Filenames are names given to files to organize them. Levels are stored as files on your system. Each level file contains all the information about one level (except episode information).
In Jazz Jackrabbit 2, level filenames are chosen by their author but are terminated by the J2L file extension. Jazz Creation Station associates this extension to itself, so that you can edit a level by simply opening it from your explorer. JCS also uses this extension to open and save Jazz2 Levels.
The game lists all levels found is Jazz2’s directory in the Home Cooked Level list (available on 1.23, TSF and CC99), except files marked hidden themselves or by the game.
