Greetings Jazzers!
Earlier this year I’ve stumbled upon some new speedrun activity for Jazz2.In my own excitement I searched and shared some of my own strategies to help boost the Jazz2 speedrun community. I found some and managed to share them through e-mail contact. Using these newly introduced skips combined with their own strategies, the game rapidly developed for speedrunning.
A couple of months passed and one the talented and persistent speedrunners, BinaryBlob (also known as Niklash92), recently managed to beat the single player in under 20 minutes! This is insanely fast and I never thought it would be possible that the game could be beaten in this time. It is a true milestone indeed… You should definitely check out his skill and methods with the rabbit.
It would be nice to subscribe to the man to show some love for his dedication.

That is FAST!

Impressive indeed. The TNT climbing in Funky Grooveathon and Electric Boogaloo was especially nice, the buttstomping trick in Bad Pitt was smart too, even if it failed. And even then there were still mistakes here and there, so there’s still room for improvement!

Satisfying to watch until about Hell2 where he doesn’t take the shield with electroblaster. Everything went downhill after that.

Also I don’t want to say anything but the thumbnail clearly shows him with the score of 0066600, which means he’s got a pact with Satan. Sorry guys.

This is great.
I don’t even know why, but the RF jump in jung1 had me laughing like mad.

It’s also noteworthy that as he himself had pointed out, a lot of the tricks he used were originally posted by FawFul himself.
So, congrats Fofel, you made a sub 20 minute run possible!
Primpy on 18 Aug 2015 at 07:13
Ow man I was going to post that :D
It’s a really really good speedrun, the guy who made it is very good at the game.
Ementaler, he didn’t take the shield because he doesn’t want the game to crash. He mentioned that once.
I got really upset when he missed the lizard jump. Very disappointing. Welp, maybe he’ll do it in the next run :)
FawFul on 18 Aug 2015 at 10:51
Primpy is right here, a lot of speedrunners mentioned (dennis lauer, him, vortale) that the shield would crash the game in the base game. I am not sure how exactly but I think it had to do with the level cycling with the shield enabled. An antimeasure would be going inside the box and buttstomp the shield to get a 15 second timer instead of 40. Of course this is arguable because it costs time.
I agree he didn’t put a great time in the last episode, however just note that this isn’t a tool-assisted run, so mistakes can be made. I’ve seen multiple runs where he actually did amazing in the last episode, so it’s probably not his routing :P. The other episodes were really darn fast if you look at the details and compare it to older records.

I didn’t say he should obtain the shield and keep buttstomping for several seconds. Don’t buttstomp and the game won’t crash. He doesn’t have to buttstomp at any point afterwards. He did once but it wasn’t necessary, and a single time is unlikely to crash your game anyway.
FawFul on 18 Aug 2015 at 12:26
From what I’ve heard, the crash is likely to happen in the vanilla game. It’s probably reasonable why all known speedrunners of the game avoid it. Besides, this decision weighs up logically if the speedrunner thinks he won’t need it in his routing strategy.
I like to clear out that buttstomping had nothing to do with the crash, I never said anything about continious buttstomping either, only to buttstomp to take the shield. The reason is that when you have 15 seconds, you can’t reach the end of hell2 before the timer runs out, thus you can keep speedrunning without risking a crash. :)

You’re not listening to me. I’m saying that shields other than the laser one only crash the game if you buttstomp while having one. In particular, when your buttstomp ends by hitting the ground and is not interrupted by an enemy or a crate. Each buttstomp has a fairly small chance of crashing the game, perhaps one in five. Nothing else related only to having a shield crashes the game.

(Plus that post was a response to Primpy, really, that I started writing before you posted yours.)
FawFul on 18 Aug 2015 at 18:18
My mistake sorry, I was slightly confused that this post was directed to my post :P. Also, I never heard of this bug so that’s quite interesting.I didn’t know this started as an explanation for the real shield issue.
Primpy on 18 Aug 2015 at 19:43
So, uhh, which post was the response for me? Sorry.
“I’m saying that shields other than the laser one only crash the game if you buttstomp while having one.”
I think you would do a huge favor to Niklash if you’d tell him that :)

“Niklash” :D
Primpy on 19 Aug 2015 at 06:58
^ Close enough :)
Borgia on 19 Aug 2015 at 13:35
Let’s see how fast he can finish the SP levels if he includes The Secret Files as well :).
