It seems our maybe-too-subtle earlier attempt didn’t quite succeed in getting the point through to people, so I’ll repeat it here more explicitly: Jazz2Online’s 10th birthday is… today! Exactly 10 years ago, the site was opened in response to the then-biggest Jazz Jackrabbit fansites closing, and 10 years later we’re still here, serving you the latest JJ2 (and JJ1) news and downloads.
To commemmorate this event we’ve temporarily reverted the layout of the frontpage to the very first look of our site (also known as J2Ov1). Don’t worry, a real new layout is still in the works – but for now, enjoy this trip down the memory lane. [EDIT: In case you missed it, the J2Ov1 layout can be still seen here.]
I thought it’d be appropriate to give a small summary of just how big the site has grown in these 10 years:
There’s also a small statistics page if you’re interested.
No need to slow down now, so do continue uploading stuff to the site and reviewing it ;) After all, this site wouldn’t exist without you contributing to it, so thank you all for the past 10 years! Do keep an eye on our frontpage, there might be some anniversary features in the coming days…

Happy birthday, J2O!
A lot has happened in the community since the site first opened to the public – from game-based activites such as tournaments and modding to real-life events like international meetings (and even weddings). J2O has been the hub of the community, and without it the past decade would not have been as awesome for many people.
If the next ten years are even a fraction as good, J2O’s staff can take great pride in what they do. Three cheers to all of them, past and present!

Happy birthday J2O!!!
I’ve been a lurker/downloader since the glorious days of Jazz2City, and joined J2O in early 2003. I’ve never been an active contributor to the downloads section in those years, but I can’t imagine all those years going by without JJ2 and J2O. It’s simply the best and most unique game ever made!

Question: Why are there only 4829 user files when the counter at the top of the newest download is like 6285?
And lol….all that stuff is 2GB
Stijn on 9 Aug 2010 at 00:40
plunK: Deleted files… and the relatively small filesize is due to j2l files being generally quite small. It’s still a lot though, all things considered.

Okay the deleted files makes sense. and I was just lol at the size because its impressive, i knew .j2l’s were small. I jsut remember this old site Unrealplayground posted a very similar thing, and it was like 1200TB

Considering that mapping for 3d games uses brushes and adjustable textures and all that, it’s no surprise that UnrealPlayground required more storage, the files were much larger.
Jazz is essentially putting pre-made blocks in a pre-defined grid within only two dimensions, thus smaller file size.
Slaz on 11 Aug 2010 at 09:50
Avarage custom content releases for Unreal Tournament 3 are usually around 50/100MB in size for each map. If those maps include custom packages (thus not packages shipped with the standard maps) and models, those sizes may count up rapidly. So it’s logical that modding communities for those games have lots of TB’s after years of activity.
