The Jazz Jackrabbit 2 game engine has been used as an engine for several other games. One of the reasons why JJ2’s source code has not been released, to date, is because of legal difficulties concerning the licensing of game engines: by the time community members started asking Epic for the source code, the JJ2 engine had already been licensed for use in 2 other retail games and Epic was anxious to avoid the inevitable problem of companies complaining that they had paid money for the engine when other people could start getting the engine for free, with the source code.
