After several months of work, the most advanced fan-made jj2 patch ever has been released. On top of fixing a large number of problematic bugs in Jazz2, it also adds a number of features such as reduced cpu power needed to run the game, increased server control through commands you type in the chat field, chatlogging, and even a couple of extra game modes (though if you really want extra game modes, Carrotade provides a greater number). It also has all functionality of NeoAC built into it.
This is only an early release of the patch: it’s still being worked on, with more features to come. This is just a special christmas present from Grytolle to everyone in the Jazz Jackrabbit community.
Of course, this means there might still be a few minor bugs in it, but overall the patch is stable and you shouldn’t expect serious problems such as crashes. Still, it is reccomended that you back up your jazz2.exe, just in case.
This patch is not compatible with TSF. It is also not compatible with NeoAC (which is built into this patch), or Carrotade. You will need to use your original jazz2.exe for this.

Actually, the released version of carrotade’s readme tells me only teambattle and roast tag are included…

What about Pitfall? That only works with Carrotade on, so if you want to play Pitfall you have to copy the original JJ2 and run Carrotade.
Other than that, this is a great patch.

Hmmm… I haven’t encountered any crashing yet when I loaded Carrotade with Gry’s exe running, which makes me wonder if there is anything that will cause a crash or any other major problem. Right now it seems Carrotade can be loaded and can take advantage of most of the bug fixes from the patch. The 1.23+ commands will be replaced with Carrotade commands—which isn’t all that bad since problems would most likely occur if you could access all the commands as is. I’m sure there are other issues I haven’t thought about yet. Has anyone encountered any serious problems trying to run Carrotade while using Gry’s patch?

Alright then. Obviously users are allowed to experiment like that as much as they want :P

Where’s the newspost for the music patches?
The music patches need a newspost like all the other latest utility uploads!
What if people DON’T check the JCF or downloads section? They’ll never find the music patches! Don’t forget to post quick news bits whenever it updates!

Threads in General Jazz Talk are hardly the most visited part of this domain. Do you not think such a patch for JJ2 is newsworthy? If not, what IS newsworthy? Only the sudden spectacular release of JJ3?
