There were several reasons as to why Jazz Jackrabbit had a sequel. At the time, Jazz Jackrabbit 1 was out and it was a success. So, everyone just figured making a Jazz Jackrabbit 2 was the best thing to do. Everyone also liked how well Jazz Jackrabbit 1 turned out and had a lot of fun developing Jazz Jackrabbit 1. They thought it was a fun game, and they loved platform games. However, there were obvious limitations in the engine they had at that time, and they had many ideas that they wanted to be able to implement.
That's when they pulled together their collective ideas to make the best platform game that they could make!
The first things that the Jazz Jackrabbit 2 team did were some graphics of the characters to get an idea of how the characters would act, sound, and feel. They also worked on making a level editor for making the levels that are in the game today.
Much of Jazz Jackrabbit 2 was done using ideas that never surfaced in the first game. Little tweaks and improvements that weren't possible in Jazz Jazz Jackrabbit 1 were done and some gameplay ideas that couldn't be fully realized at that time were finally implemented.
