Caption is a property given to tiles in the tile window in JCS. Once set, the tiles with this property are used as graphics in the title window of Jazz Jackrabbit 2 during gameplay. Note that the title bar is only visible when running in windowed (non-DirectDraw) mode.
The property can be set by right-clicking a tile in the tileset window in JCS, selecting Type, then clicking on Caption.
Caption possesses no real function except to make your title window look better. You can use multiple tiles for it, and for example, make a platforum ramping up. The captioned tiles run in order from left to right, based on where they are in the tileset. The tiles closer to the top or left are first in line, with the tiles towards the right or bottom are lower in line. The line repeats once it hits the last tile in the order, looping back to the first one, so it’s possible to have a tile bug up there if the last tile does not ‘fit’ the first tile.
