NationStates is a web-based game in which players found and manage their own nations. These are grouped into regions, one of which is ‘‘Carrotus’‘, used mainly by members of the JCF.

Carrotus! Here be rabbits…

This is a relatively new region, and we welcome new members, although there are certain requirements. To join Carrotus, you’ll need to first contact either the delegate, or the founder, on the JCF.

Regional animal: the pie-eating lemur.

Detailed information:

Carrotus is characterized by wide-open plains but several countries’ borders lie within the great “Dopefish Rainforest”, renowned not only for the famous fish it takes its name from, but also for its diverse lemur population. Many nations of Carrotus have had a long-standing tradition concerning all things pie, so it is no surprise that the pie-eating lemur is the regional animal.

While relatively peaceful, many Carrotus nations were formed in the wake of the Third Diamondus-Tube Electric War as part of a UN-chartered “buffer zone”.

Number of members states: 35 (note that this can very well be an outdated number). The current regional peak is 40 countries, with several member nations, including the founder, having died. The Grand Duchy of Surburbian Test Ground was ‘aborted’ by its founder from its very birth, and is not included in the list of current nations.

History of the Carrotus region

Carrotus, obviously named after the planet of Carrotus in the Jazz Jackrabbit world, was founded in January 2003 by FQuist. At first it was popular, but interest soon waned as playing became monotonous, mostly due to a lack of new political issues to handle. As inactive states are removed at Nationstates, Carrotus slowly lost most of its nations.

A revival was attempted in March 2004, and a few new nations joined, although the region of Carrotus soon ended due to the actions of invading UN nations, defined as ‘region griefing’ by the NationStates FAQ, where new, non-native nations join a region and elect a non-native UN delegate, who then ejects all the original inhabitants out of the region.

Here is a survivor’s testament:
‘We had a Carrotus region going with a few jazzers there some years ago, but then some idiots started joining the region, elected their own UN delegate once they outnumbered us and kicked all of the original inhabitants out. Didn’t feel quite the motivation to keep the country going after that.’ ~Enigma

Fortunately, return to Carrotus by community members was made possible when the invaders abandoned the region, leaving it free for anyone to occupy. The revival of Carrotus was started on 21st June, 2006, by n00b, with his nation of Surburbia. Since then, more and more nations have joined, virtually all of them founded by community members. Since a new regional influence system has been implemented by the creator of the game, and because new issues are constantly being added by the game’s moderators, it is hoped that interest in NationStates will last much longer than last time.

The regional influence was pushed up to Moderate, from Low, around the middle of August, 2006. New NationStates-related activites, that were not done previously, have taken place as well, such as roleplaying (including the writing of national newspapers), extensive map drawing, and extensive discussion of the game on the in-game regional message board, the JCF and #jj2.
