Midi’s are becoming the rage it seems. Midi’s everywhere! I guess I’m gonna review this to get it over with… I’m sure nobody will come after me ;p

Melody
Ok, how am I gonna say this? Melody’s complete, but one thing totally ruins the usefullness of this midi: the tempo is irregular. Lemme expand on that: the tempo of the different parts are out of whack: one part speeds up while another slows down. Result: a song that doesn’t know when to speed up or to slow down. Also, some parts come a tick too soon or late. Tip: Next time, pick a higher rate so there’s more room for more notes in a single second.

Instruments
(Just a quick reminder, I’m using the GS wavetable) That’s the only good thing about this song. Having the classic piano playing in the background (kinda like the original Crysilis, and yes, it’s spelled without an “h”) is a great touch, but the rest of them are fairly standard instruments, except for the tuba.

Verdict
Good idea, badly executed. Mainly the irregular tempo makes this song’s rating drop dramatically. I’d recommend if it didn’t have that problem. For now, it’s worth a lousy 5. If the tempo problem’s fixed: a 6.5 to a 7.

[edit: tempo problems are for the most part fixed, but some parts still sound off tempo: they either come a split-second too soon or too late. Their individual tempo are mostly regular tho. Given the tracker tried to fix, I’ll raise the rating a notch. Original rating: 5][This review has been edited by JelZe]

I agree. The tempo’s a bit off, but it’s very good otherwise. It sounds like the original, but it could use some work. Nice first tune, though.

Oh, man sorry, but I don’t like this MIDI conversation…
Samples: Some is good selection, but more is bad. The main melody’s piano instrument is ok, and the string (aka. luvhorn in the original mod) is good. The bass instrument starts at 1:03 is terrible. The drums are ok. The sound at 1:08 is way different than the original one too.
Structure: It’s bad. And if it’s bad it makes the whole song wrong. Sorry, but there are various reasons I say that. Like the main melody. It’s fall out of the rhythm! The string sometimes need to be play longer width.
Overall: If you fix the things I had wroten, it will be a nice midi, but sorry now I can give 4.0 by these reasons. Just don’t give up!

I didn’t listen to the MIDI before releasing it… I thought that it would sound like in Cubasis, but it did not… But now I’ve re-uploaded the file![This review has been edited by Delvour]

MIDI conversation = conversion
Off-Tempo = Needs quantization.

It’s an OKAY attempt, except I think it was a bit of a risky idea of using a complex program such as Cubase, to work with a MIDI like this.
At least you tried, the difficulty of making something like this is practical to a lot of people…

What this MIDI needs is a little better orientation. The notes aren’t synchronized to the metronome. (Needs quantization.) Do I get the feeling you recorded each track on piano?
I reckon another revision with the notes should be in place; at least straighten out the note places. The part where the bass (you put it as toms) is supposed to play, put that down a few octaves and change it to the SYNTH BASS 2 preset.
Oh yeah, see if you can add a pitch bend on the saws, and you got a complete midi.
