origins or Dust if you ask me. Still, they’re all unique in their own ways.
And hi EvilMike & et. ;)
ShadowGPW on 12 Mar 2015 at 17:30
Amazing
Primpy on 12 Mar 2015 at 19:39
Ja22, don’t be a jerk about it! The game looks absolutely fantastic!
EvilMike on 12 Mar 2015 at 21:54
moti: we originally were building this game for 360, but moved over to xbox one years ago. The game can’t even run on 360 any more, so porting it would mean a significant downgrade. So, there’s no plan for a port atm. If you don’t have an xbox one I suggest getting the steam version.
F!re on 13 Mar 2015 at 10:40
I am very impressed EvilMike. Very Nice!
Jelly Jam on 13 Mar 2015 at 12:38
F!re: what about et? ;)

F!re on 13 Mar 2015 at 15:02
and et off course lol ;)
Ja22 on 13 Mar 2015 at 15:21
Yes, this game has very good graphics, but it awfully remembers me to Rayman Legends, both in gameplay and graphics.
Primpy on 13 Mar 2015 at 16:58
The only thing I don’t like about this game is the price. It’s ridiculously high! That’s like 1/3 of my mother’s monthly income!
TreyLina on 13 Mar 2015 at 22:13
Have you ever figured for a moment that the economy/wage differences may affect the price? In the UK that’s roughly worth 2.5 hours on a minimum wage job.
In a nutshell: The truth is, the job wages in Romania are awful.
Foly on 13 Mar 2015 at 22:57
Oh my god this looks so incredibly awesome. The graphics are stunishing :)
Toni_ on 13 Mar 2015 at 23:30
‘‘This is a fantastic Rayman Legends copy.’‘
So does that mean LOL is a copy of Dota? And Battlefield is a copy of Call of Duty? And FIFA is a copy of PES etc?
GoldRabbit on 14 Mar 2015 at 06:45
@Primpy
God, are you for real? The game is 20€, so roughly 100 lei, your mother can’t have a 60€ salary (300 lei, in case you can’t do maths) when the minimum wage is 235€ (or 1050 lei).
That being said, the game looks amazing, I’m loving the art style, but sadly I’m going to have to wait until after my finals to be able to play it.
Primpy on 14 Mar 2015 at 07:35
TreyLina, it’s true but let’s compare this game’s price to other well known games such as Garry’s Mod. It’s still higher than lots of games.
GoldRabbit, you don’t know my life. My mother is a babysitter, gets 300 or 400 lei per month. My father in the other hand gets around 2000 lei per month, but every month we end up having not much money. 1300 goes to the bank, some goes to utilities, bills… We usually end up having 300-600 lei to live. To be short, I can’t afford the game and I still think it’s overpriced.
Violet CLM on 14 Mar 2015 at 07:50
Neither EvilMike nor et are likely to be responsible for the price, nor for your family situation.
Primpy on 14 Mar 2015 at 08:29
Sorry, sorry, I just gave some explainations.
GoldRabbit on 14 Mar 2015 at 08:57
I don’t get why you compare the price of the game, which constitues a general truth that applies to everyone, to a special situation (like you acknowledge it is). The game’s price isn’t ridiculously high, it’s just out of your reach at the moment, which, yes, is an unfortunate case that I hope will be solved soon. Stating your opinion as fact is frowned upon. Moreover, 20€ for a game is not much at all by today’s standards, since 90% of games are at least 40€.
Seren on 14 Mar 2015 at 09:20
It’s easier to compare Garry’s Mod to MS Paint than to this game. If you were looking for something similar, why not aforementioned Dust (14€) or Rayman Legends (20€)? The price doesn’t seem so off in valid comparison anymore, does it?
cooba on 14 Mar 2015 at 14:05
To be honest, though, Steam is retarded when it comes to money conversion, or more like non-conversion.
“lol this game is worth 60 monies!”
Primpy on 14 Mar 2015 at 15:05
sigh This is going nonwhere. Alright, if you think it’s decent priced, it is.

Roobar on 15 Mar 2015 at 16:03
The titlescreen music is awesome. The first time I ran the game, I just waited in the menu to listen to it.
djazz on 17 Mar 2015 at 09:26
Saw this post, bought it instantly! Haven’t tried it yet. Some graphical issues in Linux (wine), but will play it in Win7 when I get the time.
And since it’s Unity, I wonder how much work there is to release a Linux beta. I know it probably will never happen (Microsoft) and might not even be possible, but would be awesome nonetheless (like with Dust).
Primpy: I can add you on steam, I’m under the name Mango at the moment, if you’re wondering.
Primpy on 17 Mar 2015 at 17:46
djazz, I accepted your request :D

Very nice project! We should get a Jazz game as good as this! :)
SAMI on 24 Mar 2015 at 15:14
Nice game, I’ll give it a try. Looks promising.

I FINALLY got around to buying and playing it. It’s absolutely beautiful :)
