Jazz Creation Station has a moderate amount of keyboard shortcuts you can use. Here’s a list.
General shortcuts
These actions can also be done by clicking the corresponding item in the menu bar.
- Ctrl+O: Opens up the load file window.
- Ctrl+S: Saves the current level. Something which is wise to do often.
- Ctrl+Z: Undoes your last act. JCS allows for 128 undos.
- F1: Displays main JCS help file with your default browser (JCSHelp/Index.htm).
Copying and pasting tiles
These shortcuts can be used in the Tiles View as well as in the Layer View.
- B: Allows you to copy multiple tiles. After pressing B, you can select a block of tiles to copy. Pressing B again copies the selected blocks to memory.
- , (comma): Copies the tile under cursor to memory, ignoring its event.
- Backspace: Creates a 1-by-1 block containing an empty tile.
- Space: Unselects the current block.
When you paste your block by left-clicking or Enter, it will be put translucent by default (empty blocks, even with an event will be ignored if they’ve been taken from the Layer View). Hold Shift to put an opaque block.
Copying and pasting events
These shortcuts can be used in the Layer View as well as in the Tiles View.
- E: Opens up the event selection window on the tile the mouse cursor is positioned. The event selected is also copied to memory and can be pasted.
