I’m toying around with a file browser for jj2-compatible music hosted on j2o. Might be useful for people searching for a level background music. Warning: beta!

Beta or not, this rox.
Very Good! :) But what about more musics?
…and some command like “Upload”, “JJ2+music” and etc… in jj2+music must be formats like mp3, ogg, wav and etc.
It’s a browser, nothing more. There’s not enough MP3’s and such to warrant inclusion, and those that are used are often hosted off-site. Besides, I’d rather see people use (often smaller) mods.
If the 1261 mods on J2O aren’t enough for you, ModArchive is an excellent source.
That looks so stylish ;)
download all button plx?
If you pay the bandwidth, sure.
Alternatively, ModArchive filedump torrents
First impression from a few minutes playing with it: neat!
A few suggestions:
Add the ability to sort by title as well as by filename (and possibly browsing by initial letter).
Add links to other sites as well – www.modland.com has a large collection, and has mods that ModArchive doesn’t have.
Include .j2b files.
Bug:
http://mods.jazz2online.com/12358/war.s3m/info/ displays a print_r() output rather than the sample text (seen with other .s3m files as well)
that’s var_dump, and part of the “beta!” part of it ;) I’m still working on parsers for IT and S3M files.
Thanks for reminding me of modland, I’ll see whether I can add a similar link for it.
The titles for MTM modules don’t show up (i.e. the browser thinks they’re titleless).
Fixed, thanks for reporting.
Question 1: is there any way to track particular artists on this such as Alexander brandons various songs.
Question 2: a “Download All” button would be pleasing
Maybe a fileshared torrent for “Download all”. I will keep seeding as soon as I got the files.
I have idea about download all! But can you search other music…I heard good music on modarchive.org, kran3.it by Michiel Van Den Bos…
Hmm, I’ll look into that torrent idea, CrimiClown. It might be a good solution, though I still think simply getting the ModArchive dump would be more efficient (though indeed there /are/ mods on J2O that aren’t on ModArchive or ModLand).
plunK: Once I figure out how to parse the sample texts for S3M and IT files (you know, the stuff you see under “internal texts” here) I’ll try to make it possible to search inside those texts as well. Unfortunately there’s no separate “composer” field in mod files, so that would be the only way to identify them.
Crazy Rabbit: Then go to Modarchive? As I see it, the J2O archive’s advantage is that you know that all files there have been used as background music before, and that you can easily check what kind of levels they have been used for. This allows you to quickly judge whether the file might be suitable for you or not. Uploading tons of new mods to it would not serve any purpose other than becoming a mirror of ModArchive, which is an excellent site by itself.
Of course, another difference is that J2O is the only site serving J2B files ;)
Just noticed another rather big problem: 669 modules are not present, despite the fact that JJ2 can play them and there are several of them present on the site.
Actually, there’s exactly one 669 file on the site (it’s also included in the torrent dump). I’ll put it on the list though, just haven’t gotten around to it yet since it’s kind of low-prioriy – I want to fix S3M and IT parsing first.
Edit: Added 669s (well, only one) and sample text parsing for files of that format.
lol…my MegairSluggion xD…
Oh…Stijn, one more question, if new archive have new music(which is not in J2O) it automatically adds to J2OMods List, or not?
Yes.
